Steady run around the G.S. loop, just looking to loosen off after 20 hours travelling yesterday. Usual boost after being at altitude, but careful not to push it; running hard a day after being cooped up on a transatlantic flight was when I first slipped a disc, back in the day. TRIMP 70.

Passing through Colorado, I had time to nip up one of the 14,000'ers - Mount Bierstadt. Feeling fit after a week's hiking and not affected by the altitude, I cracked on up the hill and got there in an hour and half. "Five hour round trip"? I think not. Didn't fancy pushing time (and Denver traffic) by trying the category 3 ridge scramble on to Mount Evans. Dang, I'm getting sensible in my old age.

Hill walking 1:10:19 intensity: (58:51 @0) + (11:12 @1) + (15 @2) + (1 @3) 5.75 km (12:14 / km) +48m 11:44 / km

Nice and easy back down, after a good chin wag on top. Saw lots of folks I'd powered past and was amused to be told that I'd earned the trail name of "The Mad Scotsman" (surely Flying would have been better?)

Jogging the Islands in the Sky overlooks. First one: a jog out to the Upheaval Dome overlooks. Nice trail, and a pleasant temperature (about 65F). Nice to be running! TRIMP 40.7.

Running (Trail run) 21:18 intensity: (3:04 @1) + (11:07 @2) + (7:02 @3) + (5 @4) 3.2 km (6:39 / km) +78m 5:56 / km

Rim path from Grand View Point.Next up, this pleasant trot along the edge of the escarpment. Very picturesque but, sadly, totally mobbed. TRIMP 38.7.

Running (Trail run) 18:44 intensity: (27 @0) + (3:17 @1) + (9:12 @2) + (5:48 @3) 2.89 km (6:29 / km) +58m 5:54 / km
ahr:131 max:149 shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 2

And lastly, the nicest one (and quite quiet!) - White Rim overlook. Now on to Arches NP. TRIMP 32.8.

Hiking in Arches NP: Devil's Garden Primitive Trail
The Primitive Trail was a really lovely route, twisty and occasionally technical. Also quiet(-ish); the return along the main Devil's Garden trail was busy. Visited Dark Angel and the off-shoot trails to Navajo and Portrait Arches, the latter my favourite arch in the park. TRIMP 79.6.

Walking 1:04:30 intensity: (44:37 @0) + (16:56 @1) + (2:57 @2) 5.07 km (12:43 / km) +196m 10:40 / km

Hiking in Arches NP: Delicate Arch trail.
Obligatory. Mobbed. Baking hot, 90F+ the whole way. Still great, though. R heel blistering, so I swapped to trainers, which were fine on the slick rock. TRIMP 51.3.

Hiking in Canyonlands NP: Loop from Squaw Campground to Chesler Park, Joint Trail and Big Spring.
Last day in the Needles, so I planned a big one and thankfully some cloud kept the direct sun off and pegged temperatures back a good 10F. Still glad that I started at 7am, and packed a gallon of water! Lots of variety and some fun scrambling. TRIMP 189.9

Hiking in Canyonlands NP: Druid Arch trail.
I've been lucky enough to get to go walking in some amazing places in my life, but this trail is pretty special. Beautiful from beginning to end; sandy in a few places but a fun scramble at the end of the canyon to climb up to the arch, and then a jaw-dropping view back down the canyon. The Needles is an incredible place. I'd actually hoped to tag on the Joint Trail and Chesler Park, but hadn't packed enough water. Schoolboy error. Glad as I was sensible, because I ran out before getting back to the CP. Drank the Visitor Centre dry on my way out of the park. TRIMP 144.2.
