| K and I are trying to get into a new routine of getting up wicked early, training (whether riding or running) for about an hour or something, then getting to work. He's been able to do so two days in a row now, (today being my first day because of business obligations yesterday - like a 2 hour drive to meet with a work colleague in manchester at 8am..ouch.) But this morning wasn't so bad and I think we can keep this up.
Rode for an hour, watching Mythbusters. Time doesn't go by "quite" as fast as when watching soccer, but still abetter than with just an ipod or something. Today is going to be a tough day, actually, since I am out in the field (hiking around the back woods with snowshoes - real surveying Joe!!) and then we have a soccer game tonight at 7. I just hope we play better this week than last...last week was miserable.

| Soccer 50:00 [5] | ||
| Soccer. Another pretty miserable game, though this team we played was a bit less rough, and a little more humble. I think what's happening, is the Dartmouth soccer teams are invading our little recreational league. Last night after our game ended a whole team full of people wearing Dartmouth Soccer jackets rolled in!!!!! WTF. That's just not fair. (And poor character to actually wear your collegiate jackets into such a low-key sort of league play.) THere's a waiting list to get your team into this league so i think they just need to create another league (Collegiate Division) so they can play against themselves and leave us to our fun.
And now that Kristoffer and I are getting into our training now, we're nervous that we're going to get hurt,...you never know! We'll see how it goes next week...

| Weights ((shoveling)) 1:30:00 [1] | ||
| I don't care what anyone says, shoveling this amount of snow is a wonderful upper body workout!
I had to continue shoveling the driveway so I could finally pull my car in the correct way so it wasn't blocking the whole driveway anymore. I ended up shoveling a lot more though, just got in that groove. and it was fun throwing snow at Loki, who kept knocking my piles down with all his jumping.

| Classic Skiing 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| K and I attempted to ski the old railroad bed that is below our house. Getting down to it was fun ( a narrow snowmobile trail that turns quite steep before it dumps out onto the railtrail). It would be a beautiful trail to ski on normally, but due to the massive amounts of snowmobile traffic, it became tiresome. Loki behaved quite well though, and learned quickly that whenever he saw one of those obnoxious machines flying down the trail, to come back to us and move off the trail! Good dog.
I tried to classic ski while K skated...didn't work so well, especially since I didn't have quite the right kick wax on, so my upper body got a good double pole workout!

| Soccer 50:00 [5] | ||
| a miserable defeat against the VT law school, they must have brought in some ringers since last season.
I'm more sore after this game than I was after this entire weekend!
Tuesday Feb 20 | ||
| Running 45:00 [3] | ||
| Run down to the old railroad bed near our house, along that for about 20 mins and back. Going was slow, as the snowmobiles chew everything up and spit it back out as powdery mess to run in. Would make an excellent ski track though, we'll have to check that out sometime soon, nice and wide for skating.
My body has recovered quite well from the weekend, and I don't seem to be fatigued at all. Couldn't run fast this time, but I think that's the conditions, not my legs. Running in this snow was an excellent core workout too, my back was tired from being off-balance the entire time!

| Adventure race race 18:00:00 [3] | ||
| 2007 Swamp Stomp, Bushnell, Florida
Raced with Kristoffer, Chris Edmundson and Bruce Swanson. Started out the race in the lead and held it until we got on the bikes and it got dark. I lost my head and due to poor decision making by myself and our team, we decided to skip a CP after searching for 2 hours, and due to frustration, knowing we were pretty much out of the race (it was a rogaine style event, so if we didn't get a CP, we weren't in contention) ended up dropping out of the race around 2am. I feel pretty terrible about how the race turned out for us, despite doing so well in the beginning. But lots of lessons learned...like race prep. Not to make excuses but we had an enormous stack of odds against us coming into this race. (Poor conditioning -Chris, Kristoffer and I haven't been training much before this race-, shoveling 28" of snow off our driveway (100m long) all day wednesday so we could get to the airport,and finally, our flight being cancelled and having to drive 21 hours to Florida instead, oh, and myself having not looked at a USGS map in nearly a year didn't help things.) All of these things added up and eventually, I think, did us in. Our next race is coming up and I hope to be much better prepared. Congratulations Joe! Good race.

| Running (snowshoe race) 45:00 [5] 4.0 mi (11:14 / mi) | ||
| 4 mile snowshoe race in Sandwich. I borrowed a pair of Dion shoes that were lighter and narrower than my tubbs, seemed to work pretty well, but I started out too fast and died on the hills. Good workout though! My hip-flexors are beat! | ||
| Classic Skiing 1:30:00 [1] | ||
| Classic ski with my parents down to the pond near out house, across and up to Beede Falls in Sandwich Notch, then back, just as it got really dark...true Olafsen style. | ||
Sunday Feb 4 | ||
| Hiking 40:00 [3] | ||
| Approach to ice climbing area. twice. This was more of a workout than the climbing, though I'm feeling the arm workout of the climb more today (monday).
Went climbing in Kinsman Notch w/ K and Chris. two ascents (top rope) of a grade 4-.
Saturday Feb 3 | ||
| Skate Skiing 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| Bretton Woods w/ Kristoffer and Chris. Teaching Chris skating technique, so the workout wasn't exactly lung busting, but my legs were certainly fatigued, just from practicing my own technique as well as balancing more, rather than just skiing fast. | ||
| Spinning bike 30:00 [3] | ||
| Transitioning workout with K and chris. The idea was to practice transitions, thinking about what we had to do before getting into a TA, changing clothes/shoes/food/drink/maps etc. quickly and efficiently.
So the workout went like this: Ride for 15 mins/transition/run around the block (about 15mins, proabaly less - we never ended up timing it)/transition/ride for 15/transistion/run around the block. After skiing chris was pretty beat and all of our knees weren't doign so well, so we called it good after that but continued to run through some more quick transitions, just staying in the basement the whole time. Loki though we were silly, I'm sure.

Thursday Feb 1 | ||
| Running 25:00 [3] | ||
| Run with Loki around the block and down to Wood Pond, out on the ice and back. Only needed the headlamp for the little bit of trail section down to the pond, otherwise, it was light as day out, and that wasn't even "FULL" moon. I realize we need to work with Loki on runnign on a leash though...I got a good arm strength workout, pulling him back constantly. | ||
