| "easy" run with Loki. Mostly to see if my quad and hamstring were operational, and also just to get out and do something before this weekend suddenly rolled around.
Ran a small loop that included the rail trail below our house, but not the 5 mile loop that we were running a bit awhile ago. This is more like a 3 mile loop. Downhill mostly, on pavement for the first half, then easy (railroad grade) uphill for another ~10 mins to a steep uphill onto our road, then about 3 mins back to the house. Humid humid humid, I could feel the air getting stuck in my throat. Surprisingly warm for late September also, although we're getting thunderstorms now and it's cooled off a lot. I haven't really run, just run, in a long time now, and I felt kind of gangly, like a beginner, or just someone that hasn't run all season. I'd probably feel much better if I went out tomorrow... but I doubt that'll happen. ;o)

| Tuesday practice scrimmage. No warm up and halfway through the game I went for a cut, faking first, but with no cleats, I went into a sort of split and stressed my quad on my left leg and the hammy on the right leg. I don't think it's too bad, but I was out for the rest of the game, just hope that I'm not out for the rest of the month. Not too happy about it. | ||

| Setting out two trek controls with K and Chris E. Trails and a dry riverbed. I wanted to run some more, but we had to get to TA 2 (only to wait, oh well). The Belknaps are awesome, and I think the teams have figured that out after this race!! Estimated time for the top team on the trek section was 7 hours, (I'm not sure if that was taking darkness into consideration) but it ended up taking the winning team (not fastest split) 11 hours!!

| Practice 2 - this time my quads felt like they were going to fall right off! By the end of the practice, I could barely run I was so tired. And sprinting and jumping for high tosses was completely out of the question!
We've been playing 7 on 7 (this is frisbee I'm talking about, in case anyone doesn' tknow the "Ultimate" term.) And I've found that I've taken up the end-zone runs, since I seem to be able to run faster (and not handle the frisbee as well) as others on the team. So it turns out to be a lot of running! Back and forth...back and forth... and it's so much more than indoor soccer, since it's on a field that's just slightly shorter than a regular soccer field. Good stuff!

| First practice with "Enough Monkey's" (Boris should appreciate that name) in Norwich, VT. I am certainly NOT in sprinting shape! My hamstrings were so sore the next few days! | ||

| Hiked up Moosilauke via the Benton Trail with Loki. Fast hike up, though my HR only got to 174, so 179 must have been on the way down!! (I was cruising!)
Up (3.4 miles, 1000m climb) took 1hr26, (ave 159, max 174) down the same way took 45mins. (ave 156, max 179). on top for 10mins (ave 111, max 146) Yea, I spent an entire 10 mins freezing on the socked in, visibility less than 50m summit while giving Loki some kibs so he had energy for the run down. (I think he ran about 4 times farther than I did on the way up) There was rime ice on the spruces and cairns at the summit and I was very glad that I brought the thin hat and gloves! Even when we got down to the trailhead again, the temp was only 45! Brr! I'm not quite ready for fall yet. But on the other hand, it was nice and refreshing. Short drive back to the house where I made a delicious "breakfast" (at noon) of scrambled eggs, bacon and homemade hashbrowns all mixed together!

| Orienteering race (UNO Camping Weekend) 1:31:00 [5] ***** 7.9 km (11:31 / km) | ||

| Interesting what the drastic difference in heat levels did to my heart rate. Yesterday my watch tells me that I was in zone 5 (max) nearly 3/4 the time, today though, which was much much cooler and drizzling rain all day, i was in zone 4 the entire time.
Today I again felt pretty good physically. Thought a hotspot on my heel was goin to bother me, but once i got in the woods, I forgot about it and it was fine. Running was fairly smooth except that I was constantly beign pulled to the right! I think the rocks in Pawtuckaway (being an old volcano) have some sort of magnetic pull that throws off the compass. Seriously, I went for a hike one time straight out towards South Mtn. and had to put my compass down to scramble up some cliffs and when I put it down (yes, it was level) the needle spun like, 30 degrees off!!!!! no joke. So, yea, I was being pulled off to the right the whole run, constantly correcting, telling myself to stop being such an idiot and just look at my map more often, but I was running fast and didn'thave time to look at the map, just going on a bearing more often than apparently I should have. Lost time on 5 (in the boulder field) just running straight hoping to run into something that I know, which never really happened, and rather than stopping and actually figureing it out for sure, I headed into the boulder field blind and miraclelously (i don't know how to spell that word) ran right into the boulder, despite nothing really fitting the map. LUCKY S.O.B. I AM!!! Still lost a few minutes though, being hesitant and attempting to relocate off of that squirrely mtn bike trail once. Fun run, chilled down quick after finishing, went for a swim (the water was warmer than the air!!) then drank lots of hot cocoa to warm up. (And to think that the day before I was sweating just standing...!)

| Orienteering race (UNO Camping Weekend) 1:41:00 [5] ***** 7.9 km (12:47 / km) | ||
| ahr:175 max:190 | ||
| Since Kristoffer couldn't make it due to injury, work deadline and the fact that the stupid park doesn't allow dogs, I decided to run blue for him. Only 7.9km, which in Pawtuckaway (in 90deg heat!) turns out to be really tough.
Didn't have a clean run at all, nearly ran off the map on the way to 5, though it turns out that I only lost about 2mins to Sam on that one. However, on the shortest leg out there, I lost 5 whole mins and blew it all. I definitely got tired about 2/3 of the way through the course. Another problem was that I had heard what Peter G. had run earlier in the day, so I was frantically looking at my watch and trying to catch up time so I wouldn't let him beat me, which of course, made me lose all concentration and ended up losing more time than if I had just walked patiently through the woods! Ah! Yea, he beat me. Felt good to get back in the woods, and especially at Pawtuckaway. Legs felt good, even towards the end, no blisters left over from teh rogaine either.
