Cycling 4:30:00 [3]

4 gorges. Would have been nice to start early, but couldnt go until kids were sorted for the morning which meant for a rather warm ride. Quite pleased to get around without too much trouble after what's basicalty been fitness maintenance training for the past couple of months.

Bit of a stop/start ride, catching 437 red lights on the way to berowra then a long ferry wait with the weekend traffic. Dilemma on reaching top of galston gorge - road sign said the gorge was closd 9-5 11-21st Jan. Turning around would mean a 6 hr ride, continuing on could potentially mean a 6hr ride plus an extra climb. Worked on the theory that road workers would be unlikely to be digging on a hot sunday morning, and sure enough got through.

Spent the afternoon killing redbacks in the back yard. I lost count of how many of the buggers we found along the pool fence. Funny what kids learn at school. Thomas was helpfully pointing out that they have exoskeletons.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Dam loop. First one in a while, hence cautious as you never know what's changed. Stopped for a chat wtih Matt de B who was teaching an MTB clinic. Most enjoyable. Strangely few bikes out.

Finished with a zip down middle spur.

Kayak 45:00 [3]
shoes: Viper K1

Evening pipeline. Now we're getting somewhere - GPS was reporting rather good numbers relative to effort (standard disclaimer - for me that is). I think Im starting to get how the core rotation works better now.

Finished wtih an easy km mixed with a couple of short sprints.

Very low tide - resistance training for the top couple of km. Else very pleasant evening on the water.

K1-tervals from Roseville. 10min w.u then 5*500m @ 2:20,2:26,2:21,2:24,2:20, then 10* 30 sec on-off.

Had slept thru' alarm, but went anyway albeit a bit later than planned. Sorry work.

Running 1:40:00 [3]

Ran home from work. Feeling reasonably sprightly, hence quite a nice tempo - helluva lot better than the plodfest last weekend. Perhaps run was fuelled by the afternoon meeting's Krispy Kreme donut. Those things are disgusting.

Kayak 55:00 [3]
shoes: Fenn Elite Double

Pipeline with Katrin in the double. Spanker of a morning, and a nice high tide. Relaxi-paddle, goal being to finish feeling better than at the start. Front-seat syndrome to start with from Katrin (cadence too high trying to 'keep up' with the rear paddler), but settled quickly enough in to a very pleasant float.

Bit of a late start left me with a dilemma at the end. I had time for coffee & juice, or breakfast but not both to make the bus. No prizes for guessing which option I went for.

Gotta love technology. Drop the watch on the desk on the way out the door, then check out the morning's GPS track from your phone on the bus.

Leaving the GPS on for the drive home does wonders for the speed stats.

Running 29:20 [3] 6.8 km (4:19 / km)

Opera House loop. Ran in to Gav the super physio, and stopped for a chat.

Trotted along at a respectable clip. Very muggy - cold shower at end very nice.

Cycling 1:25:00 [3]

Commute to and from Castle Cove. Riding from there is a tad short.

Gym 35:00 [3]

Went to the gym at lunch for the first time in ages. It sucked after having been outside so much recently - crowded, dark and enclosed. Would have thought gyms are emptier in summer, but the opposite appears to be true.

Cycling 50:00 [3]

Head was so busy working thru' a presentation for the big cheeses, was rather suprised when I found myself in the city.

Commuter needs some love.

Have started to notice how much time people spend queueing for a coffee in the CBD. Put down the new espresso machine as the purchase of 2009 - a definite productivity tool.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Late & tired ride home after a big day - I did not need the 15kt sea breeze to push in to.

On the plus side, made it home in time to read some more of the Dangerous Book for Boys from Santa with Tom. Teaching bowlines, reef knots & eights was the chapter for the day. Paper airplane chapter has been the best so far - I picked up a couple of new designs I wish I had known for maths lectures at Uni.
