Orienteering race 40:43 [4] ****
16c

JK day 1, M21E, middle distance, 5.5 km (160m). Ilkley Moor. Ran hard and pretty clean until near the end. The terrain was a lot of fun. Starting early, the dead bracken was tough going. Blew past #13 - must have been very close, but it was well tucked away. Did a loop around and relocated on the depression below (-1:15), then was very hesitant on the easy next leg. Frustrating to lose time near the finish. The leading times were very impressive!

Note

Controls on the string course were 'Billy Boulder', 'Philip Fence', and .....

Note

Spectators looking down across Ilkley Moor to the finish area.

Run (off-road) 10:00 [1]

Jogged warm-up.

Orienteering race 17:09 [4] ***

JK warm-up sprint race at Temple Newsom. 3.3km (90m), 17:09. Pretty fun. Not too technical. Intended to take it easy, but ran at about 95%. Boris ran exactly 17:09 too! Fastest elites were 13:38 (GG), 13:57 (BJ).

Orienteering 22:00 [2]

Jogged half of a 22-yr old course on a B+W Becketts Park map. Sadly, it was hopelessly out of date. Bring on the JK!

CompassSport Cup first round, Macclesfield Forest. Brown, 7.3km/435m (finished 4th, 4 mins down). Airienteers won. Snow, hail and sunshine! This was a tough run - quite hilly, mostly in and out of reentrants, and very little traction. The course wasn't too technical, but it was tough to run a good line through all the topography. Somehow, I just never felt like I was going at a good pace. A few technical bobbles too. Hopefully next week will feel better.
