VHI Individals at North Pentland Hills, running up on the M35 (Brown) course - 8.5km +390m.
Another fail. 0 for 2 this weekend. I started well, plodding steading along, and was gratified that it took until the 6.5km mark for my 10-minute man, spring chicken Steve F, to catch me up. Lack of training caught me up on the way to #10, about 8km, though, and I started going backwards. Keen to cut a corner I found myself trapped in unmapped grot and lost 5 minutes on the way to #11. By then I was in zombie limp-home mode, and fell victim to my recurring mistake of missing out a control - #13 - in the middle of a straight line, from #12 to #14. I ran right past it and even saw someone at it. No light came on in my brain to say that I had to punch there. It was only when I finished and was chatting to Ben that realisation dawned. Gutted. All that way and all that effort only to mispunch 400m from the Finish.
I need to come up with a strategy to stop making this mistake. And I didn't deserve to wear the Irish vest this weekend.

Idiot mispunch at the VHI Relays at Binning Wood. Last leg on MWM team. Not a great run - a bit faffy in places and missed on the first two after the spectator control, as did many - but I was surprised to find on download that I'd missed two out. #7 was simply that my card didn't register - in retrospect, I should have gone around the bench rather then lean over it - but #13 I just completely failed to see. I had my finger over it coming out of #12, and just saw the line going straight to #14. Which was a path, not my purple line. Really cross with myself. I've been pretty consistent with relay runs over the last few years; today was not the day to revert to bad habits.

Note
(rest day)

Didn't really have time today, as I had a lot of work to get through before (and after) Newton Running Club. Knees creaky jogging there (although calf much better), but all fine during the session and felt bouncy. This is probably about as good as I can get before the weekend's frolics.

North Third reservoir and Sauchie Crags loop. FVO Run with Jase, Jon X, Jamie G and... Jamie C! Well impressed with Jr, by far the longest he has run, and he only got a bit tired on a couple of the climbs over the crags on the way back. Won't be long before he's showing me a clean pair of heels.

Had time for a quick scoot around the uni & woods before picking up the boys from Central training. Legs felt ok tonight, but my head torch battery was feeling very tired and seriously curtailed forward progress. Schoolboy error!

Not so much peaking as trying to stem the loss of what little fitness I've managed to piece together, without irritating my knee/calf! Windy out.
