Running (recovery) 45:00 [3]
Took it easy today, just a loop round the suburbs after getting dropped off by John. Nice time for a run as sun was just setting : )

Wednesday May 28

gymnastics 20:00 [1]
LOL. Not really "training" but i thought i'd but this up anyway as i did my first backflip and handspring since quitting gymnastics 5 yrs ago. Very social but cool!

Tuesday May 27

orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [2]
Up to the top of the park to start the course. Fairly slow
orienteering 50:00 [3]
Secret Training in Belair National Park with Vanessa. Vanessa shadowed for the first 4 controls of a course then we jogged/ walked up to the top fo the parl to do the rest of the course backwards. Really good on the downhill but harder when the sun began to set. A few dilemas post training with finding our bags in the dark, almost missing the train home and then not being able to find a way home for a while after John went to an OASA meeting. Made it eventually...thanks Conrad!

Sunday May 25

orienteering 1:10:00 [3]
Course including 17 mins warm up. Seriously lacking enthusiasm, confidence and form over the last few months. Feel like giving up!

Sunday May 18

cycle 2:00:00 [3] 41 km (2:56 / km)
Commute both ways between Kurralta Park and home. Only got soaked one way : )

n.b. had a slight detour on the way home as rode the wrong way along Anzac Highway for a while before realising and turning back towards home...stupid!
Running long 1:37:00 [3] 16.2 km (5:59 / km)
Got Helen to go on a long run with me!!!
Was planning to follow the bike track down to Glenelg but made a re-route as the thought of running near the beach in stormy weather was not so comforting. Instead i used google maps to make a long-ish loop that went Kurralta Park, Unley/ Hyde Park, Mitcham station, Daw Park, Marion road, South road, Morphet road, then along bike track back to Kurralta Park. Had a few stops along the way but kept a fairly constant pace. Calves a bit tight afterwards from running on footpath but the flat terrain made it a pretty easy run.

Ran with light-weight rain jackets on as the sky looked really threatening when we left but it ended up actually being sunny. Thus, the jackets were definately not appreciated! Stopped at a deli 3/4 of the way through for icy-poles to cool us down and Helen was pretty relieved to have a stretch. Eventually made it home and Helen was really proud of completing the longest run of her life. Good effort Helen!

Saturday May 17

orienteering race (Thornton Park) 45:00 [4] 6 km (7:30 / km)
Come and Try event for juniors at Thorndon Park. Wasn't planning on going but decided to as Helen and I needed to swap shoes after I accidentaly got confused and picked up one of hers on Thursday...oops. Got back the right shoes and did the "long" (really quite short) couse. Was pretty amusing as found many people a little navigationally challenged in the area and none of the gates into the park except one were open which made it even harder. I was amoung a group of people stuck trying to find a way into the park for the last few controls as none of the marked gates were open (an oversight of the Park Ranger's in the morning i think!) Ended up doing an entire loop round the Park, which added a fair bit of distance onto the course. Others were a little more adventurous and climbed over fences...
Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
Ran over to Thorndon Park. Quite interesting as i couldn't see more than a metre infront of me from the pooring rain! Arrived like a drowned rat.

Thursday May 15

Running warm up/down 37:50 [2] 6.2 km (6:06 / km)
Home - Wadmore Park return....
Met Vanessa before work (early) and found my way to Wadmore with only a few navigational complications...map would have been a good idea! Still allowed plenty of time so got there on time : )
Stopped at ripe mandarin tree in a park on way home...mmm
Running intervals 8:00 [4]
Intervals with Vanessa
4 x 200m (easy sprint down-hill starting just after Vanessa. Managed to maintain same distance behind her the whole way)
2 x 400m (slow!!!)

Recovery was studying Tasmanian maps...Good luck for the weekend Vanessa!!!
Running 52:00 [2] 7 km (7:26 / km)
Took it really slow and easy on more of a social run from the MFs. Pretty dark in parts so all stayed together

Wednesday May 14

Running (recovery) 25:00 [2] 4 km (6:15 / km)
slow recovery after work with John. Went to Morialta carpark but fairly dark so decided to venture on. Also very tired after Tuesday but still nice to get out into fresh air : )
Running intervals 13:30 [5]
Woke up early this morning and it was really nice and misty outside so decided to go out for a bit of a run. Ended up feeling really energetic and did the 3km loop Susanne had suggested for a time trial near my house. Did it in three stages (each approx 1km and felt even better than last night. Definately a bit faster on the 1km times.

Probably the best quality to quantity ratio of a training! lol

standing recovery 9:00 [0]

Tuesday May 13

Running tempo 37:14 [4] 7.5 km (4:58 / km)
Decided to join in on the loop as had to wait for John for lift home anyway. Had a good run on the usual loop and did not feel tired surprisingly. Chatted to Helen a lot of the way so more of a social run
time trial race 20:00 [5]
SLOW compared to pb but at least there's somewhere to improve from!

n.b. time includes warm up and time trial

Monday May 12

tennis 55:00 [1]
Hit with girls from my team...good fun : ) and it didn't rain for once!

Sunday May 11

orienteering race 1:37:00 [3] 6.9 km (14:03 / km) +180m 12:26 / km
Started off quite well, knew Vanessa was coming behind me. Spiked 1 and 2 and chose a good route to three, remembering the area a little from Southern Arrows Camp. Then spent a while searching for bare rock on control four and lost time.
Met Riordan at the fourth control... probably not a good idea as both of us lacked motivation. Went around quite slowly, sharing the navigational side. Got really off bearing in the thick areas and it was really frustrating to run in. Got back feeling ok and definately should have raced each other instead of going on a recreational stroll round the course! Ah well, there is always next week.
Note
Course 4 Female (13) 5.2 km 95 m 0 C (
2 Lauren Gillis 89 U_OH SA 54:26
Comparison from last time at Narrenyeri...oh dear!

Saturday May 10

cycle (commute) 1:00:00 [3] 25 km (2:24 / km)
Rode into markets for brunch with Susanne...so busy but good. Sat on a grassy hill near the markets and were soon joined by a large group of Aboriginals...spent the rest of the time listening to them speaking their language...intruiging
Rode back from markets to Susanne's with a stop on the way to Trims
Running warm up/down 22:00 [3]
orienteering race (sprint) 34:12 [3] *** 3 km (11:24 / km)
20c
A real shocker!!
Wasn't really expecting a sprint- like race and legs a bit wobly after riding i suspect. Never really got into it and should have pushed harder...despite a v. hilly course which involved crossing the one very steep valley (creek) at least four times! Interesting route choices though.
C • thats my mum for you ... :) 1
tennis 30:00 [1]
Quick hit of tennis with dad before the upcoming seniors season which i am playing home games for. Pretty convenient as club is just across the road from home and strokes still in pretty good knick after not playing for a while.
n.b. must watch dad's deadly slice-backhand!

Friday May 9

Note
(rest day)
Met Susanne after work. Went shopping for a mother's day gift (bulbs, flower pot, gardening gloves & choccies) and then had an "O" meeting. Made some plans/goals for the rest of 2008...aiming to get back to running speed of City to Bay last year and converting it to orienteering times now that navigation is not too bad.

Cooked really good dinner and went for a short night walk too...eerie!

Thursday May 8

Running tempo 49:21 [3] 9.6 km (5:08 / km)
Run from Mason Fyfes house. Started with STeph, Tiff, John & Helen on the bike track but Helen and I broke off to go a bit faster. Arranged to go down to Cross Road intersection and turn back to meet them but both groups did not recognise Cross Roads and ended up going until we were past Camden Ovals. Stopped at a Bingo centre to ask for directions and grab a drink then ran back to an oval to do some intervals.
Oval was really weird (had two soccer pitches in the middle surrounded by low fences and a horse track around the outside. Not exactly sure of the length but I did 3 x 800-ish intervals with a long recovery. Helen did the last one with me and cheered on the others.lol
Back to the MF's for dinner...yum!
Running intervals 10:00 [5]
3 x 800-ish's
3:21, 3:18, 3:25

Wednesday May 7

Running intervals 10:42 [5]
Finished off loop with 3 x 200 with 400m (v. slow) recovery on uni loop. Didn't mind them too much...200s are over really quickly!

200's around 37/8secs? honestly not really sure as didn't have accurate watch to time with. hopefully faster : )

Tuesday May 6

Running (Continuous) 37:00 [4] 7.5 km (4:56 / km)
North Adelaide Loop with John, Andrew and Helen. Felt pretty fast and very little rest points on the way. Wasn't concentrating 100% on running but still managed an ok pace.

n.b. right knee a little sore from running on downhill parts on the concrete.
