Note
(rest day)

At uni from 7.30am-10.30pm, so no time fopr running. Did scrub in on an awesome surgery though.

Long Run 50:00 [3]

From Gurkha Crs to Khandallah Park then round one of the smaller loops and down to Simla Crs then back via the front road and up to the top of Imran Tce. Very rainy, which got worse during the run, but not at all cold. It was pretty dark in the bush, so not too keen to do that bit by myself at that time again...

Strengthening (exercises) 15:00 [3]

Very much needed I think - lat rotators, hamstrings, abdo, calves.

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3]

Orienteering at Scotts Ferry - cool map, I don't know why it hasn't been used more. The vegetation was a bit dodgy which was annoying, but at least it was consistently dodgy. I was going pretty well for the first half after a bit of a wobble on the first control, which was in a pretty vague area. Todd passed me at 7, and left me behind when I got trapped in some unmapped green (not that I expected to keep up). After that I got a bit tired but my navigation stayed good, so I was fairly pleased with my run, apart from still being too slow. Was pretty tired after a week of early mornings and then a late night last night as well (zoo-themed 21st:).

Walk 1:00:00 [3]

Walk up Mt Kaukau - thought I really should give my leg a rest today, as it was fairly tight this morning, but warmed up and got better during the day. Also went for a 45min walk in the afternoon, but it feels like cheating to put that up too...

Long Run 1:12:00 [3]

From Gurkah Crs up Mt Kaukau, down again, up a track in the middle and down the other side of that loop. All was going well (I think it was approximately the same tracks as our night run) until the last downhill, when I discovered that wrist braces are quite useful when I tripped and ended up going headfirst down rough steps, getting some lovely grazes on my right arm and leg, and pulling my right calf muscle - hopefully its okay by tomorrow, but it didn't feel good at the time! The brace is now covered in dirt, but did prevent me from wrecking my wrist again...

Long Run 42:00 [3]

Gurkah Crs to Khandallah Park, through the tracks to Simla Crs, back via the level crossing then round the front roads coming back. It was a bit dark to be going along the tracks.

Wednesday Apr 22, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

I hate these early mornings.

Tuesday Apr 21, 2009 #

Long Run 40:00 [3]

Run to Khandallah Park and back via Smla Crs and the level crossing. Too dark to go along the tracks on Mt Kaukau.

Note

Found out that my wrist has to go in a splint for the next 4-8 weeks to allow my scapho-lunate ligament to ighten up so I stop screwing up my wrist. Really annoying, but hopefully it will fix things!

Monday Apr 20, 2009 #

Long Run 45:00 [3]

In the dark and freezing wind up Mt Kaukau with Lizzie, Sarah, Todd, and Magnus. Died on the steep uphill, but flat and down was good. Fun run, lots of garlic bread afterwards:)

Sunday Apr 19, 2009 #

Long Run 50:00 [3]

2x lake plus Otamatea Reserve, slightly different route to last time.

Friday Apr 17, 2009 #

Long Run 45:00 [3]

Thursday Apr 16, 2009 #

Long Run 35:00 [3]

Wednesday Apr 15, 2009 #

Long Run 36:00 [3]

Virginia Lake - top track, bottom track.

Orienteering 51:00 [3]

1st leg of the relay, mispunchedm which was annoying - 43 and 44 were very close together and on similar features. Made a mistake on 3 which left me behind the bunch and spent ages catching up the next few people.

Sunday Apr 12, 2009 #

Orienteering 1:09:00 [3]

W21A for the long. Got tired towards the end and made some silly mistakes. Bearings seemed to be a bit off, which I need to work on.

Saturday Apr 11, 2009 #

Orienteering 42:26 [3]

Nationals Middle - slow again, but breathing way better using inhaler. Unfortunately pulled my ITB or something on the way to 3, so the hills after that were painful. Made a silly mistake on about 5, where the stream appeared to continue above where it actually finished.

Friday Apr 10, 2009 #

Orienteering 19:45 [3]

Nationals Sprint - not too many mistakes, but nothing really clean either. Too slow and having problems breathing, which was a pain.

Monday Apr 6, 2009 #

Long Run 42:00 [3]

With Lizzie round the Botanic Gardens after a very long day at school. Got dark very early, as expected I suppose, but under the trees it was dark enough that I wouldn't have gone there if I was by myself. Feeling better than yesterday.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]

Putting out controls for the event in South Wellington. They were mostly white/yellow level, but the planner insisted on checking all my control placements... Sat around for hours afterwards in the wind and just about got hypothermia - took hours after that to warm up again. Who would have thought that would happen in suburban Wellington. Also feeling a bit dead after yesterday.

Orienteering 4:00:00 [3]

A bit of an estimate on the time - we were out in the forest for nearly five hours, at least half an hour of which was waiting for Todd to change his shoes (one shoe change, that is). Put out toilet paper for control picking, then did Sarah's simplification exercise, then Todd's tennis match, but Sarah and I skipped Lizzie's long legs, as the lack of lunch was getting to us. Had to run 15mins in to the map, then 30mins back from the far end (Osgiliath from teh north end of Waitarere). Navigation was good, just still haven't got enough fitness back to be able to run at the speed I would like. Forest marathon was on, so on the way in we ran against hundreds of walkers finishing.

Friday Apr 3, 2009 #

Bike 50:00 [3]

Up over Mt Vic and round Oriental Parade then back over the hill. A bit short on time.

Thursday Apr 2, 2009 #

Bike 1:18:00 [3]

Island Bay, coast round the Miramar Peninsula, and back through Haitaitai. Good ride, and a nice morning for it.

Wednesday Apr 1, 2009 #

Long Run 43:00 [3]

Run with Lizzie from the carpark in Churton Park, up the hill and along the tops, then back down via a bit of bush close to Wilton's Bush (I could be wrong...). Really windy but a cool run.
