Running 1:50:00 [3]

With the longer evenings creating options for the Tuesday run while Tom is at gym, today I headed out oxford falls way with the rough aim of creating an interesting loop....which went quite well. It is nice and quiet up there on seldom used tracks if you go the right way.

Decided to go around narrabeen lake on the way home as the legs were feeling pretty good. Having said that, I upped the tempo for the last 5k but was travelling noticeably slower than it felt.

Nice run.

Running 55:00 [3]

An ominous looking storm front with hints of thunder as I left the building triggered a rethink of the plan to run a cruisy loop of the bay over Anzac bridge. Instead I opted for a wharf loop, and the arrival of said storm just as I started encouraged me to run a bit faster than planned.

Stinging rain and blustery winds for the first 3k, with a moody harbour to keep company. Oddly, the weather started to settle very quickly and by the finish it was sunny, hot and muggy. Bizzare.

24:10 for an enjoyable 6k.

Kayak 2:00:00 [3]

Day 2 of the F11 States. Bugger all wind today made for a more sedate affair...for me at least.

The start is vitally important in light air for sailing, and thus quite a sight watching 65 boats fighting for clear air and position. 3 general recalls to get the race away (when everyone is over the line), with Hugh's Jamie actually winning the race but getting wiped for being over on the 4th start. Ouch.

The wind died completely at the end, which made for a long float home for those not lucky enough to snag a tow from a power boat. I discovered it is possible to tow a F11 with a surf ski despite lack of tow point. Stick the rope under your foot, and just let it run past your side. Serious dose of resistance training for 15min.

Fun weekend.

Kayak 3:00:00 [3]

Ski spectating at the Flying 11 States on Lake Illawarra. F*&k me it was cold for November. Ironically, it was much warmer paddling than standing around on land as the water was so much warmer than the air.

Decent breeze meant that I had to paddle quite solidly....which I haven't done much of lately. Shoulders smashed by the end of the day.

Note

Amusing follow up to yesterday's run. Turns out we came 2nd in the corporate comp by only 5 seconds (adding times of 4 fastest runners from each company). Painful to hear that first place gets a free trip to New York to compete in the international final. Doh!

Running (JP Morgan Challenge) 19:50 [3] 5.6 km (3:33 / km)

Corporate hitout in Centennial Park on a cool Wednesday evening. Impressive turnout apparently - in the order of 6 or 7 thousand folk for a lap of the park.

Started a few rows back from the front, and was reminded of the importance of elbow technique for the first couple of hundred meters before things started to free up. Nasty first km with a decent pinch got me puffing and a reminder to be a little sensible, and going thru' 1k under 3:30 was a reminder a might be pushing my luck a little. I found a rhythm just below threshold and hit the next couple of k's bang on 3:30's before tiring a little in k's 4 & 5. I went thru 5k in about 17:45 which is probably a 21st century PB for me, before suffering it home in the last 600m to scrape in just under 20 minutes. Pretty happy with that, and ~40sec faster than 2 years ago. 82nd place according to the results.

A few corporate Coronas to finish off an enjoyable evening, and heading home with the annual road hitout wrapped up for another year.
