Running warm up/down (Road/XC) 27:45 [2] 4.8 km (5:47 / km) +110m 5:11 / km

Running hills (XC) 10:52 [5] 2.44 km (4:27 / km) +250m 2:57 / km

2*5.5*1:00/1:30r. On the zig-zags next to the (currently for sale) famous Sleddale Hall. Recoveries were long and spent standing still in order to get the heart rate down as far as poss and so energy systems are fully restored (oooh controversial!). Put a little bit more effort in on the second set...

1) 5:31
2) 5:21

Running hills (XC) 7:45 [1] 1.22 km (6:21 / km)

Slow jog back down to the bottom in between sets.

Running warm up/down (XC/Road) 33:45 [1] 5.4 km (6:15 / km) +45m 6:00 / km

Really nice running at this slow recovery pace - can proper enjoy the views. Shame today was foggy. Innit funny how some farmers still give you a strange look when running thru their smelly yard even tho it's a public bridleway. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Maybe it's the lycra tights.

Orienteering race (Open Moorland) 1:23:45 [4] **** 9.7 km (8:38 / km) +300m 7:29 / km
spiked:15/20c

Penistone Country Park & Haworth Moor. Went out fast - maybe shouldn't have considering how tired I was expecting to be but wanted to test myself. First 6 were good in the complex bits of Penistone at this point 3rd, 30secs down on Frodo and 30secs in front of Charlie and Steve Watkins. Then totally messed up 7 overshooting and losing approx 3:30. Bad ruff compass/parallel error on a vague reentrant shape on 9 lost 6mins almost hitting 10 first and then 30secs on 10 itself tired of uphill thru the moor taking the road (too far) instead. After that the next few into the wind, thru some really quite tuff moorland being able to see the shape of the land from 100's of metres away - very uninteresting from a technical perspective. Battling thru the tiredness was taxing here and felt like retiring. Lost a min on 14 ignoring the shape of the land then ok (shudda gone str8 on 17 - 15secs?) and very disappointing to not utilise the most complex bit once back into the park - an easy run around the path to an obvious reentrant. A (mostly) shit area made worse by the planning - wudda much rather been at the HH event fo sho.

Magic is an orienteering God - I am secretly hoping he took the whole week off, made no mistakes at all and that his time (<59mins) was world-class i.e. even Hubmann wouldn't have done much better.

Running (Road/XC/Terrain) 42:00 [1] 6.6 km (6:22 / km) +95m 5:56 / km

Shap. Active recovery with Alan and Sarah. Was so tired today felt like I was putting in so much effort to jog quite slowly.

Running (Road/XC/Terrain) 26:00 [2] 3.85 km (6:45 / km) +150m 5:39 / km

Shap - Swindale SE (06/08/06 Finish).

Orienteering (Open Fell) 1:39:15 [2] **** 10.8 km (9:11 / km) +360m 7:53 / km
spiked:14/20c

Swindale SE. Ran the same course again as Wednesday but this time backwards and at night evaluating whether to buy a head torch like Alan's. It's a controversial choice being one primarily designed for the entertainment industry rather than any particular sport. There certainly wasn't any problem with the range but it took a few controls to get used to what part of the beam to look at the map with. Didn't bother with changing the beam strength at any point tho so maybe that would be better for analysing the more detailed areas of a map. These head torches are just the j o business take my word for it. Cheaper (£160 for torch/batt/charger), lighter, lasts for much longer (5 hours on max beam) and charges very quick.

You'd think seeing as I'd been to all these control features very recently it wudda been a lot easier. Defo need more practice at this...

19. Got a bit insecure before the circle started thinking was left or right when was bang on. Do this in the day as well a weakness of mine - a consequence of not knowing 100% exactly where I am, shudda judged the distance better and been more aware of the features before the cirlce.
18. Again not knowing 100% where I'd come from relocated wrongly thinking drifted right when was bang on line. Lost loadsa time here trying to relocate afterwards. Remember thinking on Tues the detail was a bit weird around this one.
17. Took a different route to this one from udder day. Much better actually. Again knew exactly where I was on the approach but forgot nearing the circle.
14. Having not enuff of a plan cost me here. Missed left.
10. Big mistake. Let the shape of the land take me off line, assumed it was a certain hill and didn't check the compass.
9. Lost a bit of time here making sure I was in the right place, I was - bottoms.
3. On a roll and running a bit faster. Not paying attention concluded I was further on than actually was. Relocated quickly off a big reentrant.

It's not all bad tho spiked almost all of the difficult legs including 8 where I realised wasn't in the right place on Tues! Spike rate duly reduced! Wasn't going as fast for a lot of other (than it was night) reasons - a bit tired and didn't want to hurt myself, 50m more climb going backwards and as it happened I really hadn't eaten enuff - 9 hrs since lunch by the time finished!

Walking (Terrain/XC/Road) 36:45 [1] 4.45 km (8:16 / km) +45m 7:52 / km

Did actually jog down to the road (very slowly!) but walked from there - was proper giddy. Fortunately had a caramel Rocky bar to sort it - mmm.
