So I took the front hub apart, a fair bit of rust on one side so followed my Brother's advice and cleaned it up best I could, regreased it and put it back together again. I also changed the tyres to Summer thins - no point wearing out my fats when I'm not really doing much technical stuff. Lastly I screwed back down the bottle cage (that sorted one of the rattles!) and oiled up the bell lever (really, really important to have a working bell when turfing so much).

The chainset work will have to wait, not sure if I can actually change the top ring without a special tool and even less sure I can do it without removing the crank (which I would need another special tool for).

This work really improved things! Still annoying having to do all my acceleration on the bottom ring but I can live with that for the moment.

The joy didn't last long however as the my left knee got a bit painful, my thumb got a bit painful AND I snapped a rear wheel spoke - I really hope this is an isolated incident!

Note

Very interesting today when I woke up - there was almost no inflammation in my ankle. Tendons usually invisible were obvious with big crevices opening up next to them when moving my foot around. Almost like the other foot!

Gone was the swelling on the outside between the achilles and peroneal tendons and almost gone was the swelling on the inside of the achilles.

Apparently this is good news - if the swelled areas do indeed decrease in size then it is still inflammation rather than degeneration. I have had a dramatically decreased step count these last few days (plus one or two ibuprofens), recovering from that Moderna shot so it makes sense that the inflammation has gone down.

However this obviously does not mean that the reason for the inflammation has gone away - walked a few kms and stood for a while watching Hugo play football and had intermittent pain in achilles and peroneal tendons.

I was a little tired from the increased volume last week but thought it best to get out and do something today (regardless of the absolute mess my bike is in), before...

Note
(sick)

About 2 days after catching omicron I got offered my 3rd dose so naturally I left it as late as I could before the 3 month-long offer expired - went and got myself stabbed at 15:00 earlier today.

Even though I actually wanted Moderna for my 3rd dose (having had Pfizer both 1st and 2nd) I did understand that that might come with a few more issues. Understatement! By bedtime I was in a right state!
