Walk 2:51:28 [3] 9.01 km (19:02 / km) +565m 14:29 / km

Fantastic walk and so glad we were able to do it. I was a bit put off by potential crowds but they really weren’t that annoying (especially given our earlyish start time). We were on a schedule to get back to Stavanger for a plane and made it well within time...

The walk itself was beautiful, being in forest for the most part and then across exposed granite up higher. Aoife has definitely recovered, out walking us and no apparent after effects :)

Did one geocache up the top and abandoned another excursion as it started looking like taking a while.

Much better today in far easier terrain. It was spectacular, and my early mistakes were really just due to me looking around and admiring the place instead of watching where I was going...

Stopped quite a few times trying to find some ripe cloudberries, but they were all inedible. I took a long time to give up on that pursuit. It would be feasting time here in a few weeks :)

Looking forward to going back tomorrow, I was wishing for the camera just walking to the start today. Might think about taking it with me tomorrow, but not sure I can cope with another distraction :).

Oh dear, another shocker. I really should have done better today. The course suited me but I took to long to get my act together. Great area to run in.

A bit sad it’s all over, I would have liked to do today again (but properly!).

Walk 1:17:24 [3] 2.44 km (31:40 / km) +187m 22:55 / km

Tried to climb the mountain across from our accommodation before breakfast. Left it a bit late after not the greatest of nights. Made it to the waterfall, quite spectacular and that was about enough for me. It was a bit steep to be up there alone... I had a nice (brief) dip in a pool at the bottom of a section of falls, refreshing! Also had to wade across the river at the bottom on the way there and back. That sure numbed my feet!

After the mush of Skudeneshavn, it certainly is very dry up here. The falls are amazing still though!

shoes: VJ Irock 2

I wish I could say I was better today than yesterday, but I can’t! When I get it right, I do it well. When I don’t it’s a disaster.

Lowlight of today was bumbling around near a power line for about 10 minutes thinking how life would be so much better if they’d put it on the map. Then realising it was on the map, about 300m east of where I thought I was :(
3 PM

Swim 1:00 [3] 0.02 km (41:40 / km)

A brief dip in the North Sea. My first time in there.
Did not put head under, with gale force winds and -14degrees that would have been crazy.

Very happy to get out on the map today, not happy with my run. I knew I was going well up to 3, and also knew that as soon as I thought that, trouble was brewing, and so it did. Lost a heap of time (13 minutes!) and confidence on 4, then more on 6, and I thought 7. For 7, I wasn't that much slower than Eoin and he was OK compared to the winners of my class. Could definitely have finished in much less time if I had not stuffed 4.

We have been stuck in Oslo, with Aoife sick virtually since we left Adelaide. We took it easy Saturday and Sunday, but not enough. After a bit of a scary night on Sunday, Eoin went out and found a Dr in the local (city) shopping centre who saw us within a couple of hours. A very thorough examination, instructions to stay in Oslo and daily blood tests ensued. So the planned holiday schedule was suspended again, pending improvement. Aoife was less feverish and appeared better yesterday, but the blood test was worse (apparently that's normal after the fever drops!) and she crashed when we tried an afternoon outing. By this morning, there was a slight improvement in the test and though the nurse was keen we stay in Oslo she Ok'd leaving but come back if necessary. We quickly booked a flight to Haugesund, arranged a hire car and made it to the event right on time. It was a rush to get to the start and I had to go straight to the maps, but all good!

Now we just have to get her to eat, recover and rebuild some strength and stamina.
