Monday Dec 31

Multi-discipline 1:00:00 [2]
New Years Eve Capture the Flag and Snowball Fight

6 on 6, we won both events! (K and I got to be on the same team)
Running around in a foot and a half of powdery, then crusty then powdery snow is hard work!

Classic Skiing 45:00 [3]
Loki and I went for a ski before everyone showed up for New Years party. Got some new (to me!) no-wax fishscales for christmas, so i had to test them out! Awesome, by the way!!!
Down the road, which wasn't plowed on the sides yet, down the steep hill (fell twice, kind of on purpose so i wouldn't kill myself on a tree) to the railroad bed, down and then back up a snowmobile trail, then bushwacking back to the house. This sufficiently tired Loki out... which was half the point!

Sunday Dec 30

Ice Climbing 2:00:00 [1]
Yesterday Chris, Kristoffer, Joe Aubin and I attempted to go climbing in a quarry outside of Lebanon, but, due to the awesome weather (40degrees and sunny) the ice was crap, so we didn't get to climb anything at all. So today we were bound and determined to climb some ice and instead went to crawford notch at Willey's Slide. Basic slab climb, took us 3, 4? now I can't remember, pitches to the top, then scramble down on the side. I've never done multi-pitch anythign before so this was pretty much just a practice day. And we even managed to get back to the car before dark!! I love ice climbing - just wish that we could have done something a bit more difficult.. next time!

Thursday Dec 27

Hiking (work) 30:00 [1]
Again, hiking around in the deep snow, ok, it's not so deep anymore, but after the rains last sunday, the snow now has a thick layer of crust that makes snowshoeing rather difficult. Hiking into our last setup, then back out at the end of the day. (more justification...this is also carrying about 50lbs of equipment.)

Sunday Dec 23

Hiking 20:00 [2]
This was the approach in (up!) to get to some icy cliffs in Kinsman Notch. Unfortunately the weather was horrible, drizzly, wet and nasty, but climbing was still good!

Saturday Dec 22

Hiking 2:00:00 [2] 2.0 mi (1:00:00 / mi)
So stupid.
K and I were all gung-ho about going ice climbing today, online we found a great spot called Holt's Ledge, near Hanover. Well, I was in charge of getting directions to the cliff and the only thing i could find online ended up taking us to the top of this half mile long cliff that we just weren't going to hike around and down to, so we just turned around and headed back to the car. Ugh. By the time we got down, it was too late to go in to where the real ice climbing was.. what a waste... but a nice hike on the AT! :-/

Thursday Dec 20

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
This was actually work related. We went out surveying today, a boundary traverse around 110 acres (no, we didn't finish it in one day.) But with 2 feet of powder, the going was tough, even onthe downhill back to the truck. So either I'm really really out of shape, or that really was a lot of work... I'm going to say both actually.

Wednesday Dec 19

Soccer race 40:00 [4]
Game against the #1 in the league. As usual, we played the first half beautifully, ending in a tie 2-2 .But then second half rolled around and our team tends to fade, dreaming of beer and fries at the bar (whiich is right next to the field, - like 10 feet). So we ended up losing 2-4.. blah.

Sunday Dec 16

Hiking (Snowshoeing) 1:00:00 [2]
Kristoffer, Loki and I headed out in all the fresh powder, just behind our house, through the woods, down to the railroad bedand back up. Heard a coyote following us and barking (again... this happened orienteering at Burnt mtn this summer!) What a winter wonderland!
C • Scouting for New Years fun ... 3
Unspecified (Shoveling) 1:30:00 [1]
Shoveled out the driveway all by myself! Well, Loki "helped" for a bit, until he got too cold from getting doused in shovel-fulls of snow! Ok, my back hurts now.

Saturday Dec 15

Run/Hike (Snowshoeing) 40:00 [2]
Took Loki out for a run through the woods, the snow was deep enough to make running really tough, so I only really ran the downhills, then hiked up back to the house.

Monday Dec 3

Note
Hey!!! No work today!! Snow day, and we've only gotten about 6 inches, but the town offices were closed, so our office was closed.... now Loki wants to go out and shovel, and i should get out for a run... we'll see if that happens.

Sunday Dec 2

Event: Blue Hills Traverse

Orienteering race 2:17:00 [4] *** 13.6 km (10:04 / km)
Ran with mom and Tora the whole way, which is a nice break from the always pushing, "need to win" competition state that I usually race in. The course was a lot of fun, plenty of route choices, trail options and nice woods running. Felt pretty good running, though i'm not sure that I would have run much faster if I was on my own.
Kristoffer ran too! He had fun out there, running in the lead pack, but is hurting now... we need to start some sort of training!!!
