Running 1:20:15 [3] 14.0 km (5:44 / km) +300m 5:11 / km

At Lewis Morris by myself, as certain suspect got swept by a wave of procrastination.
Initially, wanted to run a course, even had it drawn on a map, but then settled for a trail run instead for the sake of the ankles. Felt unconformable and out of shape for the first 20 min or so, but then after clearing a big hill, body opened up and legs just started running. The further I ran the better I felt, even did the 'monster' in reverse with a bit of a sprint on the top. Was debating whether I should run some more as I still felt fairly strong, but decided not to push the ankles just yet. Good stuff.

I think, just as in Harriman, Koreans taking over the trails at LM, as I met them in droves on the trails today.

Orienteering race 1:59:34 [4] 11.1 km (10:46 / km) +120m 10:13 / km

COC -Long. Well... this was an interesting one to say the least. I don't remember as many wipe outs on a course as I had on this one, just couldn't manage to keep myself upright at many times. In addition, a close and personal encounter with a barb wire for a total of three times must be some sort of a personal PR.
The first part of the course, before the map change, was really fun. It felt like running in a maze or something, though some parts of bare rocks closely reminded of those in Harriman. The vegetation, for the most part, was not very runnable and quite often thorny, so I found myself hoping from one clearing to another if I wanted to keep on running. This of course led to a constant change of direction and made it hard to follow the direction I was running in.
The map exchange revealed that a lot more of the course would be spent in this maze. Eventually, it got too tedious, and I was loosing my focus. There were no trails, so I couldn't get any mental rest and had to constantly keep on trying to stay focused, which was hard.
I quite never gained any kind of a flow, as I found myself bushwhacking across beaver dams and other many crossing places. I stayed out of marshes and lakes with dark lines, although I clearly saw footprints of someone going across before me.
After my second encounter with the barb wire, which entangled with my ankles and sent me flying across rocks, it felt like my right calf got shredded to pieces. But after a quick evaluation, it only looked scratched up pretty badly but no muscle damage. So I wobbled ahead. The third encounter completely knocked the wind out of me, and I began to worry that I may not make it out in one piece. But I didn't give up as I saw that the course was taking us out to a more traditional parts of the woods and I was relieved to be finally out of the maze section.
The final part went relatively peacefully, but I was too banged up to ask of any meaningful effort out of my body at that point.
This course was tougher than me and it showed in the final results.
I only hope that my ankles didn't sustain any material damage, as I found it hard to be stepping on my left foot this morning, though I don't remember anything in particular happening to it on the course, so it may be just nothing serious.
I will put my routes on RG once it is up, some of them are just quite not right :)

Orienteering race 16:51 [5] 2.8 km (6:01 / km) +40m 5:37 / km

COC - Sprint. Really upset about this race. Had it going pretty good, despite a slow start, not sure how top guys were able to crash through that green on the way to the first control at the time that they did. But the after picking an around route to #7 I never saw an underpass and went on a little tour around the facility for like 1:36 for what should've been only a 0:23 leg. Was really bummed about that. Got really pissed and started really pushing it. Managed to win some splits I guess but was too late. Probably would've had something like 15:40 result at the end. Still can't believe I did that!

Orienteering race 39:02 [5] 4.8 km (8:08 / km) +110m 7:18 / km

COC - Middle. Had an ok race though nothing to be extremely happy about. Very detailed terrain with lots of trails, but with rough footing and pretty thick green. Starter out pretty good with exeption for the first control where I had my map upside down for like 15 sec before figuring it out. Cought Mark Adams, who started 2 min in front of me, by #5 and then had my first, of many, 20 sec error. Wasn't very sharp on #9 and then #15. And then really messed up #19, just couldn't understand the map and just happen to stumble upon the bag after wobbling around for a bit.
I definitelly had the legs and was feeling pretty good despite not sleeping the night before, but sloppy o-ing doomed me in the woods.

Orienteering 50:30 [3] 4.0 km (12:38 / km)

A good training at Hogencamp. Went out and set '03 Middle TT course by placing paper pieces at control locations. To make it more challenging, I approached each control from a different angle and avoided running in the same areas where I would be running once on the course.

Orienteering 37:25 [4] 4.3 km (8:42 / km) +215m 6:58 / km

The course. I did it in 35:48 back in '03, and by comparing the splits I was running a lot slower at the beginning this time, but picked it up at the end. This time I did better on the long legs, but screwed up #8 in the green by 1:30. Overall, o-ing was better than last weekend, so I am happy with that.

Running 1:01:40 [3]

On trail at Eagle Rock with a map. Tested knew HRM Timex T5H881. Very good at picking the HR, but seems like there is a software bug, perhaps something else. The max was 170 with average of 139. I know I was pushing at ~190 on a section of a trail plus my average is never below 150. Will play with it a bit more, and if it doesn't fix itself, will just return it.

Running 1:02:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:38 / km)

At the track with K. Did 10x100m somewhere in the middle of the run and back home.

11 AM

Running 40:00 [3] 4.5 km (8:53 / km)

Getting to the start of my training at Hogencamp map from a parking lot.
12 PM

Orienteering 31:00 [4] 4.0 km (7:45 / km)

Ran a middle course from Alexei's training camp. Lots of technical terrain, and I wasn't sure if I even hit half of the control locations correctly. I could feel that my O isn't up to par.
1 PM

Running 40:00 [3] 4.0 km (10:00 / km)

Back to the "Rock" for a swim, card game, and food.

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 3.0 km (13:20 / km)

Setting some controls for HVO local meet at Loantaka Res.

Orienteering 26:10 [4] 4.6 km (5:41 / km)

Red course. A bit rusty in places and rushed with the compass more often than I would've liked. ~1:15 in losses.

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 3.0 km (13:20 / km)

Picking the same controls up.

Running 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

A quick run to Verona park for some pull ups and back.

Running 57:00 [3] 9.5 km (6:00 / km) +50m 5:51 / km

Easy jog mostly on trails at the Eagle Rock with a map. My quads and calves felt really strong though my hamstrings are still mega sore after the run on Sun, hence just a jog. A few trails already need to be moved plus vegetation has gotten really out of wack in a few spots. During the run a happy thought sneaked into my mind of how nice it is to be living next to a real map.

Running 59:15 [4] 13.5 km (4:23 / km) +350m 3:53 / km

A nice tempo run at Lewis Morris. Was working hard on the uphills and only slowed down on steep downhills. A bit cooler than in the past month or so ~ 78F but still very humid.
