17/18 Ranking Event 4, Järfällla OK long Skråmstalund, H40 6.7km (12/21)

Woke up feeling pretty similar to Saturday morning, some kind of strangeness but mostly just ok. Decided to run regardless of the slight cold but at a lower intesity - an interesting experiment to see if I could hold my concentration on the nav and whether or not I could actually enjoy myself. Both fairly important aspects that were missing in varying degrees yesterday.

I appreciate it doesn't look like much of a difference, an average HR of 162 compared to yesterday's 165 but the first half was more like 160 vs 170 and it had the desired effect - less mistakes and more enjoyment during, more satisfaction after.

Last week I was thinking that running at maximum was probably the way forward, bearing in mind that I'm not losing buckets of time that way and it's good training. This week I am thinking that it can not only sacrifice a cleaner run but also some of the enjoyment. Especially when one considers illness and less than optimal amounts of sleep it may be a better strategy to pick and choose a bit more i.e. race more often at a less than maximum intensity and instead do more full intesity work in training, both physically and technically.

17/18 Ranking Event 3, Väsby OK middle Skråmstalund, H21 5.2km (29/47)

Important race today, well, more than usual. H21 club selection for next Sunday's relay champs. Not that I had any chance of getting into the first team, those unofficially pre-selected weren't even running H21, two weren't even there today. Instead a chance to make sure I wouldn't get dropped down into any potential 3rd team or a H120 team (heaven forbid, it's not like I am H40 :).

Not a great race. I made mistakes at 1, 4 and 6, after that I realised that I did in fact have a slight cold and couldn't maintain the effort. I'm not sure if it was the same cold I quickly fought off earlier this week or a completely new one (Hugo has in fact caught another). However I will just assume it is the same one, it's much too early in the Autumn/Winter to be counting 2 colds already. Otherwise I would have no chance of doing better than last year.

So not the best, 3.5mins time loss and unable to run the whole race at maximum. Unsurprisingly I didn't really enjoy myself either. I did however manage to beat the other 2 Söders runners so job done.

Strange, I honestly feel like I could run today. A 1 day cold, that's a new one. I'll take it.

Be safe, if everything feels good tomorrow go for a jog to loosen up a bit before the races at the weekend.

A cold, of course. Youngest and middle sons both became ill towards the end of last week. One day at home with the youngest off school on Monday, long run, less than optimal amounts of sleep, you know the rest.

Ran down the main road to Vendelsö (not a pleasant experience even at 18:15) in order to meet up with a guy from work who may well start running regularly with Christian and I on Monday evenings. Not an orienteer so we took one of the o maps I'd previously given him of the Tyresta-Vendelsö forests and ran a 5.5km route that I'd designed. Hopefully he'll be a bit more brave now and design some of his own routes, maybe run a bit less on the main road (see above comment).

Due to a combination of a severe reluctance to run back up the main road (see above comment) and the fact that I'm running the 30km Lidingo trail race in 4 weeks time I ran back home the long way through the forest. Got a bit lost and ran off the trails which normally would have been fine but the worry of including so much tarmac in the eariler part of the run destroying my Inov8 190s made me choose my road running trainers. Needless to say they didn't work so well in the marshes.
