Note

Went strawberry picking with Kelly and Diana in the morning. Then spent the afternoon wrapping up the chicken coop. Those birds are getting too big for the house. for real. Still waiting on just a few more things.. then they can move in!
Turned out to be a really nice day but not motivating enough to get out for a run.

Running race 48:00 [4] 5.2 mi (9:14 / mi)

Western NH Trail Race Series #1 - Six (or 5) in the Stix
Bad bad race. Head not into. Went out too hard. Legs weren't there. Died on the hills. Wanted to walk and rest and then run again waaay too often (not that I did, but I wanted to.) Didn't know the course well enough and spent the whole 2nd half (which was nearly all downhill) expecting a big uphill before the finish. Turns out there was only the ski jump to hike up so I could've pushed the 2nd half a hell of a lot more.
Blech. No maple syrup for me.
The race was supposed to be 6 miles, i thought, but my mom's garmin said 5.2. ?

Running (LT Intervals) 55:27 [4]
ahr:157 max:179

Rainy, grey day but there was no question that I wasn't going to go out for a run... I'm getting the hang of this training thing!
LT intervals were to be 4x(4' on, 3' off)
Headed out with Loki down to the rail trail to run these on gravel, figured if I wasn't going to run them in the woods, gravel trail with semi-uneven footing was better than pavement. 18' warmup with some running drills, lunge walks (to attempt to work out the soreness from Tuesday's lunge-walks) and rototillers and skips and these high bounding things that I've been doing which seem to be helping.
Tried to start out slow on the first to have plenty left for the end, but I'm not sure how I did. 1st was easy, 2nd was harder (hams started burning more, had to concentrate on keeping form more), 3rd was similar to 2nd but harder and the 4th actually, despite that I was tired, felt really quite good! Form stayed together well and I felt strong the whole time with good leg lift and pushing off etc. Running is coming together? (Still dreading the inevitable embarrassment of my 5k TT time!)

Running 1:03:00 [3]
ahr:153 max:171

Trail run in Burnt Mtn with Ken. Same loop as last time but backwards. Got there late and Ken had already headed out but left me instructions on the dashboard. I quickly changed and went out hoping that I could catch him but no. ended up meeting up a little more than halfway around the loop. Pushed the pace a bit in the beginning which felt good on my sore hams (too many lunge-walks yesterday). After meeting, we turned around and ran back my way at a bit slower pace this time due to the 'old man shuffle'. jk ;o) Next week we are planning on track workouts as an attempt to destroy this form. and bring some speed into our lives. should be good.

Running hills 1:05:00 [3]

Down to the rail trail, with Loki to help pace me up the hills. Planned to do 4x90s, 6x30s.
18' warmup along the rail trail doing some drills and strides
hills: 82s, 84, 88, 93 (was taking it 'easy' on the first one and the last one felt awfully tired and heavy.) Had 3' rest, including walking/stumbling back down.
Then extra 2'rest and 6x30s hills. Felt strong and quick on these and I even beat Loki up the last one! :) (To his credit, he did run at least twice as far on the first long hills.)
Felt strong still on the road home, or at least much much better than I did running home after hills last week.

Running long 1:45:00 [3] 18.4 km (5:42 / km)
ahr:151 max:171

Despite the rain and cold, I managed to get out for a long run today. Headed out down Brushwood, Rt25, up past the gun shop into town and then took a detour down to Bedell Bridge along the CT River and then home up County Rd. Going through town the sun broke out of the clouds and was quite a view overlooking the river and VT!
Felt great for the first hour and then things started falling apart. 1st the knee, then the toe, then the instep, then hip. Not all really at the same time, but here and there. Then I would try to shift to the other side of the road, gravel vs pavement, change up in the stride. All these things seemed to help. for a few minutes, then something else would start. :-/
Sucks gettin' old. Hopefully it's just that impact thing though.
;)
