| Spinning bike 43:00 [4] 25 km (1:43 / km) | ||
| ahr:148 max:174 | ||
| Spinning after lifting. Legs felt good, weak still, but my knee was good. Did intervals: warmup for 6', power 2', standing 2', power 2', rest 2'. Then again, 4 sets, then rest for another 5' or so. | ||

Sunday Apr 27 | ||
| Road biking (on my mtn bike) 1:00:00 [2] | ||
| Rode my mtn bike down (there is NO WAY to ride my road bike down our rutted, rocky road) to town to where Dartmouth was hosting the ECCC Road race. Sounded like a brutal course up and over Moosilauke via Kinsman Notch and on Routes 112, 116 and 118. the A group guys were doing 2 laps of this 51 mile route! Ouch. there are at least two hills that even your car will labor up!
Didn't know anyone there, it's been so long since I raced...Our coach, Ed, isn't coaching anymore but was volunteeering to drive the pace car for the A guys. But I rode my mtn bike around (getting semi-digusted/confused looks from the yuppie cyclists that were hanging around). In any case, it felt good to get out on the bike, moving fast, powering down hills and cruising up others. (i know, it should be the other way around, but it felt better to push the downhills and take the uphills easy! SOoooo out of shape..) Legs are sore today. (monday)
| Unspecified (strength) 30:00 [1] | ||
| Random strength stuff like splitting firewood and tilling the garden. I probably wouldn't normally log this stuff, but my arms were really tired and I could feel them aching every time I moved, so I could tell that this was quite a workout for them! | ||
Saturday Apr 26 | ||
| Weights 25:00 [1] | ||
| The plan was arms - bi and tri - but my parents showed up before we could finsih...fine wtih me, my arms are dead tired right now as it is. | ||
| Running 58:25 [4] 5.0 mi (11:41 / mi) | ||
| Run down to the rail bed, out and back and up with K, L and my parents. It was nice in that dad and K and L could all run together up ahead (throwing frisbees and talking about track and PRs and fast stuff - reliving their fast days) while mom and I could lallygag behind (not really, we were actually pushing pretty hard considering the shape we're in!) | ||
Thursday Apr 24 | ||
| Weights 45:00 [1] | ||
| Shoulders and back
but today my triceps are sore more than anythign else... hm. Time includes chopping firewood for another 5 mins. I seem to be doing one log per night on average (this maple tree we cut last fall is taking forever to chop..one log section creates about 6-8 firewood pieces! they're big!!!)
Wednesday Apr 23 | ||
| Note | ||
| So, Kristoffer and I got home last night around 7pm, drove in the driveway, I dropped off my stuff inside, then came back out with Loki to throw the frisbee. All of a sudden, Loki is barking like crazy, so I look up to the road, expecting to see some people walk by with their dog, but alas, it is not people, or a dog, that I see but a freakin' MOOSE. Just standing there, staring down at Loki and I. Then, bored with the fact that we only staring back, dumbfounded that a moose is just walking down our road, he continues on his way, meandering down the road, stopping here and there at good smelling treebuds until he finally ducked into wherever must have been a good walking path through the woods.
I love living in the northcountry! :o)
| C • Moose! 3 | ||
| Spinning bike 25:00 [4] 16 km (1:34 / km) | ||
| Easy spinning, building resistance every 5 mins until i could barely push the pedals anymore...so I stopped after a 5 min cooldown. Legs were tired anyway after lifting so I wasn't planning on going very long. | ||
| Weights 45:00 [1] | ||
| Lifted legs for the first time. Quad exercises were fine, but pulling up on my right hamstring (injured leg) did NOT feel good. Didn't really hurt, but something is just not strong enough or comfortable enough to do that motion yet. *sigh* | ||
Monday Apr 21 | ||
| Weights (Firewood splitting) 10:00 [1] | ||
| I am definitely counting this as strength...my dad always said, splitting firewood was the best nordic ski workout.. and it must be true...my hamstrings (from bending over and lifting logs) and back and shoulders are sore! (though this is sad, too, since it tells me how out of shape i am...)
Went to a Low-Impact Development conference in Burlington, VT today. Our company is trying to use a lot of these approaches in our site development and designs. Excellent speakers and examples to learn from. I even ran into Mary Jo Childs, who lives nearby and gave me the tip to head to the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory to treats...which I did, thanks!!! Now i really have to go out for a run... ;o)
| C • Yummy chocolate! 2 | ||
Sunday Apr 20 | ||
| Weights (Firewood splitting) 20:00 [1] | ||
| Splitting and stacking firewood...excellent strength workout...
Drove to Littleton today to swap out the loaner fork on my mtn bike...so i'm ready to ride now!!! Too bad the trails really aren't ready for me to ride them though...just a tid bit too wet still.
Saturday Apr 19 | ||
| Alpine skiing 3:30:00 [1] | ||
| Yea, yea, alpine skiing, not much of a workout...but OH MY GOD, I am so sore!!!! My butt, quads, hams and upper calfs are so "ouch" and my arms and neck are so "ouch", but for a sunburn not for muscle burn! ;o)
Beautiful day at Loon with my mom and aunt and uncle. 70 degrees out when we arrived at the mountain in flip flops!! Gotta love spring skiing! The conditions were amazing too, a bit slushy towards the end, but no ice (or it was soft enough to grip) and not too many rocks or bare spots, ..and no lines...love it.

| Ultimate 1:00:00 [4] | ||
| First real practice of the year. I really really need to remember to warm up before getting on the field and all of a sudden doing 100m sprints all over the place. | ||
Tuesday Apr 15 | ||
| Weights 10:00 [1] | ||
| K had soccer tonight, so I was home alone. Most of my time was spent undamming streams around the house and digging out a ditch, hopefully allowing our lawn to dry out from the snowmelt. Then i went and did like 2 things on the bowflex, got hungry and went to make dinner. (Not very motivated today...my knee was a bit sore from the spinning, so I decided to take it easy).
I figure, I've been out of training for so long now, I need some rest days to work my way back into the routine, otherwise I fear burnout, like what happened a few years back. Not this time!!!

Monday Apr 14 | ||
| Spinning bike 40:00 [3] | ||
| ahr:147 max:169 | ||
| By the time we got home from work it was nearly dark, and cold, so I went spinning instead of a run. (Also hoping to give my knee a rest from the run Sunday.) Biking felt good, I really kept very low resistance and high cadence and my knee didn't bother me, though I could definitely feel it swelling towards the end. I did ice it later on (while eating dinner) and today it feels fine. Unfortunately, my biking muscles are incredibly weak right now, but I feel that I'm not ready to push the resistance quite yet...we'll get there though! | ||
| Weights 10:00 [1] | ||
| Did some exercises on the bowflex, working back and core. Then I was tired and hungry, so I called it quits. | ||
Sunday Apr 13 | ||
| Event: 30th Annual Billygoat Run | ||
| Running 1:02:00 [3] 5.0 mi (12:23 / mi) | ||
| ahr:156 max:182 shoes: Soloman Goretex | ||
| Ran w/ K and L down to the rail bed, out to the road and back. Cold, snowing, muddy and icy. Legs felt good, the knee felt good! I think I could have run that pace forever! Nice to feel that even though I took so much time off, I can still move. I was ready to stop though, by the time we got back to the house! | ||
| Weights 35:00 [1] | ||
| Focus on arms and back. | ||
Saturday Apr 12 | ||
| Weights 30:00 [1] | ||
| we got a bowflex.
I usually hate lifting weights, but this thing is awesome! Lifted focusing on shoulders and chest, tomorrow will be arms and back, then legs, i think, is the schedule.. I'm going to get jacked.
| C • "this thing"? so what is it? 2 | ||
Thursday Apr 10 | ||
| Running 22:00 [3] | ||
| My first real run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, it felt so bad, but so good! My knee didn't give me any real problems other than I think I was being really cautious on the trail (muddy, wet, slimy mossy rocks, etc.) and then I thought I probably shouldn't push it too much, so I turned around pretty early and headed back. (I ran down the nasty trail to the rail road bed, then down only a few hundred meters to a bridge, turned around and ran/walked back up the nasty trail, undamming streams and trying to divert water away from the trail.) It was still quite snowpacked and icy in places from the snazmoblasters, so footing wasn't so solid, especially when there was runnign water underneath and your feet keep falling through..getting soaking wet. oh it was so good! When I made it home, I iced the knee, albeit a few hours later after cleaning the basement, showering, and dinnering, but today (friday) it feels pretty good!! So happy!!!! I think I shall take myself off the injured list!
| C • Yay! 5 | ||
Tuesday Apr 8 | ||
| Ultimate 30:00 [4] | ||
| 4 on 4 in the parking lot...lungs burning...no warm up...but my knee feels pretty good!! I was even playing in jeans and shoes that have absolutely no traction... fun sliding! | ||
Thursday Apr 3 | ||
| Ultimate 20:00 [3] | ||
| Finally got out to throw the frisbee around. We played some 4 on 4 in the parking lot (fields are too wet and sloppy still) so I got to run around a bit!! My knee felt fine out there, but once I got home I had to ice it and sit down. The tendons in the back of the knee actually hurt more than anything...like tendonitis...they aren't used to pulling my lower leg up that much I think!! But today (Friday) the knee feels awesome, so I think I'm going to start running on it for real (easy of course) and getting back on the bike a bit. So exciting!!! | ||
