Orienteering warm up/down 1:10:00 [2]

Cooldown while waiting to do flag pick-up at 3:30, easy loop around some of the permanent course markers. I find the cooldown concept interesting, and figured I'd give it a try.

Normal "cool down" for soccer season is a couple beers at Thirsty's. That seems to work fine for me.

Orienteering (Flag Pickup) 30:00 [3]

12 PM

Orienteering race (Green Course) 1:13:33 [4] 6.7 km (10:59 / km) +115m 10:07 / km

Icebreaker at Webster Park. Muddy, mid-40s, wind-driven rain at times, and just windy at other times. Still had a large number of starts for as miserable as the weather was. Just goes to show how dedicated the orienteering community is in Rochester.

My run was fine, not particularly fast, but only one bobbled control at 10-11, and didn't cost that much time anyway, maybe 30 seconds or so. I just kept heading N towards a big catching feature, i.e. Lake Road.

Course layout was OK, but too many long running legs. The CS did a great job with conflicting objectives - using Whiting Road and at the same time keeping the total course around 6km. I just don't really like long runs. Put up a decent time and it stuck, apparently there was enough navigation to slow down the real runners out there.
