Wednesday Nov 28

Soccer race 45:00 [5]
Fairly easy game, the other team had to forfeit for lack of their own players (they brought in some other guys though to make a full team, though that's not technically legal.) We ended up winning 4-3.
No injuries this time!!! Oh, I don't think entered our game last week... I got kicked in teh quad by some guy and it gave me a huge knot that hurt a lot!! I played out the rest of the 7 minutes that were left in the game,(we had no subs and were short a player as it was) but I couldn't do much other than hop around. Doctor dad (and mom) were over for Thanksgiving, so he told me how to make it bettre (typical ice and heat and massage (that I never do)). and whattayaknow! it got better. I even was able t ogo for a run'hike up Black Mtn that next day!
Yea, so no injuries this time.

Sunday Nov 25

Weights (firewood) 2:00:00 [1]
Splitting and stacking a lot of pine(crap) and maple (good!) My back, shoulders and arms are sore today so I know it was somewhat of a good strength workout. I was down to a t-shirt for the duration in 20F weather...

Saturday Nov 24

Hiking 2:00:00 [1]
Hiking around behind BLack Mtn. Logged over area, but a cool river ravine, and in general would make some nice ski trails!

Friday Nov 23

Run/Hike 1:50:00 [3]
The parents, Loki and I went for a run up Black Mtn. My father had never been up there, so we decided better late than not at all, as we left the trailhead at 3:10pm in true Olafsen fashion. An hour up (and we actually only made it to the false summit, about 8 mins below the true summit, due to icy conditions) glanced around at the lack of view due to snow and darkness falling and then started down. 40 mins down, picking our way carefully to avoid the ice (or frozen ground which actually got us tripped up more than the ice!) and made it back to the car just when we would have needed to get out the headlamps.
They were on their way home, so they dropped me about a half mile from the house where they turned off to go home, and Loki and I ran the rest of the way in the dark (albeit with a hazy snowcovered full moon!)

Wednesday Nov 14

Soccer 45:00 [4]
We lost 1-3...we should have beat these guys, but their goalie was a pro, i'm sure of it. We had so many shots on goal that if it were any other guy in there, the score would have been 7-3.

Sunday Nov 11

Weights 1:00:00 [1]
Hauling 1.5 cords of firewood into the basement, restacking the pile with fresh split stuff, then cutting up some more trees. (This all took much longer than an hour...but for conversion to actual workout time...I'll give it an hour.)

Mtn Biking 2:45:00 [3]
Riding with Joe, Ken, Chris, Kristoffer and Loki at Massabesic. This place is a lot of fun, though I think Kingdom trails are more my style...where you can just crank, not worrying about rocks and roots so much. Though such technical riding is certainly still enjoyable. Maybe if I had a full suspension bike I'd like it more.. .at least my butt wouldn't hurt so much by the end of the ride.
Polished off with a fantastic margarita and a chile relleno at La Carreta,. mmmm...

Soccer 45:00 [3]
This game was a lot of fun for some reason, more fun than the other games, anyway! last game of Preseason, next wednesday the games start for real!

Sunday Nov 4

Orienteering race (US Champs Day 2) 1:08:00 [4] *** 7.4 km (9:11 / km)
ahr:160 max:180
Today was a bit better. At least no huge errors like #1 on Saturday. Still was a bit hesitant coming into the circle, not being able to see the feature exactly. And I totally misread the reentrant coming into the second to last control. But most of teh time I knew right where the control was, and it's just so nice when that happens! Lost most of my time I think on the longish leg inthe middle...got caught up in the green and it carried me too far left, but was able to relocate off of some really vague features in there.
Overall felt that my legs were fairly tired from Day 1 and the 3 hour super tour of DC that afternoon which gave me an annoying blister on my toe.
The woods were much more enjoyable today and I was able to read the map very well, ... which is always nice!

Day 2 Red Y - Splits

Saturday Nov 3

Orienteering race (US Champs Day 1) 1:29:00 [4] 9.2 km (9:40 / km)
I felt like I had no pressure on me today, although I was super nervous in the morning because I knew I wasn't prepared for this race and that everyone was going to kick my butt.
I neglected to figure out that we were getting control codes at teh start so I dutifully tore out the Red X (I never took any biology/genetics classes) codes that morning and affixed them to my arm holder. When I made my way to the start i finially figured it out that these were NOT my course codes, so I ripped them off, but then when I recieved the actual codes, I was not prepared and as I was punching the start box, I was still fumbling trying to get the stupid piece of paper in the holder... stupid me.
So number 1 was horrendous, although certainly not as bad as it could have been. I got stuck in the green nastyness, attempting to find the reentrant and ditch too early. Finally headed back up the hill to the "ridge" (very vague) and found the little knoll/berm that was mapped, then relocated and went off of that and found the CP. Phew!
The rest of the course wasn't too bad, legs felt good and I was navigating and reading the map quite well, despite how rusty I thought I'd be. It felt so good to bomb through the woods, even considering how green and briar-y it was! I definitely had some iffy route choices, like the long leg that I decided to go straight through to...probably should have taken the road around, but I like woods running SO much more than road running...
Then after the bridge (radio control) I took the road around there and probably losta few minutes. oops.
But overall, navigating went pretty well and I didn't feel nearly as out of shape as I thought I would! (My tapering schedule must have worked!!!) ;o)
