Finally caught up on all the things here at home after returning from France. A bit about my races. I wasn't very happy with my middle qualifier when I crossed the finish line. Two things stood out the most. First, I was caught off guard by the dense vegetation as there where a number of spots where I found myself crawling on my four in areas mapped as white. Second, indistinct trails that I usually ignore in US, where actually quite visible and apparently the only way to move around the terrain. Unfortunately, I picked on this very late in the race and instead, spent a lot of time fighting in the woods.
My relay race went a lot better. It wasn't a perfect race, however, it was a solid one. I stuck to my plan of continuously checking my direction and was never off my line. Also, the woods where a lot nicer than during previous races. I said it before the race that my goal was to finish ahead of team Canada, and I think it worked out pretty well.
I will be taking some time off now, then will think about future goals when I am ready to return.

On trails at Harriman while K was was hiking with her co-workers. Slow but quite physical. It is always tough in here. We went out right after rain and it felt like running through a rain forest, warm and humid. But lots of streams to cool off at. Had 1:15k map with me and was reading all the curves and nearby features on the run. A good training overall.

What a day at work! My boss circulates the news that I am a US Champion and that I am going to WOC next week. Our CFO comes over to congratulate and inquires about my trip to France. I tell that it is this and that, and we don't really have sponsors to soften the financial blow. Go to lunch, come back. Get called into the office, walk out with a salary bump! Never in a million years...
