Kayak 1:30:00 [3]

Sunday morning paddle while Tom sailed. Nicked off to paddle along the sandstone walls as there was bugger all wind for the kids.....until a thunderstorm came thru' right at the end. Munchkins had just finished racing and were sailing back under spinnaker when a 30-kt squall hit. Somewhat impressively a good number of the little buggers kept their kite up (and stayed upright) and disappeared far faster than I could paddle.

Oh yeah, another shark. Cant believe how many we've seen this year. This time a hammerhead was caught in a floating line. Rescue boat released it (and passed on the message to keep feet out of the water).

Easy afternoon run up to Lindfield oval and back after watching Annika chuck a javelin at the Australian Athletics Championships. Enjoyable run, but should have checked the forecast as I got absolutely smashed by a torrential thunderstorm on the way back.

The javelin nationals was interesting. Annika came 10th and was a little disappointed to not quite nail her competition throws. It is a mentally very different kind of sport than the endurance stuff that I do - much more about moments than a day of steadiness. Particularly tough for newbies as javelin is actually a very technical action with small margins of error making big differences, so hitting a good one in 3 throws not easy.

Annika got to nurse a case of the shoulda-woulda-couldas on the way home after throwing a boomer on the warm-up throw (big enough for podium) but couldnt back it up.

Great experience, and fun to get a personalised name plate rather than competition number. The personalised nameplates were to prove the absolute highlight of my day when Miss Hand from Queensland walked by, closely followed by Miss Grenade from Victoria.

Dad joke gold.

Easy lunchtime jog to check on the calf. OK, but wouldn't want to push it yet.

Early morning run up the Nosh track to Lindfield. Reasonably sprightly on the way up, with plans for a tempo effort return.

I pulled the plug on the effort when right calf started to complain 2.5km in to the interval, and jogged slowly home. A bit annoying as I was enjoying tapping along.
