Orienteering race 1:04:00 [3] 8.9 km (7:11 / km) +385m 5:55 / km

DVOA-DAY3-Long (RED). Not a bad race, messed up #3 again by 3 min or so, just dropped too low into the green and missed the trail that was supposed to take me just above the bag. Then wasn't very sharp on #4 and #5 but got cleaner as things went uphill. The terrain had somewhat bad footing (very French Creek like), so I didn't push and ran cautiously in many parts of the course. The couse wasn't as technical as the one on Sat. hence, lower number of mistakes. One note is that I was able to move on most of the uphills, which by itself is a good sign. Hopefully, I will be in somewhat decent shape for the US Champs.

Orienteering race 39:25 [4] 4.9 km (8:03 / km)

DVOA-DAY2-Middle. A so-so ran, had too many little bubles here and there not to mention 3 min lapse on #3. I had some issues with visibility as I haven't run in the woods with leaves on ad missed #9 and #10 because of it. Felt ok phisically but not very confident as I wore a new pair of NikeAir Trail shoes, which are very light, but turned out to be bit unstable in this type of terrain. Wil's time was very impressive, I am not sure if a clean ran would've be enough for me to beat it.

Thursday May 15, 2008 #

Running 42:00 [3]

Tuesday May 13, 2008 #

Running 25:00 [3] 5.4 km (4:38 / km)

Went to PP, run a loop decided not to run second as my r-knee began to complain, surprisingly felt very light on the long hill. Stretched well afterwards.

Monday May 12, 2008 #

Cross-training 45:00 [3]

Some usual strenght stuff + back and lots of stretching, can't believe how unflexible I am.

Sunday May 11, 2008 #

Running 45:00 [3]

Easy run with K on trails in FP. Really nice weather, still not used to see so many leaves on trees yet. I am thinking of starting my FP training once again just like I did before the Pig if my knees hold up.

Thursday May 8, 2008 #

Cross-training 50:00 [3]

Wednesday May 7, 2008 #

Running 25:00 [3] 4.5 km (5:33 / km)

Sunday May 4, 2008 #

Orienteering race 1:03:08 [4] 7.0 km (9:01 / km)

We spent the night at Greg's place and I said that if when I wake up my knees feelt ok I would go with them to WP. To my surprise my knees were about the same as they felt on Sat morning, and so I went
I was the last starter again, but I've switched from blue to red since Angelica didn't come and there was available extra red map at the start. Once again I put the same goals before me and off I went. I really got into flow between 1 and 5 and was having a blast untill I missed 5 by a min. Then came the long leg where I chose a safe approach from below rather then trying to hit it right on in the patches of green. Number #11 messed me up (someone who was with me in the area said "too little cliffs on the map, too many of them here"). I took it slowly on the steep downhill toward the end of the course and finished just as I suddenly felt very hungry. Overall not a bad run, but once again I missed one of my goals.

Orienteering race 46:40 [4] 5.2 km (8:58 / km)

WP Day1. I surprised myself by deciding to run this thing at all, especially given how my knees felt after the Billygoat which featured similar rocky terrain, and that a pain in my R-knee just wouldn't go away. After assuring Balter for the past 2 weeks that I wouldn't even go, I volunteered to drive Goats to the meet since V-Goat suddenly sold his wheels. I figured since I am there anyway, I might as well just get out there.
The plan was to take it very easy as a training excersise. I made a goal to make 0 mistakes, since I wasn't gonna race, and see how my knees would respond. I was ready to give up if I felt like I was falling appart.
It is intersting how the "once you get your map, you will forget...." works. I was the last starter and was happy with the fact that no one would be catching me up. My legs felt surprisingly light and off I went. I even managed to find some flow untill I hit #7, however totally lost it at #8. I was cought off guard by a raw of cliffs that were situated just below the control and I was sure I was in the right spot to only find out later that I was below. Then I totally lost focus on the next pair of controls and only regained it on the way to #10.
I was happy to finish and was really surprised to see the results. My legs felt good, I didn't feel tired at all and my knees seemed to be ok. I archived the goal of taking it easy, but I didn't manage to have a clean run after all.
