Multi-Day Training Day 42, Järla middle Flaten, H21 4.9km (30/41)

A good race, tired on the hills but otherwise physically ok, lost 30 seconds on 7 - nothing worse than that.

It seems like I am coming through these left hip-flexor and gluteus niggles, the physical side of the orienteering much more automated in comparison to Wednesday. I was looking at the map regularly and actually planning routes today!

I do think that the stretching/massage is simply a quick fix however, having longer, less tight muscles just reduces the symptoms of the underlying problem. I'll certainly take that as a good solution if it means, like the evidence suggests, that I can train as much as I want to and enjoy my orienteering but I should definitely try to fit in some core coordination/strength sessions.

Lovely weather, left-side working reasonably, happy with the times especially on the last of 3 fairly intensive sessions in 3 days. Happy enough to add a comparison even...

Note
weight:88.4kg

It seems I have finally managed to drop a few kilos, it would be nice if I could get under 83kg by the O-Ringen.

Running (road/xc) 29:10 [3] 6.0 km (4:52 / km)
ahr:159 max:167 shoes: inov-8 x-talon 190

Multi-Day Training Day 40, short trail route, steady-hard.

A strange thing happened this morning, I got out of bed with no hip-flexor pain whatsoever. Not even a dull ache. Weird, last night it was aching a lot, thought it was going to turn into a serious problem, got all depressed etc.

I did try to massage my hips/glutes a bit last night, not rolling on the medicine ball but ad-hoc style just with my fists. I do seem to remember a similar miraculous recovery back in 2009 where I had a hip massage from a friend just before the test races in FOD. Not sure that it wasn't just a coincidence but something to try again in the future for sure.

Anyway went out for a proper test, a trail run. Not a perfect feeling in my left-side by any means but such a contrast from yesterday. Also took the chance to wear in my new Inov8 190s as my last pair of Swoops are looking a bit weary. I like!

Running warm up/down (xc) 8:30 [2] 1.4 km (6:04 / km)
ahr:143 max:155

Orienteering race (forest) 52:51 [4] 6.9 km (7:40 / km)
ahr:160 max:170

Multi-Day Training Day 39, LL event, 5.9km (8/14)

Not a great race, several small-medium mistakes - found it hard to concentrate on what I was doing. Had left-side problems throughout, both glute and hip-flexor. Felt very uncoordinated, I really should have done some stretching the last couple of days. Did manage to enjoy myself at times, an interesting course, good area and great weather.
