Orienteering 1:10:00 [1] 6.9 km (10:09 / km)
I ran with an alias in our men's second team in the morning's mass start. Just jogging the 5th leg easily after freezing for 4 hours or so in the sleeping bag in the club tent. The funny thing is that I felt maybe even better physically than yesterday. I enjoyed "the little jog" very much!

Then there was of course the legendary ferry trip back to Helsinki. Some wining, dining, fun and games and dancing the night away!

Saturday Apr 26

Event: Tiomila 2008

Orienteering race 47:44 [5] 6.7 km (7:07 / km)
125/351. +8.47
Last year I was fast but made like 10 minutes mistakes, this year I was pretty slow but made no mistakes. My goal was do a clean run so I'm satisfied. Starting in the 5th row with a number 253 is a bitch because there really was no chance to get though the cattle herd. I was pushing people out of my way and passing people off-road from right and left but I was still forced to "jog" with the pack. So I lost some time in the start and missed the faster trains. In the beginning I was just doing my own run and pretty much tried to ignore the other people. I was making my own route choices and ran almost alone in some parts. The second half of the course I was running in a little group and was suffering a bit but not too much. It was a busy week and I think the lack of sleep made my legs a bit heavy. So definitely not the best day physically, but I passed quite many people in the finish "sprint" anyway.
Jogging warm up/down 30:00 [1]

Friday Apr 25

Note
(rest day)
Some studying in the morning, then an exam at uni and and then to the ferry!

Thursday Apr 24

Therapeutic exercise warm up/down (Keppijumppa) 15:00 [1]
Games (Badminton) 1:00:00 [2]
I wanted to take it a bit easier this time so we played the whole time with the slower (green) shuttlecock. I usually do most of the running but because I wanted to take it easy, I tried to make Hannu run this time. I was quite surprised when my strategy turned against me! ;)

Wednesday Apr 23

Running intervals (3x5'/5') 15:00 [4]
max:192
I started my training at 7:44 today, which is a small miracle! It was a beautifuI and sunny morning. :)

I did a little fartlek/interval training: 3x5 min fast and 5 minutes slow running in between. Drowsy as I was, I failed to push the right buttons in my watch so I didn't get the average heart rate for the first interval... But the average heart rate for the 2nd one was A 168 and for the 3rd one A 175.
I tried to run each interval a bit faster than the previous one so the last one was more or less full pace. It was a bit stiff in the beginning but I felt surprisingly good in the end. Nice.
Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]
The rest of the fartlek.

Tuesday Apr 22

Running 45:00 [2]
ahr:147
Running from my place with Tiina, Anu, Minna and Oona. Afterwards we checked out the sauna in the next building (there's a free "jogging sauna" on Tuesdays for the tenants).

I'm trying to be a good captain so I arranged a little Tiomila get-together for our ladies. I baked some tomato-mozzarella pizza and we also ate lots of sweets and cookies and other stuff that people had brought with them. There was a lot of food because there were 11 women... Everyone was feeling good so I think we're gonna have a very good weekend!

Flexi-Bar 30:00 [2]
slept:6.0
Poof! I forced myself out of bed in the morning and dragged my little ass to the university to listen to a neurobiology lecture. It was totally worth it - these are A-class lectures (or even elite)! It's actually the first course that I've chosen myself and didn't just have to take. The professor has his own brain research top unit in Viikki (="my campus") and he is an exellent and even a funny lecturer. After lunch I came home and lied on my bed in a coma for 90 minutes or so. I was almost late from work. But I got my training done after coming home from work! I'm proud of myself.
Therapeutic exercise (Balance board) 15:00 [2]
Squats, squats, squats!
Note
The 1st leg in HS2 it is! It's cool to run the first leg again and without any pressure. And it'll be super cool to see our Austrian, Slovakian and Estonian sections again! :) I'm excited!
