Tuesday May 27

Ultimate intervals 2:15:00 [2]
Terrible day for me, I think i'm a warm weather player, can't catch or throw anythig when my wrists and hands get cold... wah.

Sunday May 25

Mtn Biking 2:30:00 [3]
Riding with K and L up at Kingdom. Hard ride today, felt so good to crank through the singletrack and cruise on the doubletrack! Loki was tuckered by the end, but he was able to get a good 15 min swim in the middle there, while we stopped by the river.
Unfortunately now he has blisters on his front pads, poor guy, limping around, standing on his "tip-toes". Might need to get him some booties.

Thursday May 22

Ultimate intervals 2:00:00 [3]
My feet and ankles were really hurting, and I think it's from practice tuesday and from this rotten field we play on. It seriously felt like my feet bones had small fractures in them and my ankles felt really weak and tired. Perhaps it's just my cleats, lack of cusioning and conditioning, but it wasn't pleasant.
Won the first game, lost miserably in the second and destroyed the third...weird team matchups..

Tuesday May 20

Weights 10:00 [1]
Back. morning..ugh.
K's new theory is to do very short, one muscle group, workouts so that we'll be more likely to actually do them, rather than having to plan 45 mins into the day somewhere.
C • I think that's the type of ... 2
Ultimate 1:30:00 [3]
Lost one game, won one game.. I scored at least a hat-trick in the first game! Had to leave early from the 2nd game.

Monday May 19

Weights 10:00 [1]
Chest. Yea, i guess this was a rest day too.

Sunday May 18

Note
(rest day)
After yesterday's ride, and all the excercise last week, we were wiped out. Went to the garden center to pick up some plants instead. then plopped on the couch and napped.

Saturday May 17

Mtn Biking 3:30:00 [2]
My mom came over and she, K, L and I headed up to Kingdom for the first ride of the season!! K and I are now official season pass holders (at a "whopping" $40 each, we only have to go 4 times to make it worth it!) Anyway, the trails were in great shape and we found some new trails that were sweet. Legs were certainly tired by the end of the ride and Loki was more than tuckered. love that place.

Friday May 16

Note
(rest day)
Instead of running, both K and I were really tired, and wanted to go to the movies, so we went to see Ironman, which turned out to be quite entertaining and not nearly as cheesy as I was imagining!

Thursday May 15

Ultimate intervals 1:30:00 [3]
Legs still feeling real tired from training this week and from last weekend too. Quads are finally not so sore anymore but my calves are still tight. Hoping to go biking this weekend, Kingdom Trails!!!!! hope it doesn't rain...

Wednesday May 14

Running 51:50 [3]
ahr:159 max:177
Run w/ K and L down to the rail bed, up and back. Legs were tired from previous days runs, form felt sloppy and i kept getting these twinges up through my achiles. I think my legs were just tight and needed to be stretched out.

Tuesday May 13

Ultimate intervals 1:15:00 [3]
ahr:157 max:189
Won both our games!!

Monday May 12

Run/Hike 59:00 [3] 4.0 mi (14:45 / mi)
ahr:150 max:172
"recovery" run after the race yesterday. We decided to run up the front side (steep side!) of Black Mtn. Legs felt pretty good, despite what I thought I was goign to feel like! Calves were still really tight afterwards though.
Man, i love that run though...feel like you're on top of the world after only 37 minutes of running uphill.
37 mins up, 22 down. K's goal is to run up in 30 mins...i think i'll set mine at 32. totally doable. we could probably have gotten down faster too...but the trail was still covered with a winter's worth of pine needles and very very slippery...and i didn't feel like breaking my face, or butt, or ankle tripping and falling at this point in my season.
C • "at this point in my season... 9

Sunday May 11

Running race (Muddy Moose Trail Race) 32:00 [5] 4.0 mi (7:59 / mi) vdot: 39.1
ahr:172 max:183 slept:5.0
This is an XTerra Trail Race, part of a series in central NH. The option to run the 4 mile (which I did) and a 14 mile course, you choose once you get out there. Tempted to run the 14 until I started too fast, died in the mud and on hills, DEFINITELY did not want to run 14 miles in the condition I'm in. Plus, I didn't think it'd be good for my knee/tendonitis thing. So I ran the 4 while Mom and dad ran teh 14. When I finiished i grabbed my bike and hit some pretty awesome trails on my way out to watch/cheer at a far out point on the course. It was a good cool down, too though, since my calves were incredibly tight after my short dinky little race. (making up for lack of quad strength i think!)

Friday May 9

Running 59:00 [4] *
ahr:160 max:183
Loki and I found a trail that runs along the hillside under Black Mtn. The gazateer showed it to be about 5 miles, 2/3 trail/jeep road 1/3 dirt road. In reality the trail for the first half was no more than a glorified deer highway where I was following naught but moose and Loki tracks. Eventually this path became more the width of a 4 wheeler trail (no sign of actual 4 wheelers though, thankfully) which took us past an ancient cellar hole (beautiful old granite foundation and barn walls and pasture walls everywhere.) From here the trail became an old range road, leading then to a dirt road that led to another dirt road and back to the parkign lot.
Didn't end up seeing any moose or deer, or anything really. Surprising because I realy felt like I was running through the middle of nowhere.
Very nice run, felt like a lot longer than only an hour though! Probably just because I wasn't quite sure where I was for most of the time! (silly orienteer for not bringing a map (I had only sketched a few lines on paper hoping that the trail would be blazed and easy to follow) or a compass..)

Wednesday May 7

Unspecified (firewood splitting) 15:00 [1]
FINALLY got all those stupid maple logs split! blisters on my hands and shoulders and back are quite sore today (day after).
Decided to make this a rest day. The tendonitis behind my previously injured knee was acting up from playing hard at ultimate, and after baking in the hot sun laying out road centerlines all day, I didn't feel like doing much of anything.

Tuesday May 6

Ultimate 1:00:00 [3]
ahr:155 max:187
I wore my heartrate monitor for about half of practice, just to see what my HR would get up to and what the average "worth"? of the "training" would end up. Turns out ultimate is really good training, as my average HR was probably around 155 for an hour, getting up to high 180's every "point".
Then I gave the monitor to Palmer, who thought she was dead for the rest of practice, since it wasn't working for her... oh well.
Running 20:00 [4]
Loki and I ran down to the store to get drinks and snacks before K's soccer game. Turns out that the run down and back took longer than I thought, Loki had to pull me all theway up the hill so we got back in time, as my arm felt ike falling off from runnig with a quart of gatorade. tiring.

Monday May 5

Running (kinder forest trails) 31:00 [4]
Loki and I drove over to some trails that we've mtn biked on last fall. makes for great running trails, narrow singletrack, up and down, and then some nice open trails under large powerlines. Loki chased up at least 4 deer and a turkey, but only came home with 5 ticks..lovely.
As for me, my legs felt tired and my breathing was labored, made me feel incredibly out of shape and kind of hopeless for the rest of the season. I was looking at registering for the Jay Marathon, but I'm not sure if i'll be able to finish it!! (though i do have a few months to get into better shape..)

Also of note, I found a wildflower that I have never before seen!! I took one home and took some photos here. It was growing behind an old barn, near some trilliums and as far as my own research has brought me, I've decided it's a Bloodroot.
.
.
.
yes,...it definitely is...Bloodroot and poisonous too, hopefully our cat doesn't try to eat it while we're at work...

Sunday May 4

Note
(rest day)
After getting 2.5hours of sleep Friday night, getting up at 4:30am to drive over to Maine for the race, standing around in the cold wet all day, staying in semi-uncomfortable hotel beds Sat night and doing about 7 hours of driving all weekend... we got home around noon, unpacked gear and left it to dry out, laundry and whatnot, made up some lunch, watched a movie, and then promptly passed out for a few hours. It was awesome! I don't take naps very often, but this was absolutely necessary.

Saturday May 3

Event: Racing Ahead NEARS Race #1 6-hr

Mtn Biking (control pickup) 55:00 [4] ***
spiked:3/3c slept:2.5
Kristoffer and I were mandatory volunteers for the NEARS Race #1 at Pineland Farms in Gray, ME. I think the area and the course were great, but many teams were new, and I think the weather (40degrees and raining) and starting on the paddle, made many teams drop out early or get shortcoursed. It's amazing how cold and wet can just zap all energy or will to go on..
We manned CP2 on the river as well as CP5 (2nd bike cp). After all teams went through, we swept some of the bike CPs, racing through this bit of course to see if we could get a "winning split". it felt so good to move fast on the bike, navigating cleanly and efficiently on this Bike-O, and at times it really felt like we actually were racing (and then relief that we really weren't!)

Thursday May 1

Ultimate 2:00:00 [4]
Every time I say I will warm up before starting to play, and every time I don't, and then I burn my lungs out the first run... ugh.
Fun games, despite losing terribly. Knee felt okay, little tendonitis behind the knee later on after getting home.
