Orienteering 35:00 [3]
(injured)

Control picking with Lizzie - leg felt much better, and I feel much more confident about my navigation after having her follow me, as after this morning I was wondering about how much I'd be able to get used to the mapping if I couldn't do much.

Aquajogging 33:00 [3]
(injured)

Mission to a pool in the centre of Göteborg with Angela and James. We drove all over the place after making the mistake of turning onto a motorway onramp which went over the river with no way back...good to get in the water again.

Orienteering 50:00 [3]
(injured)

Route Choice with Georgia and Kate at Partille-Gunnilse. Cut it off after two controls because I hadn't warmed up properly and my leg was sore, especially after having the two longest routes.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]
(injured)

Walk around Nyu somethingorother map with Angela and Todd. Thought it would be a good idea to take it a bit easier today to give my leg a bit of a rest - the problems I'm getting at the moment seem more shin splinty than stress fracture related, and I've got some exercises and stuff from Todd to do. The terrain seems quite similar to Norway.

Long Run (Walk) 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

To and from the map from the military base where we are staying.

Orienteering race 1:05:00 [5]
(injured)

Second leg of the relay for a team from NTNUI. Leg was reasonably sore, so took it quite slow. I should probably also subtract at least 5mins from my time because I started just after about 200 M/W12 kids, and had to walk behind them to the start triangle, and then for a bit after that (there was no other way there and I couldn't get through them). This race was on the same map as the previous two days, so we were all starting o get to know the hill coming into the finish quite well. I didn't see anyone else in my grade the whole race, but there were heaps of other people out there.

Orienteering race 2:08:00 [5]
(injured)

8km of Norwegian rock terrain - the most physically tough race I've ever done. Made quite a few mistakes and also went a bit slower because of my leg, which was a bit sore.

Friday Jun 20, 2008 #

Orienteering race 49:51 [5]
(injured)

First race in Norway! The terrain is tough, but my leg didn't feel too bad and my navigation improved throughout, so hopefully that will continue.

Thursday Jun 19, 2008 #

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]
(injured)

Walk/run on the model map for O-festivalen in Norway. Felt soooooo good after all the traveling, but my leg wasn't too happy, so had to cut the test sourse quite short. Got to follow Thierry Georgiou for 100m though, which was cool.

Wednesday Jun 18, 2008 #

Long Run 40:00 [3]
(injured)

Run/walk around the clubhouse where we are staying to loosen up after travelling for so long, and check out the terrain a bit.

Monday Jun 16, 2008 #

Long Run intervals 43:00 [3]
(injured)

10x2min running intervals within a 43 min walk (1min walking recoveries). Leg a bit sore and aches now (6 hours later), but not very much, so hopefully it goes away by tomorrow. Could feel that my stabilising muscles are a bit weak, but again, hopefully that improves quickly.

Sunday Jun 15, 2008 #

Long Run intervals 42:00 [3]
(injured)

Walk with 15x1 min running intervals, with ~1min walking recoveries. Feeling good - little leg pain, iced when I got home, and wore compression tights. Up to two minute intervals tomorrow!

Other Sport (Walking) 20:00 [3]
(injured)

Brisk walk in the evening at almost running level.

Saturday Jun 14, 2008 #

Long Run intervals 32:00 [2]
(injured)

15x 30s jogging intervals in amongst the walk, as per plan. Leg hurt a little bit twice during the run, and aches a little bit now, but not too badly. Flew home today, so I ended up doing this in the dark. Have decided that I'm no longer sick, even though the cough is still there occasionally.

Aquajogging intervals 30:00 [4]
(injured) (sick)

1 loop, 6/10 loop, 4/10 loop with 4/10 loop recoveries, then repeat. All without the belt, but my breathing was going a bit crazy and during the recoveries I had to have a couple of little breaks to get it under control. I don't know what was going on there, because I felt physically good but just couldn't breathe in. Not keen for it to happen again.

Aquajogging warm up/down 20:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

10 up, 10 down. Had 8 hours of lectures today, so had to go just after 5pm and it was really busy - overtaking people constantly (I seem to have got a bit faster). Coughing still, although this seemed mostly unrelated to the breathing thing???

Bike 1:20:00 [3]
ahr:173 max:183 (injured) (sick)

Freezing cold morning - was nice to see the sun rise over the peninsula though (went out to the roadworks past Macandrew Bay and back). If only I'd known one of our lecturers wouldn't turn up - I would have had time to do this ride during daylight hours...which would be much safer (three almost crashes, despite lights - stupid overtaking drivers ignoring bikes). Felt pretty good all day though, apart from the nose and cough which is still hanging around a bit.

Tuesday Jun 10, 2008 #

Aquajogging intervals 27:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

2 x 3 laps of the pool with no belt with a three minute recovery with the belt. Felt good again - hard work but so good to get into it after a long day of sitting still in class. Cough doesn't seem as bad, so hopefully its on its way out.

Aquajogging warm up/down 22:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

10 up, 12 down.

Monday Jun 9, 2008 #

Aquajogging tempo 33:00 [4]
(injured) (sick)

Two laps medium, four hard, two really hard without belt (furthest ever!!). Felt pretty good, not coughing too much, so hopefully the cold is on its way out...

Aquajogging warm up/down 17:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

10 up, 7 down (somehow my warm down was super quick, even though it was the same length as the warm up).

Note
(injured) (sick)

Saw physio and came up with the plan to have me running properly by JWOC - pretty good, I think (it starts off with walking for an hour starting on Wednesday, moving on to jog/walk intervals on Saturday). I also finally got an actual copy of the bone scan report, which was interesting - apparently both legs showed signs of shin splints as well (which I couldn't feel yet...).

Sunday Jun 8, 2008 #

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

Freezing cold walk out at Pyramids. Did red short because nose and cough are still horrible and 7.5km seemed a far for the conditions. Cool control picking bit in the only decent patch of trees on the map, didn't really make any mistakes, apart from discovering a few areas of dodgy mapping and one control that was in the wrong place.

Saturday Jun 7, 2008 #

Aquajogging long 1:15:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

75 mins is a looooooooooong time to aquajog. I was saved for the last 15 mins by some kids having diving lessons - they were very amusing to watch. Coughing all over the place still.

Friday Jun 6, 2008 #

Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

All three boxes ticked again. Trust my rest day to be the one I have the least class on...I've got 8 hour days all next week, which leaves almost zero hours of daylight for training - it almost lucky that most of its in the pool...

Thursday Jun 5, 2008 #

Aquajogging intervals 35:00 [4]
(injured) (sick)

4x1 loop of the aquajogging area without the belt (hard work!) with 1 loop recoveries with the belt. Felt pretty good again today, except for a couple of coughing fits in the middle of the pool. There was actually a guy my age there, and a couple of youngish after work people - I was amazed that it was not just old ladies again...

Aquajogging warm up/down 20:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

10 warm up, 10 warm down.

Wednesday Jun 4, 2008 #

Aquajogging long 1:03:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

Long run, during the first 10 minutes an old lady decided to chat to me, so I heard all about her sons' high flying jobs, and what its like to manage all the kindies in Dunedin, but it did make the time go a bit quicker and she was pretty fast, so I had to work to keep up.

Tuesday Jun 3, 2008 #

Bike long 41:05 [3]
ahr:165 max:182 (injured) (sick)

Bike up Northeast Valley, but the hill at the end was too steep for my leg, so I had to turn around and go up the other street, which is not as interesting. Felt good to be doing something, but it was pretty cold (4 degrees on the way up and 6 on the way back).

Monday Jun 2, 2008 #

Orienteering 1:22:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

Bombing Range - nice walk around in the forest, and a little bit in the sand dunes. Didn't underestimate the distance as badly as on Saturday, except for at 2, where my bearing was a bit off as well. Soooooo frustrating not being able to run.

Sunday Jun 1, 2008 #

Orienteering 20:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

Collecting controls at Osgiliath. Leg needed a bit of a rest after yesterday.
