Thursday Jul 31

Ultimate 1:30:00 [2]
Played 1 game to 13, lost, but had a good comeback overall! Played a good drill in the beginning..good warmup. i like it.
Swimming in the pond afterwards, then beer and burgers. excellent.

Wednesday Jul 30

Road biking ("Commute?") 2:05:00 [3] 33.7 mi (3:42 / mi)
ahr:146 max:169
Decided to finally try to ride home. One way seemed like a good idea to start with and then if that goes well and doesn't take me forever, i oculd try riding TO work and back..phew. Well, 2 hrs 5 mins, slightly uphill the whole way (in general, following the Connecticut up-river). Could probably cut the time down maybe 10 mins going the other direction.
Overall nice to be on the road bike, felt good to move fast, but after a while got a bit boring, should have had a Shuffle or something to keep me occupied. Riding for that long by yourself is kinda lame. unless I was racing myself by doing intervals or trying to make it home in an 1.5 hrs or someting.. but I wasn't.
Running 12:00 [3]
ahr:159 max:169
In attempting to familiarize my muscles of what this type of transistion is like, when I got home, I dropped the bike (wobbly legs) and went for a run! Silly erin. very stiff the entire (whopping) 12 mins down the road, and onto the trail for a bit, then turn around and back. The trail section was very difficult (dark too by that time) and i realized how much concentration I had to put into my foot placements in order not to fall over!
I think i might try to do this a few more times (with a shorter bike ride beforehand perhaps) and experiment with doing some short (15-30sec) pickups after i get going to try to make my legs move faster. ?

Tuesday Jul 29

Ultimate 1:30:00 [2]
Won both games, though i didn't actually have much to do with that. stupid games, really.

Monday Jul 28

Note
(rest day)
we were going to go swimming, but K got a bunch of bike parts so he wanted to go home to work on that...which is good since it took him until 3am to get the bike back together again! So, instead of a hard workout..hah, i went to get some petrol for the lawnmower and then mowed the hayfield that is (or was now!) our lawn.

Sunday Jul 27

Mtn Biking 2:30:00 [3]
ahr:152 max:173
Kingdom with K and L. Rode most of the lower trails, lots of mud and slick roots to go skidding around on. Frustrating in teh beginning until I got used to it. legs were pretty beat by the end..

Saturday Jul 26

Note
Jay Mountain Marathon
C • tough one 7

Friday Jul 25

Running 1:00:00 [3] 7.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
ahr:154 max:173
Easy run on the Daniels Rd loop. Did 6x1min pickups, hopign that they would make my legs feel "speedier". I think it helped. It certianly helped the time go by!
A very pleasant run.

Thursday Jul 24

Ultimate 2:00:00 [3]
I had a hard time at this today. My legs just weren't there and I couldn't catch for crap. very frustrated today. kind of to the point of quitting...

i was never one for team sports.

Wednesday Jul 23

Spinning bike 1:15:00 [4]
ahr:146 max:169
Worked this pretty hard, not sure I've sweat'ed this much at one time in my life! Not a set workout, but I would spin, crank the resistance and do 10 mins, speeding up the cadence to about 115-120 every 30s, then backing down to 95. Then spin easy for a bit, then do it again. Not sure what exactly this workout is good for, but i felt good doing it and made the time go by quick! (watching the Tour helped, except for the commercials..)

Tuesday Jul 22

Orienteering 3:00:00 [2] ****
ahr:133 max:170
Picking up controls in Burnt Mtn with K and L. Took it fairly easy, especially after Loki took Kristoffer out while scrambling through a fallen tree and K turned his ankle...dog's gotta learn to slow down sometimes...

So, it took 3 days to set out these controls (had to go back to some to put out night-o controls, but we'll count that time anyway). Took Kristoffer 2 hours to run the whole course. Took EMS 3hr 50 (after racing for 10hrs). Took 2nd place team 6 hours (with an hour or two in the dark.) And it took us 3 hours to jog it while picking up the controls. Not too bad.
Legs felt pretty decent, glad i took the past few days off.

Monday Jul 21

Note
(rest day)
Really didn't feel like running in the woods today...still quite sleepy. We'll do it tomorrow...
Instead I almost finished painting that desk and bureau, so soooooon i should be able to move my socks and underwear out of the paper bag that I've been living out of for the past 2 years!! :o)

Sunday Jul 20

Note
(rest day)
Got back to the house around 10...turned on the tour (we had the previous stage recorded) and immediately fell asleep. Woke up at 2, ate some toast, back to tsleep, woke up at 7, made dinner, watched the Illusionist, went to bed at 10:45.
And it was a perfect day for this "activity" since it was pouring buckets outside.

Saturday Jul 19

Event: Racing Ahead NEARS Race#3

Mtn Biking 45:00 [2]
7am: Setting out controls in Meriden, NH for a foot-o section of the 24.
Orienteering 45:00 [3]
1pm: moving one control to another location (hilltop).... finally all teh controls are set!! (that seemed to take forever..)
Note
The rest of Saturday was spent waiting for teams to arrive on bikes and head into the orienteering section. Kristoffer had pre-run the entire course (20controls) in 2hr5mins, estimating about 9miles. EMS showed up around 5, right on schedule and headed into teh woods. half hour later, Summit Achievement arrived and headed out. Next team in was Strongbadia, then Wicked Pissah. The only teams to get all cps was EMS and Summit, in 3hr50min (finishing with minimal daylight left,, which aided them immensly in the thick forests!!) and 6 hr something, respectively. I imagine that Summit slowed down quite a bit when darkness hit. Strongbadia got 13cps and Wicked got 12. the rest of teh teams went for the easy controls that were mostly on 1 side of the map.

now to pick up controls...that will be Monday.

Friday Jul 18

Mtn Biking 1:00:00 [3]
K and I went to Oak Hill to pre-ride teh xterra course. 1 loop is about 9km i think, and the race will do it twice. (Nice having a course so close to home that we can do this!) Not marked very well at all, so we spent a lot of time backtracking to the correct trail(s) so we could ride the correct course. Still think we messed up a bit. But it was a good muddy ride. Then a quick dip in the pond, then raced over to the RA 24 headquarters to begin that whole adventure.

Thursday Jul 17

Orienteering 1:14:00 [3] ***
ahr:136 max:165
Setting out the rest of the controls. Tired today, couldn't run the hills and lacked motivation to be out in the woods. Thirsty and hot. I hope teams don't get too lost and frustrated out here...

Wednesday Jul 16

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] ***
ahr:147 max:174
Setting out more controls for the 24's orienteering section.

Tuesday Jul 15

Orienteering 1:50:00 [2] ****
ahr:120 max:160
Setting out controls for the 24. adding night-o controls to the ones we set yesterday.

Monday Jul 14

Running 41:04 [4] 8.3 km (4:57 / km)
ahr:167 max:180
Run down to the rail trail, along and back up County Rd. Fast! Felt good to crank on the rail trail and then push the hills on the way back up. And days after...i'm not even sore. love it.
Spinning bike 38:00 [3]
ahr:150 max:165
Legs were a bit tired i think. I had the setting at the easiest it would go and I *still* couldn't get my cadence up past 100 without having to concentrate on it.

Sunday Jul 13

Note
(rest day)
Did nothing but paint a bureau and a desk that I had in college, lent to Greta, and got back the other weekend when she headed west. Painting is seemingly easy, but by the end of the day, i was sore. (as in bones from sitting on the floor crunched over..)

Saturday Jul 12

Mtn Biking 1:45:00 [3]
ahr:154 max:172
Went to check out some new trails at Coyote Hill, a private land owner who loves mtn biking hosts a mountain bike camp for kids throughout the summer on his land. THe guy wasn't there, but we found the trails ok anyway. Will be cool to ride when we get to tknow the area better, rather than guessing which way to go all the time.

Thursday Jul 10

Run/Hike (Mt Osceola east summit) 1:15:00 [4]
ahr:154 max:176
Kristoffer had a soccer game in Lincoln, NH so I decided to go with him and go for a run in the mountains with Loki. Surprisingingly I didn't find any shortish trails (that would take me about 1.5hrs of soccer game time) so I settled on the Greeley Ponds Tr to the east summit of Mt Osceola. It was a flattish trail (rough rocky and rooty though...not terribly fun running) but then went straight up off of Greeley ponds tr. Like climbing a ladder with enormous steps. We didn't make it to the summit (which is apparently wooded anyway) but we did reach a view poitn at 46 mins into the run and with no site of the summit I decided to call it good and we headed back down, jumping down the steps that we worked so hard to just get up...
Legs felt decently strong and my new shoes are starting to fit a bit better. (less sloppy) overall good run, just so nice to be in the mountains!!!
Saw 1 moose, 1 hawk. no bears. though there were perfect woods for bears...
C • schedule 12

Wednesday Jul 9

Running (Daniels loop) 59:00 [4]
ahr:165 max:182
Hot, muggy, felt slow in the beginning, loosened up, was powering up the hills pretty well until the last final looooonnnggg uphill where i saw some raspberries and had to take a harvesting break. oh darn delicious harvesting break... ;o) still made it back under an hour (same as the last time we ran this a week or so ago in the opposite direction.)

Tuesday Jul 8

Ultimate 1:30:00 [3]
cooler to run than sit on the sidelines.

Monday Jul 7

Running 46:47 [3]
ahr:154 max:180
railroad loop w/ K and L. hot, humid...nothing new.
heartrate seemed low, perhaps due to takin gthe last few days off and the straight up hill to the end felt much "easier" than previous runs so that's a good sign!
I tried mapping out our running routes here: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0...

Saturday Jul 5

Note
(rest day)
This weekend was the opposite of last. No training, but instead we started waterproofing our house, which, by the way, takes a freakin' long time. Especially when it wasn't done very well (or at all on this one side) last time, so you have to scrub off the mildew/waterstains/old stain. my body feels quite fatigued even though we didn't train! We'll go for a run monday.

Thursday Jul 3

Ultimate 1:00:00 [4]

Tuesday Jul 1

Ultimate 2:00:00 [3]
Lost both games.. hot hot muggy day...swimming through the air. sweating when standing still, not to mention moving.
