J still sick, so left work early to get home and help out - no chance to run.

Orienteering race 35:02 intensity: (8 @1) + (17 @2) + (3:45 @3) + (24:51 @4) + (6:01 @5) **** 5.88 km (5:57 / km) +52m 5:42 / km
ahr:160 max:175 slept:8.5 (injured) shoes: Jalas Jukola FLX

JK Relays, Braunton Burrows. Middle (short) leg in M120+: 4.7km. Set off a couple of minutes down on our other team, so I had a bit of work to do to try to catch up Gary, but I promptly threw away nearly 2 mins on #1! Also cocked up #7, by a good minute and a half, wallying around looking for a spur on the wrong side of the hill. Gary had an excellent run, 2 mins faster than me, whereas I was notably scrappier than yesterday and only really got into it after the spectator control. Still, I enjoyed it, relays are fun, a good end to an enjoyable JK. Given that the scandalous BOF levy increases were approved at the AGM, it may be my last!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)
slept:8.5 (injured) shoes: Jalas Jukola FLX

Wee 10 minute warm down jog with an excited Gary, still buzzing from his run.

Orienteering race 55:30 intensity: (14 @1) + (45 @2) + (11:21 @3) + (40:06 @4) + (3:04 @5) **** 7.84 km (7:05 / km) +92m 6:41 / km
ahr:156 max:168 slept:8.0 (injured) shoes: Jalas Jukola FLX

JK Day 2, Braunton Burrows: M40S, 6.5km +185m. More like it. Achilles more sore today, but dosed up with ibuprofen it didn't bother me running and was only a bit sorer after the race. A better run from me, too, 3rd/39, and some competitive splits - scrappy in the circle on a good half dozen controls but only really dropping significant time on #1 (1 min) #8 (2 mins). Pulled myself up to 4th overall, 20 minutes down over two days on the ringer 1st place but only 10 mins down on the more realistic 2nd. Happy enough with that, considering I was also feeling pretty tired and unfit!

JK Day 1, Cooksworthy Forest: M40S, 5.9km +115m. Yeuch. Chucking it with rain, horribly muddy in the forest - and I seemed to find a lot of windblow and brambles too. Not an enjoyable experience. Struggled with the scale from the off: poor 1/2/3 (particularly bad on 3, threw away 4 minutes, idiot!), then fairly consistently (slow) until 15 and 16, where I threw away another 1.5 minutes on each. Scrappy performance. 6th/37 sounds OK but it was only Short; could easily have been fighting for 2nd. Glad I stuck to Short, though, as my achilles was a bit achey but didn't seem any worse after the event.
Too wet to take out my leaky Garmin, so I'm guessing at the distance/climb!

Orienteering race 20:04 intensity: (16 @1) + (11 @2) + (8 @3) + (15:31 @4) + (3:58 @5) **** 3.77 km (5:19 / km) +40m 5:03 / km
ahr:161 max:176 slept:7.5 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 11

JK Sprint at Bicton College: M40, 3km +40m. A technical notch down from even the Edinburgh city race, or the Scottish Sprints at KB; more of a park run, but enjoyable nonetheless, and certainly complicated enough for me to carelessly throw away 2 minutes in three silly mistakes. Blew #1 by 40s, d'oh!

Very muddy underfoot, even with an early run; trainers not the footwear of choice. Wish I'd read the final details and brought my dobs with me. Glad, though, that my achilles (plastered in voltarol gel) held up and wasn't too stiff/sore afterwards.

Running (Terrain) 37:48 intensity: (2:04 @1) + (22:21 @2) + (10:21 @3) + (3:02 @4) 4.29 km (8:49 / km) +176m 7:19 / km
ahr:134 max:159 slept:8.0 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus 11

Time for an easy 30 minute run to try out progress with my achilles. I decided to set off with the club run and head back at the allotted time; as it worked out, control collecting around Abbey Craig and then Minewoods was on order, so I was able to join Janine, Jon and Ross around Abbey Craig, then wave the latter two off on their trip to Mine Woods. Nice to be running through terrain, albeit with the wrong footwear, and up some steep hills, but no real grumbles from me or the achilles. Feeling desperately unfit, mind.
