I opted to take it easy this morning and did the easy course with Aoife, Lily and Nadine. 3 of us had fun, Aoife apparently had the "worst day of my life so far". I think she rode well, especially in the mud with skinny tyres and no suspension. Too bad about the downpour that started just was we got to the last control. Drowned rats by the time we finished! I think the girls enjoyed that bit the most, all I could think of was that I now had no dry clothes for the afternoon.

Lily is so dead keen on riding, it was great to see. We had to call her back quite a few times as she tore off without a clue where we were heading :)

Middle distance race at Pelaw Main. Great area and good fun. I was 10 min behind Carolyn this time. Time lost at 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 for various reasons. Most significant was 4 when I turned the wrong way for some stupid reason and 6 where I could not see the track leading to the control which was not far off the main track. Thought I took a poor route to 8, it was easier riding but I think slow through the detailed section to get the right tracks. Rode well from there to the finish.

Quite happy to get away with not embarrassing myself too much today. After a busy morning with packing, swimming and netball we arrived at the event in the rain and it was quite muddy and slippery on the course. Managed to only fall of a few times and they were into very soft bog so no injuries. Made a few poor route choices that cost me more than they should have and made a bad mistake on the way to the second last control, it didn't cost me 3rd place but put me a lot further behind than I could have been. Still, was only 14:30 behind Carolyn which is very good for me, I doubt she was having a great day. Good area, good course and well mapped apart from the missing contour showing the mountain top at number 9 :)

Glad to finish as had been contemplating pulling out before half way with sore back. Very sore afterwards.

Just saw splits and they look ok, except for:
1 I started the wrong way but most time loss was stopping to reattach map board (amateur hour!),
6 bad route choice (compounded by traffic heading other way on single track),
9 poor route involving climbing unmapped mountain,
11 was just me being slow up hill,
14 VERY bad route choice due to not reading map - I just saw a big pink blur and assumed it was a crossing point when in fact is was pink Xs,
21 I thought I took the fast way but missed the turn (3 times!),
22 fell off in the mud and took a while to extract myself
24 bad route avoiding hill and extremely poor execution (amateur hour #2)
