Cycling 45:00 [3]

Dashed home, taking the short cuts to reach a school concert.

Sat in said concert for 2 hours regretting i didnt grab a drink or food beforehand.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Rode the Yeti in from Malga for some Yeti love. The bottom bracket has never really recovered from Geoquest. Needs new bearings.

Conversation of the day:
Katrin at Pro Kayaks: "Hi, Im here to pick up my paddle that you've fixed"
Paddle shop guy: "Here you are. Nice paddle - what sort of paddling do you do".
Katrin: "None, really."
Paddle shop guy: "Umm, OK"

Note

Physio smash up. Been too long since last service. Stretching is good and all, but effects on its own are fairly insignificant compared to a good massage.

Running 1:35:00 [3]

Parenting tag team - almost . Ran from home down to Freshie, with plan that Katrin would run home after a surf. The storm hit while I was in the water with Tom, with Katrin deciding not to run home due to torrential rain and thunderstorm. Soft.

Thomas, wearing his new wetsuit, was happy to keep surfing while it rained - this mean't that I froze my nads off.

Good run - linked parks together from Manly Dam thru' to the beach, so very little bitumen.

Kayak 55:00 [3]
shoes: Viper K1

Pipeline spin on dusk. Rain had stopped, but river flowing dark brown with lots of crap in the water to catch on the bow. Cruised upstream then 10 * 30s on/off to return. Interesting that paddling cadence is right on 90 - same as cycling. Human resonance frequency?

Out of interest counted strokes rather than looking at watch - 45 on/35 off, finished the set in 9:52. Close.

Feeling pretty good paddling, but could just be because I'm wired on half a dozen weekend double shot espressos.

Met a pelican on the bank in Belrose. He must be lost.

Cycling 1:45:00 [3]

Evening cascades MTB loop. Pushed up Acron hill for the first time in about 3 years. 6:35 - I'm faster than 3 years ago. Respectively cruisy for the most part.

Friday Oct 23, 2009 #

Kayak 50:00 [3]
shoes: Viper K1

First outing in the K1 for a while - brought home by the fact that it was covered in red dust.

Gave the finger to the working world, by not getting up early headed out at 8am for a pipeline spin.

Easy, low cadence spin on shaving-mirror smooth water and a sunny 23 degree morning. Zen-like relaxing.

Pulled a respectable double shot espresso, then dawdelled off to work.

Gym 30:00 [3]

Short strength session on the way home.

Cycling 50:00 [3]

Cruised as easy as I could

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Late. Tired and hungry. Walked in the door to a fresh sandwich in the press, and booze on the table. Brownie points for the missus.

Cycling 50:00 [3]

Rode in, but cant remember much.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Too late, too dark, too tired, too hungry. Good htfu exercise.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Lunch run with some LMC intervals. First intervals for a while, and felt it - feeling heavy & slow - 2:35,2:41,2:39. A bit academic as next race has an 80hr winning time.

That reads like a NSW Stinger log entry.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Fartleky ride home. Pushed up Roseville bridge hill - tried to stay above 23k's. Popped before the top.

Had about 4 coffees for dinner grinder tuning (a couple decaf).

Race instructions for Dream Raid...

"Think  about  transparent  glasses  to  protect  your  eyes  from  small  birds  and  marine  animals  that  come and flirt with the light beam of your head torch. "

"About  the  prologue, only  mask,  flippers,  and  tuba  are  authorised:  not  wet  suites  (Lycra  is  possible),  no  paddles, no gas turbines... "

Glad we dont need to take the gas turbine, but tuba could hurt the baggage limits.

Cycling 50:00 [3]

Decent clip to town. Legs a bit tired on the ups. Hit the wall during the day, and took bus home instead.

Day 1 of new espresso machine. Similarities to getting a new K1 - bit shaky to start but soo much potential.

Sunday Oct 18, 2009 #

Kayak 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Fenn Elite Double

Pipeline with Katrin in the double. Reasonably cruisy paddle that finished with a set of 30s on/off. Boat was moving well.

Katrin commented that paddling intervals much more fun than just cruising. She is very ripe to be snagged as an ocean paddling recruit.

Adventure Race 3:40:00 [3]

AROC race @ Wyong with Prong & Hugh Stodart.

Too busy to write much, so Ill just go with 'Prong was impressive'. Nice prize stash again.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Post race ride back up at Ourimbah waiting for the preso.

Good cornering tips from Hugh - am leaning in the corners with upper body only, need to lean from the hips.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Snappyish Yeti ride home. Had to hustle to beat the dark - didnt have a front light.

Gym 1:00:00 [3]

Pretty good gym session, might hurt a bit tommorow.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Rode the Yeti in for some ARS-love (as the shop boys like to say).

Reasonably snappy. Planned to go to gym but never made it.

Tuesday Oct 13, 2009 #

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Morning river trot. Interesting to note that the duckings whose mum harassed me last spring, are still there - a large brood of proud adolescents.

Pretty average run. Bit stiff.

Monday Oct 12, 2009 #

Running 25:00 [3] 3.3 km (7:35 / km)

Milestone run this one. Asked Annika if she felt like a trot, and got a positive reply. First ever bona fide 'run' with the daughter.

I could have pointed out to her that I ran the City to Surf when I was a year younger than she is now (9), but dont think running long distances in littlies should be encouraged.

Sunday Oct 11, 2009 #

Running 1:15:00 [3]

Nosh track run before paddling. Quickish with some stretch stops & core drills. Didnt want to just do a blob run.

Kayak 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Mako 6

10*2min intervals. Mixed up paddle length a bit. First effort @ 211cm, then switched to 214. Split pretty much the same, but felt very different.

Saturday Oct 10, 2009 #

Cycling 2:45:00 [3]

Cruisy Akuna, Church Point, St Ives with Darvo and Alex.

Running 1:05:00 [3]

Trot down to Davo park and back,

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Absoutely slaughtered by freezing, windy, heavy rain storm. Usually live by the saying that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes. But without access to the box of wonder clothes, this ride truly sucked.

Thursday Oct 8, 2009 #

Gym 1:20:00 [3]

Longer gym session, but lots of stretching in there.

Amusing anecdote of the day was dropping my gym pass on the treadmill. It went under my foot and shot across the room (presumably at 15kmh), crashing in to the banana butt walking machine of a somewhat startled lass.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Rode back to Castle Cove. Blowing a gale. Combined the strong tailwind with a bus slip stream to cruise up the Miller st hill at 35km/h.

First time taking bus depot route for a while. Got drilled by the karma bird. Avalanche attack technique - 4 fly-bys each with solid hit to the helmet, but no ear biting (nip and tuck technique). Well played.

Wednesday Oct 7, 2009 #

Kayak 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Fenn Elite Double

Dropped the kids at holiday activities, hit the water with Katrin in the new double for a Northbridge loop, transition on to the bike to ride to town just in time for first meeting of the day. Slick!

Note to self: need to put non-skid on the ski's footboards. Super-slippery when wet. Otherwise, ski felt good. Runs better on the flat than the mark 2.

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]

Great ride with Damon and Fluer. Found some very nice Angry Doctor course bits. Did a few reps on one of the downhill sections with the big berms. Raining, but oh so fun.

Thanks again to LazyDave for raking the tracks.

Sunday Oct 4, 2009 #

Cycling 2:30:00 [3]

Cruisy MTB ride with Damon and Fleur from Bateman's Bay, finishing at Mogo zoo. Tag teamed with Katrin who then rode back to apartment.

Kayak 55:00 [3]
shoes: Mako 6

Very nice evening paddle in Bateman's Bay. Great spot between one of the islands and mainland where the swells sit up but dont dump.

Tried 211 paddle. Good for accelerating on to runs.

Cycling 50:00 [3]

Rode to work, but it seems a long time ago. No idea what I did.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Absolutely f*cked after work. Felt like I was hunger flatting, so stopped at 7-11 to fuel up. Plodded home.

Learned 2 things
1) In hindsight decided I was just worn out rather than hunger bonking
2) Summer Rolls are yummy. Need to add to the race food repetoire

Kayak 55:00 [3]
shoes: Sea Vanquish

Pipeline. Bewdiful morning, glassy water. Cruised upstream, then a set of 10*30s on/off return. Translates to 43strokes/35 rec to a suprising degree of consistency - stopped looking at watch and just counted instead.

Glad that next event requries some paddle training. Reminded again that getting out on the water is plain old fun.

Have pulled the plug on Japan run. Bit disappointed about that, but New Cal is looking like fun.
