| Unspecified (Lawn Mowing) 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| Can I be like Ken Walker Sr and put this in as training? I mean, they have lawn mowing races...and those are ones that you can even sit on! This one at least had to be pushed, though it does have a motor that helps out.
It's still a lot of work.

| Running 26:00 [3] 2.9 mi (8:57 / mi) | ||
| ahr:150 max:164 | ||
| A nice run with K's sister Elizabeth who is visiting from Copenhagen. K and his mom dropped us off about 3 miles from the swimming hole and we ran there to meet them. We had a much appreciated cool down swim once we arrived! | ||

| Orienteering 1:04:00 [3] **** 5.5 km (11:38 / km) | ||
| ahr:169 max:186 | ||
| Great course by Ken. very technical with some route choice. Despite my ambition to change my training mentality, I still found myself thinking that I know where that control is, or recognizing woods here and there and making my route choice accordingly. Today was easier to avoid this familiarity, since we haven't gone onto this section of map often, if at all.
High HR due to heat mostly, and I think the fact that I can't take deep breaths still.

| Excellent training session at Burnt Mtn. Felt like we haven't been here for a reallly long time, which we haven't.
Oh, but it was so nice to go running through the woods! Except that since I was having so much fun runnign through the woods and trying not to get my eye poked out with all those hemlock "spears", I really didn't look at my map at all. And also maybe becuase I know where all our controls are that I try running from memory, recognizing places as I go. For instance, coming out of C2 to C3, I never looked at my map, only briefly at my compass. I bombed down the hill becaues I was so SURE that the swamp and the cliffs where the control was were down the hill. Turns out that if anything these cliffs were actually UP a contour from where I started. D'oh. fortunately I could remember where I had just run and ran back up the way I came (becuase I basically ran off the map (not fieldchecked down there.) and had nothing to relocate off of. Then I ran into something on the edge of the fieldchecked area and got to C3 from there. I think i needed to slow down, and perhaps have a different mentality going on these training runs. Try not to just remember the control locations and features, but actually "orienteer" to the controls. It's tough. But fun!

| Run/Hike 3:30:00 [1] 4.0 mi (52:29 / mi) | ||
| Kristoffer's mom and sister were up for the weekend and we went on a nice hike up Black Mtn. Hike was a nice easy pace and the ribs didn't hurt except when scrambling up rock faces or whatever running down hills I decided to do, which wasn't that often this time.
Beautiful day and lots and lots of blueberry picking and eating along the way!
Monday Jul 16 | ||
| Running 47:00 [3] | ||
| ahr:154 max:172 | ||
| Run with Mom, Dad, Greta, Tora and Ryan north along the beach, across the bridge over the inlet between Avalon and Sea Isle City, which is probably the highest point in southern NJ, and then back. It was around 9-9:30 and again, baking hot. Ran right to the beach and into the water.
The bruise and whatever other injury I sustained Saturday in my side ddin't like this run, and I don't think i'll be running again soon. It was like running with a really really bad side cramp. Couldn't take a normal breath and my stride just couldn't even out the whole run. I felt like a retard. Most of all though, I'm surprised that I'm not sore after saturday. I think that running first, riding second was a good way to do it, the run warmed me up, and the biking was more like a cool down.

| Road biking 45:00 [1] | ||
| Down at the beaches in Avalon, NJ for the rest of the weekend with the fam.
Rode bikes with my mom 60 blocks (totally pancake flat) to scout a breakfast place, which ended up being closed, and more of a bar than anything anyway. Even by 9am it was baking hot, ahhh, southern jersey.

| Orienteering race (WCOC Du-O) 2:25:00 [4] *** | ||
| ahr:173 max:184 | ||
| Great course, great map (Trout Brook has awesome open woods and really fun mtn bike trails!)
After not training much in the last month, my heart rate was sky high, and the legs didn't want to push it much, but it felt so good to get out there, that I cruised through. The run section was going fine until I decided to completely screw up CP5. taking a horrendous route into the control and an even worse one out. I went out of the control and headed towards a large cliff, which looked doable to get down, found good footing, stepping down onto this rock, covered in leaves and gravel and immediately lost my footing, landing hard on my side on a pointy rock, then sliding down the cliff, destroying the left side of my ribs. I laid there for a minute or two, then got up and made my way down the rest of this stupid cliff (which was totally an unnecessary fight, ugh.) The next leg was really slow and unconcentrated, back and forth, couldn't make up my mind, kept trying to go to one of the bike controls, recover, off course, recover. miserable. Finally got going again after the next CP and got to the TA, hopped on the bike and my side felt ok, thankfully, otherwise I proablay woldn't have finished. Fortunately, the bike section went smoothly, and by the time I cruised back into the finish, I ended up in first! Sweet.

| Tennis 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| A co-worker of mine mentioned that he was goin to play tennis after work one day and that got me thinking...I wanted to play tennis again too! I took lessons when I was young and hated it because we always had to play in the heat of the day and I just couldn't stand it. So it's been quite a while since I've played, and it shows! K and I found some courts 3 mins from the house in town and have gone 3 times so far. Strangly, my serve has been the best the very frist time we played and has gotten worse and worse the more we play..
It's a decent workout, and you'd be surprised how much you can work up a sweat. Also, we've been watching Wimbleton, congrats to all you Swiss out there for Federer's win over Nadal (though I was routing for Nadal...gotta route for the underdog...and he so much more humble than Roger, which is so much cooler.) Anyway...tennis is fun.

| Run/Hike 1:30:00 [3] 5.0 mi (17:59 / mi) | ||
| Loki and I went on a run/hike up Black Mtn. Felt so good to get out and do something quite physical. We've been injured/busy/lazy for the past few weeks and haven't done much of anything except playing tennis here and there. Heart rate was soaring going up (it's a steep mountain!) and my quads were burning going down! Legs are quite sore today (monday).
Found some blueberries at teh top, but mostly they aren't quite ripe yet.
