Orienteering race 44:58 [4]*** 6.44 km (6:59 / km) +205m 6:01 / km
ahr:155 max:166 shoes: Jalas dobs
Scottish Relays. Long leg - posted as 5.6km +325. The ankle that I tweaked yesterday was sore & unstable and my legs were utterly dead. Scrappy in places, but I was just dead slow. Much nicer than yesterday; much simpler too. I think that Tullochroisk works better as a relay venue - well for lightweights like me who are even worse than usual in the rough stuff :)

Saturday May 24

Event: Scottish Championships

Orienteering race 1:30:25 [4]**** 9.6 km (9:25 / km) +445m 7:39 / km
ahr:151 max:172 spiked:11/21c shoes: Jalas dobs
Scottish Champs, Tullochroisk, M35L course: posted as 7.3km +380m. I hated this, not my sort of area at all, particularly the heather-covered rocky hillside to the east of the area; tweaked my ankle and generally lost interest. I was pretty poor in the forest at the start, too, though, so, all round, I deserved to be ages down on the good guys - Jase had a superb run, 64 mins, and Steve Nic's 59 mins was just awesome.

Orienteering race 38:39 [4]*** 6.54 km (5:55 / km) +120m 5:25 / km

WEE Callander Park. Had hoped to run at Kinnoull Hill Race but it didn't work out - I had to get home to do some more prep before getting up at 5am and driving to Manchester for two days of pressure in a bunny suit. For work. Anyway...
I should have warmed up! Felt very sluggish for ages... for about 5km, in fact. Was also very poor around the controls, hesitant and inaccurate in the circle. 4:45 down on Steve N. Nice course set by Gary, although it's getting mighty brambly in them thar woods.
Running warm up/down 16:30 [2]2.5 km (6:36 / km) +70m 5:47 / km
ahr:133 max:148 shoes: Inov8 RocLite
Warmed down by collecting in a few controls for Gary.

Tuesday May 20

Running (Paths) 36:00 [2]7.33 km (4:55 / km) +30m 4:49 / km
ahr:143 shoes: Asics Gel Landreth 3
Such a nice day out that I decided to turn my B&Q lunchtime shopping trip into an opportunity for a slow recovery jog. Legs pretty heavy, but I concentrated on my style, man... yes, I know, what style?!
In sunshine and at a slow pace Livingston can actually be quite pleasant. Although it does my head in when builders in-fill green areas with a warren of cul-de-sacs, and then fail to put any exit routes from them other than the single road in and out! Idiots. No wonder people drive everywhere! Today, for example, I could see the path I wanted, about 30 yards away on the edge of the wood, but could I get to it without a half-mile detour? No. Well, I could have, but that Granny washing her car was giving me the beady eye as I was looking speculatively at the fence, and I didn't want to give runners any bad press...

Monday May 19

Running (Road & trail) 50:00 [3]10.47 km (4:47 / km) +240m 4:17 / km
ahr:151 max:169 shoes: Asics Gel-Trail Attack WR
Set off for a steady trundle around Dunblane - Laighills, up past the Longhursts, and back along the glen, but miscalculated and then took a wrong turn near the railway, all of a sudden I was late for Beccy going out and I had to push it for the 3km home. Gasping like a cardiac victim by the time I stumbled through the doorway - a better workout than planned!
