Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8: Roclite 285's

Orienteering race (South Is. Champs Middle) 39:36 [4] ***** 3.35 km (11:49 / km) +270m 8:26 / km
shoes: Inov8: Roclite 285's

This was an intense course. Flock Hill is such an awesome map but it's pretty bloody hard too. Unfortunately i couldn't emulate my past few performances of the weekend and i ended up getting 12th= with Matt Scott, would've been 13th if it wasn't for James' encouragement at the end. My run itself wasn't good enough because i could get to the circle ok but i'd waste lots of time in the circle by not being exactly sure where i was and searching in the rocks 20m from where the control was. This happened on 1, 8, 9, 10 and i wasn't even in the circle when i fucked up 6 big time. I just found it hard to relocate amongst all the rocks. In hindsight i should've used the contours more, it would have helped a lot on 6. My result was what i deserved and shows me that i still have a long way to go technically.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

Orienteering race (South Is. Champs Long) 1:26:39 [5] *** 11.9 km (7:17 / km) +490m 6:02 / km
shoes: Inov8: Roclite 285's

Looking back over my course i guess i did actually have a pretty good run, it just didn't feel like it at the time. Having run on Dalethorpe before helped quite a lot. But my run was pretty bloody clean except for no.19 and small (less than 10s) errors on 11, 15, 23. I was really happy with my bearings and how i used my compass in general and also being able to maintain a height on hillsides came in handy. Got a bleeding nose on the way to 14 which made me lose focus a bit and cost me at least 2mins to others over the few legs up until about control 16-17 where i got caught by Carsten. So i ran with him to 18 where he screwed up and i got away with Mark who i'd just caught only to make a mess of the next control. But from then on i was good, got away from Mark on route choice to 21 then Carsten caught me again at 23 and pretty much led me through the last few and he got away at the end. Physically i felt awesome! Especially near the end of the course when i was around Mark and Carsten and i could really thrash myself trying to keep up or get away from them. Running with those guys has stepped up my game hugely in the last 2 weeks. Just can't wait for QB weekend for some more full on racing! Oh, got 2nd in M21E

Before/after both races

Strenght and Conditioning 20:00 [1]

Orienteering race (South Is. Champs Sprint) 15:52 [5] **** 2.6 km (6:06 / km) +70m 5:23 / km
shoes: Inov8: Roclite 285's

They were right, it was the sandiest sprint i'd ever done. IT was held on the sand dunes of Leithfield Beach South. I started well and was hitting all the controls cleanly and only could've gone faster by reading ahead more so i wouldn't waste time making decisions when exiting controls. Started to fade a bit near the end which isn't normal for me, think it must've been running on the sand. Made a mess of 14 by overshooting it and running to a similar control about 50m past my one. Should've focused more and not just run blindly to the control cos it looked good. Probably lost 30secs all up. So annoyed to be so close to 4th with James and Mark both 2secs infront. Ended up 6th as it was but at least i beat Neil (by 1sec) haha

Orienteering race (ANZAC Night Mass Start) 1:07:55 [4] **** 9.7 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8: Roclite 285's

This was such a fun race! Started off at a crazy pace and i just managed to hang on to a few elites who dragged me through the first few controls but then ended up finding myself alone fairly soon. I tried to use a lot of compass and tracks as the contour was often too small to go off. Ended up making a few stupid mistakes on my first loop, two of them by getting distracted by Mark and Neil when i would've been sweet if i'd just gone with what i'd thought rather than get dragged away by them. My second loop was a bit better but still pretty shocking so i was really surprised to be coming near the end of the course and find myself around Neil, Mark, James, Tane and others. So it pretty much ended up being a running race to the end which i managed to do alright in only behind Tane from the big group. Ended up 4th which i couldn't believe after having such a shit run, just turned out that everyone else was shit too...

Strenght and Conditioning 10:00 [2]

Soccer (School Trials) 50:00 [4]

After warming up it was basically a game of attack vs defence. We started getting really good defending as a unit nearer the end after getting smoked at the start. Really happy with my skills at the moment, this years gonna be good for school soccer
