Long Run 53:00 [3]

With Magnus and Lizzie (also with Sarah, whose house it was from, but she bailed after 5 minutes to go to a quiz night - slacker...). Up the long track from Sarah's to the sanctuary fence and along and down the shorter track.

Thursday Jul 30, 2009 #

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 30:00 [3]

4-4 draw against some team that actually wore shinpads - kind of unnecessary when the ball is soft... Achilles is a bit sore, and was yesterday too, which is annoying coming up to the Winter Classic, so hopefully it goes away by Sunday.

Wednesday Jul 29, 2009 #

Long Run 25:00 [3]

12 warm up to Khandallah Park, 13 warm down back.

Intervals (Hilly) 11:05 [3]

8x hill sprints with 60s jogging returns: 26, 28, 22, 27, 26, 27, 25, 26. Was short on time, which is why they were quite short intervals, and I didn't seem to be able to give them as much energy as I was planning on, which was a bit disappointing - I somehow lost motivation (apart from the 22s one, when there were people walking past, which is probably saying something...).

Tuesday Jul 28, 2009 #

Bike 1:05:00 [3]

Ohariu Valley for 30mins from Gurkha Crs then turned around and came back. Feeling quite good.

Monday Jul 27, 2009 #

Long Run 58:00 [3]

Night run with Lizzie, Sarah, Jamie, Laura, John, Ramash, and Michael Wood. From Jamie and Penny's down to the waterfront and along towards Kilbirnie, then up onto Mt Vic by the tunnel and back along the side until we decided to go to the top - another "bonus hill"... Remembered to use my inhaler and felt way better for it - I think my lungs have been effecting me more than I've realised.

Walk 50:00 [3]

Up Mt Kaukau with Bev - I was sick of studying and looking for a good procrastination tool...

Sunday Jul 26, 2009 #

Long Run 1:31:00 [3]

With Sarah, Magnus, and Lisa. From the bottom of the walkway in Eastbourne to the Bus Barn, then up the track and over the top to Butterfly Creek, then along and climbed over the tree and broken bridge where the track was closed, back up onto the top, then Sarah and Lisa(both of whom had lung snot...) went back down to the car and Magnus and I continued on along the possum track and down into Days Bay. An awesome run - great weather and a really nice track with heaps of native bush. Lung causing a few problems though, and I died a bit on the hills.

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 30:00 [3]

A bit tired after this morning, but I scored a goal and it was fun:)

Saturday Jul 25, 2009 #

Bike 1:52:00 [3]

Gurkha Crs to Ohariu Valley, then decided to just keep going and see how long the loop to Makara and back past the cemetery into Karori and back to Khandallah took. Answer: probably slightly shorter than an hour 52, because I didn't know where I was going - I was a bit scared that I'd still be out there with the massive climb back into Karori still to go after two hours. I can see why most people do that loop in the other direction.

Friday Jul 24, 2009 #

Long Run 44:00 [3]

Lizzie was back in the country, so Sarah, Magnus and I heard lots of amusing stories about the trip on our run. Sarah's place, up the track to the sanctuary fence, then along and down into Kelburn? where Lizzie's car was still parked from uni and drove back to Sarah's. Still never run near the sanctuary in the daytime!

Thursday Jul 23, 2009 #

Long Run 48:00 [3]

Torrential downpour in Whitby with Hayley - we had to stick to the footpaths because everywhere else was deep mud, and even then we were mostly running in 2-20cm of water, with raging streams beside us and sometimes crossing our path. Got completely drenched and couldn't see for the first part because the rain was being blown straight into our eyes. On the upside, it was fun, and we found $80, so we got Indian takeaways for tea afterwards:)

Wednesday Jul 22, 2009 #

Long Run 40:00 [3]

From the hospital up Mt Vic and pretty much straight back so I wasn't too late for my meeting. Really nice day for it and heaps of runners around.

Tuesday Jul 21, 2009 #

Long Run 40:00 [3]

After a long day of class, so cut short a bit by the darkness - I took my headlamp for the bit I did in the bush but I wasn't keen to make it too long. Gurkha Crs to Khandallah Park, middle track and over towards Lizzie's then up to the track that comes down from the top, then down past Lizzie's and back via the road past the station and round to the bottom of the gully and back via the front roads. Legs felt pretty fatigued after yesterday.

Monday Jul 20, 2009 #

Bike 1:12:00 [3]

Gurkha Crs along the main road, detour into Crofton Downs and up to check out Magnus and Lisa's new section, then up again to the Skyline walkway carpark, then back down the hill and kept going to the intersection that takes you up to Karori or down to town, then back and through Khandallah village and the front roads home. Feeling tired after the weekend, but also a bit lazy - didn't do as much running as I though I was going to.

Walk 50:00 [3]

Up and down Mt Kaukau the usual way with Bev - anything to distract me from the study I should be doing...

Long Run 1:05:00 [3]

Night run from the Brooklyn windmill along the Karori sanctuary fence, then Carparts mountainbike track, then back along the fence for some "bonus hills", and back down the track to Sarah's. With Sarah, Magnus, Jamie B-W, Hamish, and Lisa (as far as the car again, where she cut off).

Sunday Jul 19, 2009 #

Orienteering 52:52 [3]

Senior Girls course this time, which was fun - quite a few of the same controls, but they seemed to be just as tricky the second time around. Felt a bit tired after a long weekend of organising.

Saturday Jul 18, 2009 #

Note

Can you count standing up for 6 hours organising the relays as training? Started at 8am, discovered at 9 (after writing out all the certificates from the day before) that no one had organised the relay bibs into school lots, and that there were teams missing from the start list, then got swamped by coaches trying to get their bibs -the most stressful few hours I've had for a while! Then lots of marshalling and map collecting and then prizegiving and packing up...

Friday Jul 17, 2009 #

Orienteering 1:09:00 [3]

Senior Boys course - all by myself in the forest after checking controls and then marshalling finishers for 4 hours - until the end, that is, when I came across Mick filming Angela redoing the last part of her course. Long day.

Orienteering 20:00 [3]

Checking controls with Kyle near roads and motorbike tracks - mostly from the car, but a bit of running as well.

Thursday Jul 16, 2009 #

Note

Was planning to do something, but by the time I finished class and packed we had to leave to go up to Pukepuke for the orienteering.

Wednesday Jul 15, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Class pretty much stole the whole day.

Tuesday Jul 14, 2009 #

Long Run 1:12:00 [3]

Gurkha Crs, Over Mt Kaukau, not down the track to Lizzie's, but with the extra little loop, and back via the front roads. Freezing cold, raining, windy, and getting dark - glad I had my headlamp. Didn't see anyone except a rabbit til I was almost back at the bottom. Quite fun though, once I warmed up.

Monday Jul 13, 2009 #

Long Run 45:00 [3]

Fairly gentle night run from my place over to and around the lower tracks on Mt Kaukau with Magnus, Lisa, Tineke, Jamie B-W, and Hamish. Sarah was sick, so stayed home and cooked our spaghetti, Rob turned up for tea, and Jamie and Casper for dessert (pancake cake - the best dessert ever:)).

Walk 1:00:00 [3]

Over Mt Kaukau with Mum, Dad and Georgia - horribly slippery.

Sunday Jul 12, 2009 #

Orienteering 1:16:00 [3]

O at Aotea/Papakowhai. It was mostly street/park running, with some nice slippery wooden walkways thrown in...disappointed that I couldn't even get to 10min/km on that - I don't know whats wrong with me, but I felt really tired and couldn't seem to get to any kind of speed. Also not used to controls being hidden (I assume so as not to be found by locals)...

Saturday Jul 11, 2009 #

Long Run 1:12:00 [3]

Mt Kaukau with all the usual loops. Felt good, probably because I haven't run properly all week...

Friday Jul 10, 2009 #

Bike 1:07:00 [3]

Too and from Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua, just to see how far it was (30mins there and 37 back, which included a detour down an "alternative route south" that was badly signposted and dumped you in the suburbs of Tawa). Otherwise a good ride.

Thursday Jul 9, 2009 #

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 30:00 [3]

Lost 15-12, but it was fun and I scored a few goals.

Wednesday Jul 8, 2009 #

Bike 1:32:00 [3]

Biked to (40mins) and from (52mins) uni in town, which was good, but coming back was pretty exhausting going up the hill, as for some reason I wasn't feeling too great by then.

Tuesday Jul 7, 2009 #

Walk 40:00 [3]

With Mum at Titahi Bay - first part of my run with Hayley a while ago.

Monday Jul 6, 2009 #

Long Run 40:00 [3]

Tinakori Hill at night with Magnus, Lizzie, Claire, and Penny for part of it. No idea where we went really, apart from close to some of the controls from last Sunday. Breathing was horrible and wheezy.

Walk 1:00:00 [3]

Up Mt Kaukau with Mum, Bev, and Claire. Breathing really bad - don't know whats going on there.

Sunday Jul 5, 2009 #

Bike (Mountain Bike) 2:01:00 [3] 37.0 km (3:16 / km)

With Sarah, Wayne, Silvano, and Donato in the hills behind Nelson. From the Gray's place up the Maitai Valley up to the reservoir, then up to the caretaker's hut, then up a bit further to an intersection, followed by a 10km downhill and back to the Gray's. First time I've ever been mountain biking properly, and it was heaps of fun. Used Sarah's Mum's bike.

Saturday Jul 4, 2009 #

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

Coaching and putting out toilet paper controls in Nelson on Rabbit Island with Sarah. Did verbalisation, attackpoints and aiming off/compass exercises, then organised a tennis match and a star relay, then did some verbalisation with a group. 25 enthusiastic participants, which was really good - flew to Nelson in the morning, stright out to the map and didn't leave til 4pm.

Friday Jul 3, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Felling really tired, as for the last few days, so had a day off.

Thursday Jul 2, 2009 #

Bike 1:05:00 [3]

From Gurkha Crs through Johnsonville via Bannister and Cortina Rds, out into the Ohariu Valley as far as the intersection, then mucked around a bit when the road I wazs going to go down had road works, so I went towards Makara for another 10 mins, then back the same way.

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 30:00 [3]

Lizzie and I were the ring-ins for my brother's team, and we scored most of the goals (which, as a bonus, were worth 2 points for girls). I haven't played soccer since high school and it was pretty fun.

Wednesday Jul 1, 2009 #

Bike 49:00 [3]

Ohariu Valley through the J'ville roundabouts on the way there, then the back way via Cortina and Bannister Rds on the way back. Limited time, so I had to turn back at the main intersection, which was 20 mins in (mostly downhill out, uphill coming back).
