| Orienteering race (West Point Day 1) 1:24:02 [4] 7.55 km (11:08 / km) +360m 8:59 / km | ||
| A rainy wet and real foggy day. Nice to run in except for the inability to see flags and people (though not seeing people probably helped my concentration a bit).
Felt quite hesitant on most controls, missing them by a few meters. Mostly, I felt really lucky. like there was someone sitting on my shoulder telling me to stop running and start looking for a flag, or telling me to change the direction I was running in a bit. It was strange, this happened on nearly every control. I would go bombing towards a control, something would tell me to stop, so I would and I'd look around and lo and behold, there's a flag! Whoa. A lot of my decent result was due to this luck. I don't like it, I shoul dhave been concentrating more on the map rather than thinking I'd just luck out and run right into it. On the other hand, I felt really strong physically, could climb well and felt confident on the rough ground.

| ahr:174 max:184 slept:6.0 shoes: Nike Goretex | ||
| Pouring rain and not very much sleep all weekend didn't help getting up to drive to this race, but we did it anyway.
It was a 14mile trail race in Wolfboro, NH and muddy was the word of the day. All on trails -singletrack and double track and dirt roads. All the trails were slick mud or running water after all the rain the past few days but it was a lot of fun! I won the female division by a few seconds to Kelsy Allen (Do you remember her Sandra? She was on the UNH ski team with me). We ran most of the way together and then I outsprinted her (as much as I could sprint with 5 extra pounds of sand, mud and water in my shoes!) at the end. Surprisingly, my feet held up fairly well, no blisters anyway, but the pounding for 14 miles (the longest I've ever raced before) I thought I fractured the bones in my foot! But they feel fine now. However, my right knee hurts a bit and I was hurting to bend it all evening and this morning, but it'll probably loosen up today (monday).

| Pouring rain all day and just miserably chilly and wet outside. We ended up packing up Kristoffer's place so it's all ready to move on Monday and Tuesday! | ||

| Just really didn't feel like going training. Not at all.
We made tacos instead. | ||

| Running 50:00 [4] | ||
| ahr:160 max:181 shoes: Nike Goretex | ||
| Felt really lethargic all afternoon and reallydidn't feel like going for a run or doing anything, for that matter. But Kristoffer talked me into it, well, not really, he just said we're going, and that was it.
I'm glad we did, though, even though I felt like I was incredibly out of shape the entire run! We went on these logging roads up near Lebanon and they were all really muddy and soft from thawing out. It was really tough running, but towards the end I was getting my form back, even though my legs felt like they had zero power to get up the soft hills. I hope I start feeling better soon, this is really frustrating.

| Easy run starting at my gym and going down the road, exploring a bunch of 4 wheeler trails, some that go straight up this huge steep hill. It actually looks like fun, ripping around the woods, up and down these steep sandy trails....anyway....I felt slow running, still awkward and tired. But it was just an easy run...recovery after yesterdays race. | ||
| Core strength 15:00 [1] | ||
| Swimming 35:00 [3] 1.65 km (21:13 / km) | ||
| 500m warmup -tiring- It definitely takes me a while to warm up and get the rythym down.
Various drills for form 6x125m supposed to be race pace, but I ended up doing them faster that I would be swimming for 1.2k! 150m cooldown-felt good, I like the cooldowns, rythym is there and it feels good to glide through the water at such an easy pace.

| A beautiful day at UNH!
Felt strong and concentrated after the first few controls (warmup) and was doing alright until I saw Jeff Saeger who threw my concentration all off as i was trying to both lose him and not follow him. It was hard though, there being no route choices involved. Got away eventually, though I didn't know whether I was ahead or behind (I had a backasswards and slow route to #16 via 21). But I made a concious effort to not think about him and ended up finishing the course strong.

| Running 41:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:12 / mi) | ||
| ahr:157 max:177 slept:7.0 shoes: Nike Goretex | ||
| This was supposed to be a 40' run with some fartlek intervals (3x4') but after the first one we both felt like crap and decided to just run it out rather than doing the other 2 intervals. The whole run went pretty poorly. In general, I was feeling really out of shape, even though I know I'm not. (My HR was super high and it took a real long time to recover from the one interval.-I also was having a lot of trouble breathing, I could barely talk while running!) Also, my running form felt retarded, like I hadn't run in over a year. AND it kind of felt like I had an inch of fat over all my body that was jiggling around making my form all sloppy. eww, i know!
In conclusion, I think we both caught some illness on the flight back from Cali but that it's not showing to its potential due to our powerful immune systems, even though it's making us lethargic and sloppy. Hope to kick it this weekend...we'll see.

| Blisters still hurt from yesterday a bit and my quads were real sore from the hills. Not complaining, just telling it like it is.
Went to look at renting a house which, though in a great location, is too big, too expensive and too run down. Oh well, we'll keep looking.

| New Trails!!!! I found a trail map online for these woods that we've run by on previous road runs. The trails were well kept and went up to this nice fire tower that overlooked concord and the surrounding towns.
It was evening and I raced the sun back down to the car.

| Event: Billygoat Run | ||
| Note | ||
| (rest day) | ||
|
"The Ultimate Rest Day" Was thinking of going to the Billygoat, but am certainly glad I didn't! The blisters I already had on my feet would no doubt have given me tons of trouble and pain and after "sleeping" for only a few hours on the plane flight back from LA, it wouldn't have been pretty. Instead, after arriving in Concord around 7:45am, we went directly to bed, slept for about 5.5hrs, woke up, made and ate pancakes, went back to bed, slept for another 2.5-3 hrs, woke up and decided to go to the movies (Sin City-interesting...) came back home, went to bed and fell right back asleep, no problem! I guess we needed it.

| Big Blue Off-Road Triathlon, California
A great race. I know I didn't push it as hard as I could have becuase the bike and run coming out of the TA's felt fine. (I should have been hurting). I didn't wear my HR monitor but I don't think my HR was ever all that high. So I ended up 1st in my age category and 3rd overall in the females and 50th overall out of a field of 86. 19 of which were females.

| Swim:(1.2k w/ wind whipped water) 19:14
The swim was horrendous. The wind out there was blowing hard and I think I swallowed half of the lake. Thankfully it wasn't in the ocean! The water was cold, too, 55F. Enough to give you an icecream headache. Thanks to Michelle for letting me borrow her wetsuit! Bike: (18mi w/ tons of climb!) 1.53:20 Then a quick TA to the bike. Course desc. was 2 loops of ~9 mi with total 1000m climb. Hm, more like 16mi with 5000m climb! Technical, too! Lots of ruts and steep drainages that if you were to fall off the trail, you'd be screwed! Run: (6mi relatively flat) 39:35 Finally, to the run...Another quick TA, I felt pretty good, considering all the climb, but wary of what the run course might consist of! Ended up not being very tough at all, though, fairly flat with patches of sand, a few river crossings and some sidehilling (which, without socks in my shoes, gave me some wicked blisters!). I felt like I could have moved faster, but there weren't any runners ahead to me to chase. If only I knew there was the second place chick only a few mintues ahead of me!!
Friday Apr 8 | ||
| Running 21:00 [4] | ||
| Night run in Boston. Got a new pair of shoes(Saucony's race flat) for the triathlon and thought I'd test 'em out. Kristoffer, Chris and I went out around 11:30pm after a big dinner of burritos. Oof, not a good idea. It was a quick run, thankfully, otherwise I probably would have lost my dinner. The shoes ended up not working out. Too small. Oh, well, worth a try I guess. | ||
Wednesday Apr 6 | ||
| Swimming 35:00 [3] 1.5 km (23:20 / km) | ||
| Swimming and some drills. 3x200m steady state. It's weird though, by the last one I'm feeling good and smooth in the water and feel like I could do a bunch more. But the first one is the toughest! | ||

| slept:2.5 (rest day) | ||
| After driving all night back from Ohio, arriving at my workplace at 5:45am. I decided to sleep for a few hours on an air mattress in a back room until 8 rather than wasting the time driving home.
No training today. Left work early and took a few hour nap. felt soooooo good!

| Classic course.
Messed up #4 a bit, hesistated and searched around. Slow to #5 where Katarina Smith caught me. Then we caught up with Sam and the three of us were within sight dist most of the rest of the way, catching up with the earlier Red starters. Finished in a big pack, mostly within a few minutes. Legs and head were tired after yesterday. Having trouble concentrating and running smoothly. Still lots of mud and slick slopes!

| Running warm up/down 30:00 [2] | ||
| A nice 3k run to the start, but got there WAY too early and ended up running up and down up and down up and down the road just to stay warm, but certainly not dry! | ||
| Orienteering race 36:45 [4] **** 4.4 km (8:21 / km) +220m 6:41 / km | ||
| ahr:173 max:183 | ||
| Short course. Pouring rain, mud mud mud, wind blowing everything sideways. Felt good and strong through the whole course and was able to run through most everything. Even ran (slowly) up the slick hills, just to keep moving. Spiked just about every control, though perhaps some iffy route choices to some. | ||

| Pig Sprint
First sprint since....Switzerland?? I don't even remember. I'm certainly in no shape for sprinting, I don't even have a kick at the end of the longer races these days! But it went well regardless. Took me a bit to get into the map (as usual for me) and I made a .30sec mistake on #3, going down the wrong spur/ridge thing. Other than that, it was fairly clean. Iffy route choice on 9 I think it was, (I don't even remember, my mind was a little foggy by that point.)
