Flattened by some throat bug.

Cycling (Commute) 1:20:00 [3]

Rode from Malga due to time constraints. With bike on/off car it probably isnt much quicker, and hence is more about subconciously being a slack-arse.

Bit tired after headed to Lowenbrau with Guenter & his kraut mates to watch the football last night. Place over-run by ze germans (unsuprisingly). Fun times - felt like I was back in Munich. Rendition of Anton aus Tirol was impressive.

Kayak (Pipeline) 49:30 [3]
shoes: Nelo Vanquish

Steady pipeline. Thought I might be a bit wobbly with not much paddling lately, but went OK. Need to pull the finger out to avoid regressing to runner's torso.

Katrin's roadie stolen from the van at Warringah Mall. Fingers crossed on insurance, but very not happy right now.

Cycling (Commutervals) 55:00 [3]

4x4min efforts. Roseville bridge to boundary St, willoughny hill to edinbourough rd, tunks to miller St, hrbr bridge.

Struggled. Not going well at intensity at the moment. Wonder if it's due to lack of intensity training this year, or lack of sleep this week.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Struggled home.

Note

Went to see Cat Stevens. F*ck I'm old.

Cycling (Commute) 55:00 [3]

Subthreshold strength-endurance tempo session.

A.k.a. - late for a meeting, so better hurry ride.

Cycling (Andy Hill Commute) 55:00 [3]

Looong day in the office. Rode home at 1am, purely so I could log that I rode home at 1am.

Dinner was a bag of Allen's Party Mix, a Caramello Koala & a packet of Honey Soy Kettle Chips. Not ideal.

Running 5:48:00 [3]

Paddy Pallin rogaine with FatRat, Andy & Steveo. Hopefully one of them writes a report so I dont have to. Fun day out.

Damn. Outstalled by fatrat in writing a report, so here goes.

The good thing about the Paddy Pallin this year was that it was nice and close to home, with a short morning drive up to Girrakool Scout Camp at Kariong. The bad thing about the Paddy Pallin this year was that it was nice and close to home - in nice thick Sydney bush. And unfortunately the local scouts must be too well behaved to explore their inner-arsonist. Did I mention it was thick?

Reasonably quick consensus between the 4 of us on route planning - short 'Preston-Hill' loop near the start to ensure we werent breaking all the trails, long loop down to the south, then spend the time left over collecting all the tight concenration of CPs spread around the Great North Walk near the finish.

Rough expectations of how far we would get were trimmed back in the first 5 minutes when the 'track' we headed off on was probably slower going than the surrounding bush. Things improved after about 20 minutes, and the next couple of hours was running along quite nice tracks with the occasional dive in to the bush to get a cp. Navigation in a group of 4 worked well - in depth discussions analysing the socceroos chances of making it to the round of 16 interrupted occassionally by someone saying "um, i think there's a checkpoint in there". Made respectably good time down to the bottom of the map.

Then off in to the bush to collect the 100 pointers. Slow couple of hours of slog thru' crap with the occassional pretty rainforest type stuff showing up (at which point I couldnt help watching out for stinging trees). Pace got a bit ploddy through here, but no major problems navigation-wise.

Snapped out of our lethargy at about 4hrs, when we met Glenn's team who looked like they were in a hurry and being serious. Quick tribal-council meeting, and we decided to drop the remaining CP's in the crap, and head north on the trail to clean up the checkpoints around the Great North Walk.

Cranked up the pace, and found ourselves quickly in a much nicer section of bush and some fun fun trotting around the GNW. 5 minute mistake @ #45 near the river. Doh. Had considered doing the swim across the river to #39, but that idea quickly dropped due to the very unnatural lime-green colour of the water - it did not look healthy in there.

Headed back in to the bush for the last time to get #60, but after that back on tracks and relatively easy to estimate that we wouldn't need to kill ourselves to get back in time. Had been clever to do this section last, as there were nice little tracks in to the CP's from those that had gone before.

Arrived at the finish 10 minutes early, and straight in to the sausage queue. Excellent manouvre, as we sat 10 minutes later eating our sausages while the queue instantly grew to about 300 people.

Finished on 1670 points in 2nd, 50 behind first. Were 50 points within 15 minutes off the finish that we'd left out, so not far off.

Fun day out. Took quite a lot of photos on the course, but cant find the cable to download them.

Note

U12 Softball, U7 rugby, Yum Cha, Wallabies.

Nice way to spend the ol' b'day, moving deep in to the late 30's. Gonna be knackered for the rogaine tomorrow though.

Cycling (Commute) 1:45:00 [3]

To and from work. Nice ride in at lunchtime. Less nice ride home in the evening. Cruisy all round.

Bit of a scratchy throat and feeling run down.

Thursday Jun 17, 2010 #

Note

Planned to go for a lunchtime run, but ate Nando's chicken instead. How good is the extra hot sauce.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Early start. Quite enjoyed the cold, crisp air. Even with the numb ears across Roseville Bridge.

Forgot to turn on the espresso machine when I got up, and had to leave uncaffeined. Gutted.

Cycling (Commutervals) 55:00 [3]

10 min w.u then efforts for 8,8,11 min on 4-8 min recovery.
Kirribilli lights to golf course
miller St to mowbray
bp to crown of the hill.
Riding like someone that hasn't done intervals for a long time. Col du Montpelier hurt.

Cycling (Easy commute) 55:00 [3]

Commuting lesson #352. If you take the bus to work and ride home, dont wear your big bulky leather jacket to work.

Running 1:26:00 [3]

Loop in the Manly Dam neighbourhood. Not a bad loop, might make it a regular. First 5km of the Nosh, past the ol' Bluett household, across the golf course, then up the walking track thru' the middle of the Dam reserve.

Moving not too badly. Beaudiful day out there.

Running 1:42:00 [3] 17.6 km (5:48 / km)

The intention was just to kill some time while waiting for Annika at softball training, but ended up somewhat suprisingly as a really nice run.

Headed off from Curl Curl oval with vague plans to head towards Manly. Down the beach, then around the headland boardwalk. Paused to watch the cranking surf (and rock fisherman tempting fate), then down across the sand at Freshie and over headland to Manly and thru' to Shelley Beach.

Then thru' the hole in the wall and explored North Head. Would be a great place for an o event. Has it been mapped yet? Tooled around a bit then back to Curly (ending up in the middle of the 'soft sand classic' race on Manly beach for a moment).

Most enjoyable morning.

Kayak 55:00 [3]
shoes: Nelo Vanquish

Pipeline. 12min w.u then 30/60/90/120/150 ladder on even recovery, cruised a bit, then reverse on the way home.

Oh dear, paddled like a runner.

Then off to run the u7 rugby team. Almost loggable.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Pfaffed around at home then easy ride in to town with Katrin at about 11.

As I went past a group of kids walking from the ova backl to the school, I heard a little voice in the middle say, "Hey, that's Annika's dad.". Made sure I was out of earshot before anyone had the chance to say "Shouldn't you be at work?"

Running 35:00 [3]

Bad case of the cbf's, but wandered out for an Opera house loop. First run post-XPD, and ironically bump in to and end up runing with XPD team-mate Hugh.

Katrin has decided to have a crack the 24Hr MTB Worlds in October. That pretty much defines the household sporting priorities for the next few months, although Im sure Thomas would say his quest to progress from yellow to blue belt is a much bigger deal.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Transport rather than training to/from physio for the post XPD service. Report card was good. Hips & legs in suprisingly good shape, but had a bit of 'backpack back'. Released spine with the old '1-2 please don't sue'.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

I try to live by the adage "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes", but that sure was some shitty clothing out there tonight.

Big gear interval up Roseville Hill to get warm.

Sunday Jun 6, 2010 #

Kayak 57:00 [3] 9.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Mako 6

Real winter morning. Chully wund, dirty water and weird currents all over the shop. Cruised to northbridge. A week in the sevylors hadmadea bit of a mess of the stroke.

Then knocked up a double shot and wandered down the hill to watch the nosh come past with Annika. Apart from the old man on the front, good to see most of the top 5 much closer in age to Annika than to me.

Then up to the oval for some throwing coaching with Annika. (as in me getting coached - 'your back hand's too low dad").

Friday Jun 4, 2010 #

Note

If this is what the weather in Sydney was like while we were in cairns - bwahaha.

No urge to ride in this weather. Run might be nice but cbf.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Back in the saddle. Felt a bit light-headed for the first 10 minutes, but then improved and enjoyed not being on the bus. Stinger-tree arms were tingling in the breeze like a nostalgic holiday souvenir. Felt a bit nude without 3 team-mates to ride with.

Thomas harassing mum to start riding to school again. Mum better unpack her bike.
