Running 5:38:00 [3] 54.5 km (6:12 / km)

Woah. Long one. Metrogaine with Andy from Blackman Park. The banter before the run was for a short course due to the map size, but it quickly became clear that wasn't the case.

A very social run for the fisrt couple of hours with Ondrej/Steve/James and Gill/Jeremy heading the same direction as us. We grabbed an extra control early and ran around a few minutes behind - which proved to be handy to keep track of what was going on with lots of out and backs.

Not really sure where the course was taking us - just followed the map - but kept turning up in familiar places. Beautiful running weather with drizzle and cool wind made things quite fun.

After about 4 hours the route choices diverged a bit, with Gill/Jeremy picking a better route home than us (a couple of k shorter) and getting a few minutes ahead.

Doubt I would have entered a 55k run if I knew how long it would be. Not many long runs in the past 9 months, but really quite pleased with how the fitness held up. Residual fitness - the upside of being old. Sore legs though from about 40k.

Always a pleasure to rogaine with Andy. Good times.

lightly quicker cruise around Barangaroo headland and Pyrmont. Expiremented a little to maximise shade running options. Best bit is definitely thru the Barangaroo buildings with shade and airco blowing out the doors on each side.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

The most memorable runs are the one's that turn out to feel a little bit special unexpectedly.

I've started to look forward to the Tuesday beach run while Tom is at gym. I headed off from Fishermans northwards towards Narabeen on the soft sand enjoying the evening light and nor' easter keeping things cool. As I passed Colloray I completely coincidentally saw Annika's school year at the beach - they are on Year 11 camp having good times by the look of it. Felt quite good heading north, and upgraded to intervals - 7 * 2min for the return journey from North Narra.

It's no secret that 2016 was a tough one for me - the back-half brutally so. A telling indicator being training difficult and running hard not a realistic option. And so finding myself bashing out soft sand intervals - and loving it - gave pause to reflect how far I've come and to deeply appreciate the feeling of being back on top of things.
