Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 3.5 km (5:43 / km)
ahr:134

Orienteering race 44:27 [3] **** 5.5 km (8:05 / km)
ahr:148 spiked:18/21c

Orienteering Event, ORingen, Stage 4. Blew it on one control. A huge 7min parallel error... kept trying to relocate in the green scrap and didn't have a chance. Felt like giving up, but figured I should keep going for the sake of getting the total result for the week. That was ironic... because the following day...

Running warm up/down 11:00 [1] 2.1 km (5:14 / km)
ahr:132

Orienteering race 1:56:37 [3] **** 13.3 km (8:46 / km)
ahr:147 spiked:20/26c

Orienteering Event, ORingen, Stage 3, Sävsjö. As soon as there are some hills on the course I start losing time. I was 22:52 down on the winner (Thomas Carlsson). And I didn't really lose more time to mistakes than usual ('only' about 6min). Finished in 22 place.

Running warm up/down 18:30 [1] 3.1 km (5:58 / km)

Orienteering race 1:41:53 [3] **** 14.0 km (7:17 / km)
ahr:151 spiked:16/20c

Orienteering Event, ORingen, Stage 2, Nässjö.

Today went much better. Rather happy. Mostly stable and careful orienteering, but pushing a little where possible. I had a number of good split times (7 in the top10). I lost a bit of time on
four controls. For three, not more than 30sec to max 1min each. And then came the second last control. I thought I was in control, and I missed it by less than 50m. Read myself in again in the wrong place, and ran off the wrong direction. Lost about 2:30min on this one... Another reminder that it is better to go very slow sometimes. I finished 12th, 12:07min down on Johan Ivarsson, which makes me wonder, where did all the good guys in H21E go this year?

Now it's time to rest up for tomorrow's early start, and the third 14km race in as many days.

Running warm up/down 11:00 [1] 2.2 km (5:00 / km)

Orienteering Race, ORingen, Stage 1. Tranås.

Damn it, damn it, damn it! Was running pretty well until the last 1.5km or so. Looked at my watch, looked at the map and figured I had 12-15min to go. I finished 22min later, after losing a minimum of 8 minutes. I lost nearly 6min on one control - not normally something I do. There were two problems:
1. The first 90min were navigationally unchallenging, so I wasn't prepared to slow down and focus when we came onto the detailed ridge for the final 1.5km of the course.
2. An area that would typically be marked as semi-open was marked as white, which I was totally unprepared for. I spent 5min ranging back and forth in taller forest, in completely the wrong place. I hate this sort of mapping - though technically probably correct, it is very confusing, and not what one expects.

I should have been better prepared for the change in navigation style required for the last bit of the course. Definitely would have been worthwhile slowing down and focussing on the map.

I finished 18:44min down on the winner. Pity - it could have been so much better. I guess, on the brighter side, in previous years I would have been relatively happy finishing within 20min of the leader.

My GPS measured that I did 17.5km...

Note

Took 3 rest days this week... felt like it.
