| Adventure race race (Planet Adventure 24) 23:54:00 [4] | ||
| Just outside Tell City, Indiana in Hoosier National Forest, where they actually allow a group of more than 10 people to travel together through the forest.. (the White Mtns, or perhaps it's the AMC, doesn't allow such ridiculousness, which is complete BS.) But anyway, the forest out there was quite nice, ridge/valley type, with large rock features here and there adding interest. Paddling was on the Ohio River, which was by far the largest river I've ever paddled on. (upriver too.)
Navigation on my part, however, was non-existant. I actually had 3 instances of 180deg errors throughout the race and lost probably at least 3 hours total with me just being an idiot, distracted by other teams, tired, pressure from my own team, lack of self-confidence, a mis-placed control, etc. etc. A very discouraging race on my part, plus my legs wouldn't want to move up hills on the biking sections, just had no power. Overall, a waste of a weekend, 3days of missed work and food, money and effort to drive out, race and drive back. BLAH. (I will give Planet Adventure credit, though, despite the mis-placed CP, a definite lack of volunteers, and not so hot prizes, they had a great course, cool ropes section, nice paddle (thankfully they took out the second night-paddle which wouldhave led to more hypothermia by all on our team) and wonderful route choices.)

| Orienteering race (WCOC Du-O) 3:05:00 [4] | ||
| At the last minute Kristoffer and I decided to go down to CT to race Joe's Du-O and i'm very glad we did. We had a lot of fun, and it felt so good to be running around in the woods with a real o-map again!
I started on the run and ended up making a pretty good route choice to the first few CP's even though I had no idea where I was going when we started. I crushed the run section and made it back to the TA before anyone else. Then onto the bike section where I ended up pushing my bike more than riding it i think. Quite a few hike-a-bike sections later and I came into the finish, just 2 minutes ahead of Kristoffer and 1st overall! Great course Joe! We'll be sure to plan on racing the next two, though you better bring more competition next time! ;o) Thanks again for watching the rascal dog (aka Loki) and for letting us crash at your place.

| Run/Hike 58:00 [3] | ||
| Run up the north trail on Black Mtn. Beautiful weather, probably the longest views we've had in a long time. Could see into Canada and probabaly even NY if we knew what we were looking at! And the Whites are nearly snowfree! Soon we'll do the Franconia Ridge...that's a good run. | ||
