Running 50:00 [3]

5k wharf tempo in 18:24. Impressed by the bang for buck I seem to be getting from my approach to running training this year, and its regular smattering of tempo sessions. Felt pretty relaxed for this one, which would certainly not have been the case a year ago.

Not sure how it translates to longer runs, although I seemed to get thru' the Paddy Pallin 6hr OK. At the time I thought I got tired at the end, but in hindsight that was probably just because Ondrej is really fast these days.

Running 55:00 [3]

Decided to combine an easy run with a spotify-high-tempo cadence (170) playlist to see what would happen.

At first it did feel kind of like combining steak with ice cream - weird. Stuck with it and gradually relaxed in to it, in the end deciding it was actually quite a good running form exercise even if I don't think Ill aspire to making it the norm.

Funny how small differences feel so different. My natural turnover is about 165 and 170 feels heaps faster.

Orienteering 17:48 [3]

NSW Sprint Champs at PLC. Couldn't pass up the opportunity orienteer at Annika's school, and appreciated the 2minute walk from home to the start.

It was lots of fun, and apart from one screw up early I ran OK.

I haven't actually done much sprint orienteering and it took a little while to get the hang of the map, in particular the levels stuff and lost 1:20 at #3. Oops. I understood that grey meant canopy above, but didn't immediately tweak that extended to running thru passages in buildings. Ran OK after that with a couple of wobbles and finished 2sec behind Richard Morris.

Should do more often. Enjoyable.

Kayak 2:30:00 [3]

Rushed from orienteering to Tom's sailing and had quite a long paddle out on the Sound, partly due to 3 general recalls at the start. Some nice lumps to play on while watching the boys.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Friday lunch cruise around the Bay in reverse. Not sure why I normally go anti-clockwise and so mixed it up.

Running 45:00 [3]

5 wharfies, 2:00,1:54,1:53,1:53,1:52.

In a reminder of the value of a warmup the first one felt as fast as the others but was a long way off.

Running form always feels better logging back from an intervals session, reminding the benefit is more than just burned lungs
