Bjärka-Säby to Botorp, 2.5 hr distance run along Östergötlandsleden.

Started in one of only two ancient forests in Östergötlands. It was only a few hectares in size. Also, it was heavily affected by the intensive forestry right up to the boundary of the nature reserve. A number of trees in the nature reserve had blown down close to the reserve boundary, since the clear cutting in the neighbouring plot removed the screen protecting these old trees from storms. Also, thickets of young spruce from a neighbouring plantation encroached into the nature reserve.

Continued on home through nearly only managed forest. Two sections of the Östergötlands trail had to be re-routed due to clear-cutting, even through it is against Swedish forest management rules to destroy public trails.

All a bit sad really.
