Friday Dec 31

Running (HILL) 1:00:00 [3]
Kristoffer and I ran up Cardigan in the dark again. Trail was more hardpacked this time, and we could get more traction, still didn't bother going to the top, would've been pretty slick. A lot warmer out this time, too.

Thursday Dec 30

Running 1:00:00 [3]
K & I ran the railroad trail out and back in the dark. Felt pretty good despite being starving, having to hold off dinner to do this run...and not really eating lunch. hmm.

Tuesday Dec 28

Unspecified (Core-abs, pushups) 10:00 [2]
Just a few crunches, push ups, other core stuff..
Spinning bike 1:40:00 [3]
Nice, easy, long (ish) ride. Got to use the new iPod on the bike, and read some stupid magazine, so the time went by sort of fast. Legs felt good. I am jealous though, I dont' get to watch Friends episodes like Sandra.

Sunday Dec 26

Run/Hike 2:47:05 [3]
Kristoffer, Mom and Dad and I went for a run/hike up and around Mt. Israel. It's almost a 4,000footer near my parents house. The trail goes up, over the other side and around on a dirt road, about 7.7miles long total and hilly. It was real icy and absolutely everywhere, trail, road, woods, was super slick! The new Goretex shoes protected well from unfrozen stream crossings and provided excellent grip despite such conditions.
And of course, being the Olafsen's that we are...we started this adventure at 3pm. By the time we were down off the mountain it was nearly pitch black, and we still had 3.5 miles to go on slick trails and roads. We had brought headlamps and it was snowing and we were warm from running, so it was all good! I love our adventures...

Saturday Dec 25

Run/Hike 1:07:00 [4]
Ouch. This run just killed my lungs. Kristoffer and I ran up and over Rattlesnake Mtn, near my parents house. I don't know mileage, but it's a wicked steep ascent and the entire trail (and woods) was incredibly icy. My back is sore from pulling myself up and stopping myself on the way down with the trees. We didn't have any warm up before the ascent so the lungs were burning in the cold dry air. Felt good afterward though!

Wednesday Dec 22

Swimming 1:00:00 [3]
Swim. Felt good.
This morning (Thurs am) my ribs hurt when I yawn, probably strained from teh swim. Other than that, legs feel good and arms are only slightly tired, not sore though.

Sunday Dec 19

Skate Skiing 3:00:00 [3]
Skiing at the Trapp Family T.C. Snow conditions were great up here! Smooth clean trails, snow was a bit warmer than yesterday and the skis felt 'wicked' fast! Greta was up here, too, racing a Junior Olympic Qualifier, so we skied around a bit with my mom, up to a cabin for some soup and hot cider...and it was snowing....It was certainly a wonderful snowy ski weekend! AND I wasn't even sore, except my back, right on and between my shoulderblades..ouch.

Saturday Dec 18

Skate Skiing 4:30:00 [3]
Kristoffer and I went to Stowe, VT for the weekend, Saturday at Stowe XC Center and SUnday at Trapp Family Touring Center. Sat. was beautiful out, sunny and cold, skis felt a bit draggy due to the warmer wax we had on but still felt great to get back on snow finally!
Also took some time to teach Kristoffer's friend Chris how to skate...interesting.

Thursday Dec 16

Running 45:00 [3]
Trail run in and around Walker SP in Concord with Kristoffer. My headlamp was running low on batteries and I was tripping over rocks and roots fairly often which made for a tough run.

Wednesday Dec 15

Treadmill (core) 15:00 [2]
Core- abs, pushups backups
Spinning bike 30:00 [3]
half hour on the bike, very boring this time, I had no music and there wasn't anything going on in the gym, blah.
Running 20:00 [3]
STupid treadmill running. But having the TVs in front of me was much more interesting than the bike, so it wasn't nearly as boring and time went by much faster.

Tuesday Dec 14

Run/Hike 1:00:00 [3]
Run up Mt. Cardigan with Kristoffer at night. Found lots of snow when we got up to the parking lot, but with our new goretex shoes, feet were warm and we had lots of traction! Didn't make it to the top due to high winds, icey open ledge, deep snow drifts and frozen cheeks! (it was about half mile of above treeline alpine tundra sort of terrain)
The sliver of a moon had already set by the time we got up, but the sky was crystal clear and the cold sparkling snow was gorgeous glinting in our headlamp light. Also the sounds of ice chimes in the trees as the wind blew through.

Monday Dec 13

Spinning bike 1:00:00 [3]
Felt good to ride again. Butt is a bit sore today, those spin bike seats are really not all that comfortable...
Treadmill (core) 30:00 [2]
Bunch of ab work, push ups, back ups

Tuesday Dec 7

Running 30:00 [3]
Yuck, running on the treadmill. It destroys my knees.
Treadmill 40:00 [2]
Gym, includes weights, core (pushups, situps) some stuff from UNH skiing..
There was hardly anyone there so it was nice to be able to do my own thing with all the machines at my disposal! (Very poor weather, roads were all slick and icy and people driving like maniacs.)

Saturday Dec 4

Run/Hike 1:45:00 [3]
Run/hike orienteering w/ Kristoffer at Briones State Park in the Berkeley/Oakland hills in CAlifornia. I had never run out here before but now I realize just how steep the terrain is! I have a lot of respect now. The hills are beautiful despite the smog/fog/haze and it feels so good being out inthe open like that, rather than in the stupid hemlock forests of the east.

Wednesday Dec 1

Swimming 45:00 [3]
