7 PM

Other Sport (Yoga) 50:00 [3]

Body Balance with Sarah at Les Mills, followed by excellent hot chocolate.

Monday Mar 29, 2010 #

3 PM

Tempo run 33:00 [3]

9mins at tempo pace, 3 easy, 9, 3, 9 around Mt Albert tracks - lovely day for it, new inov8s felt really good.

Long Run 20:00 [3]

Warm up and down, to and from Mt Albert and up the hill and around the zoo a bit.
7 PM

Long Run 40:00 [3]

Casual run around on Tinakori Hill from Hamish's place, not too hard because a few people were tired from the weekend.

Sunday Mar 28, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Too busy playing with my friend's just 2 year old niece and travelling back to Wellington.

Saturday Mar 27, 2010 #

3 PM

Intervals 23:00 [3]

5 mins at tempo pace (1.53/400m) then 20s rest then 1,2,3,1,2,3 mins at interval pace (1.44/400m) with jogging rests of half the length of time of the previous interval. At Cooks Gardens in Wanganui - I was the only person on teh track for most of the time, but had a bit of an audience at the beginning of some people packing up from a barbeque. Had a bit of trouble keeping up to the paces as it was sindy and I was tired, but I pretty muc got there.

Long Run 20:00 [3]

Warm up and down at the track.

Friday Mar 26, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Busy day and one of my friends from Dunedin is up for the weekend.

Orienteering 3:00:00 [3]

Don't know if rogaining actually counts as orienteering, it was more like grid-searching when the circles weren't quite in the right place (only happened a few times though). With Magnus and some guy called Simon. I think we came third - did a loop from Rongotai College down around the South Coast, up the green belt then along through Kilbirnie to the far side of the airport and back through the underpass, which I didn't know existed until then. Running the whole time - I was a bit tired after spin last night but luckily Magnus and Simon were well prepared with lollies!

Wednesday Mar 24, 2010 #

7 PM

Other Sport (Exercical) 1:00:00 [3]

Spin class at the gym in Porirua with Todd and Hayley - we happened upon the hardest class they had, which was also the first time they had made it even harder, so it was pretty intense. And the room was dark and had a blacklight, which made it all the more exciting. Pretty fun way to spend an hour.

Tuesday Mar 23, 2010 #

12 PM

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Question making for the rogaine thing for Michael - out in Whitby/Papakowhai and involved lots of driving, so I've estimated the time I was actually doing stuff as about an hour, pretty low intensity. In the middle of the day between lectures (conveniently spaced to finish at 10am and start again at 3pm, haha). New Inov8s arrived and I wore them to break them in - exciting!
7 PM

Other Sport (Yoga) 50:00 [3]

Bodybalance at Les Mills with Sarah - cooked the fastest Spaghetti Bolognaise Ever (7mins) before going, so it was a nice relaxing session. SOme bits were pretty hard work though, especially the ab stuff.

Monday Mar 22, 2010 #

7 PM

Long Run 50:00 [3]

Run with Magnus, Lisa, Lizzie, Hamish, and Jamie B-W from the west end of Karori up Wright's Hill, past the guns and parade ground, and down Deliverance Track. Cool place to run - I've never been there before. Pretty windy and a bit cold (first time I've worn a running jacket this year), and getting dark at the end, so hard to see in the bush.

Sunday Mar 21, 2010 #

11 AM

Orienteering 1:26:00 [3]

On Ratapihipihi in Taranaki. Got a bit confused on the way to 1 with some interesting mapping, then lost a bit of motivation to run fast on the way to 3, which persisted for a while - I just couldn't seem to make myself go fast for some reason. Improved towards the end, but by then we had had quite a few long legs where if you had the speed you could see exactly where to go (like any farmland map...). Had fun towards the end in the native forest, even though I got totally confused on one of the controls.

Saturday Mar 20, 2010 #

3 PM

Orienteering 57:00 [3]

Te Henui in Taranaki. Sprint then a map change and you ahd the rest of the hour to do a score event. I did 14.44 for the sprint but had forgotten to start my watch, so had to estimate, which luckily I did fairly accurately. Realised part way round my origianl route that I wasn't going to get there, so changed and ended up getting one less control then I would have if I'd made that choice to begin with. Overall pretty pleased with my run, especially in the sprint part round the cemetary.

Friday Mar 19, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

School then driving to Wanganui. I think my leg needed a break as it has been playing up a bit recently.

Thursday Mar 18, 2010 #

6 PM

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Intervals on Tinakori Hill set by Magnus. Five sets of two controls which we raced around in the opposite direction to our partner (I was with Penny). Cool except that the mapping/intensity of the green mean we couldn't go as hard as maybe otherwise. Also felt horrible because I had my lung test this morning and had to breathe heaps of saline mist.
8 PM

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 30:00 [3]

Couldn't seem to get it together and lost about 14-7 - I don't think we are used to playing again girls who can actually kick the ball. I suppose thats what happens when you move up a grade...

Wednesday Mar 17, 2010 #

5 PM

Orienteering 32:00 [3]

Afterwork O at Churton Park - would have waved to Lisa doing parent-teacher interviews, but the school was out of bounds for some reason. Ended up involving a lot of street running and I wasn't going too fast after the weekend and yesterday.

Tuesday Mar 16, 2010 #

6 PM

Bike 43:00 [3]

Needed to get out and do something after 8 hours straight of tutes - don't know how they expect us to take anything in after the first 2 hours... Down Adelaide Rd to Island Bay, round to Red Rocks and back, then up Happy Valley Rd to Brooklyn (almost fell off at the trafffic lights when my chain jumped off, but managed to save myself), then down Bidwell St and back to Berhampore. Lower back a bit sore from sitting all day twisted sideways (really badly set up tute room...).

Monday Mar 15, 2010 #

6 PM

Long Run 30:00 [3]

Run from Magnus and Lisa's around some little hilly tracks before yoga.
7 PM

Other Sport (Yoga) 1:15:00 [3]

Yoga led by PC at Magnus and Lisa's. Must have looked pretty funny to the neighbours, as most of the gang were there and we filled up the whole lounge/dining area... Cool, and pretty intense - holding some of the poses was hard work!

Sunday Mar 14, 2010 #

11 AM

Orienteering 43:39 [3]

Katoa Po post event at Whakaipo Bay. Cool course - managed to hang onto the others after the mass start until the long leg, then got dropped a bit, but did pretty well in the last forest block apart from one control. Felt pretty tired after last night.
11 PM

Orienteering 1:08:00 [3]

Katoa Po - discovered I need to put new batteries in my headlamp - it would have made life a lot easier. Got mass started cos our team was a bit of a make up one and a few of the earlier runners took forever. Was pretty slow and cautious.

Saturday Mar 13, 2010 #

2 PM

Orienteering 33:19 [3]

Katoa Po pre event. Caught Ross on the way to 1, which was fairly surprising, then we both screwed 2 up quite badly, and I lost heaps of time trying to get across the gully to 4 (blackberry=evil), but other than that had a reasonable run.

Thursday Mar 11, 2010 #

6 PM

Intervals 34:00 [5]

At 100s per 400m/50s per 200m pace: 60s, 90s, 120s, 180s, 240s, 180s, 120s, 90s,60s, 240s with each rest half the length of the previous interval - very intense! The three minute interval at the end was pretty hard work. Fun though, and not many people around because it had been raining.

Long Run 20:00 [3]

Warm up and down - my place to the track and back, plus a few laps. With Lizzie (as were the intervals). Hamstrings a bit tight on the warm down.
7 PM

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 53:00 [5]

Two games of indoor - our one, about 20 mins after finishing intervals, then the game after because they needed another girl, so Lizzie and I stayed to go halves, but then their girl got injured so we both ended up playing, and both games were really intense, and I was hungry by the end of the first one...intense day...

Wednesday Mar 10, 2010 #

6 PM

Orienteering 32:44 [3]

Silverstream afterwork O. Glad I was already in Upper Hutt for class because it totally wasn't worth it otherwise - fairly unexciting, very easy course, even for an "introductory" one. Running a bit easy after yesterday. Definitely need a bike day soon.

Tuesday Mar 9, 2010 #

Long Run 15:00 [3]

Warm up, with Jamie a bit before his showdown with Todd, warm down with Todd after his tactics were slightly less than successfull...

Bike 20:00 [3]

To and from the race. To is easy, as its all down hill, back is harder, both because of having just raced, and because of the constant uphill.
6 PM

Time Trial (5 Km) 21:38 [3] 5.0 km (4:20 / km)

Decided about lunch time that I would do the waterfront 5k race again - kind of wanted to get an accurate time after last time with the distance problem. Felt much more prepared this time and didn't give myself ischaemic gut... Di ge the sticth a bit at about the 3km mark, but got through it pretty quickly. On the whole I was really pleased - got my best time ever. I think I might have even been able to go faster if there had been someone to sprint off at the end:)

Monday Mar 8, 2010 #

Long Run 50:00 [3]

Run from the botanics up Tinakori Hill, over the back and round the side. Losing people left right and centre along the way - Magnus and Lizzie about halfway to run home, Jamie B-W a few minutes later, and Hamish a few hundred meters before the end when we went straight past his house. Only Paul and I got to the end. Nice easy pace, which was a bit surprising given that Lizzie and I were the only girls.

Sunday Mar 7, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Coaching on Pukepuke, then collecting the 6 furthest away controls (mostly because I was out there already), but I hadn't been to them all yet, so got some navigation practise at speed in.

Long Run 30:00 [3]

Into the forest, having a chat with Jaime G, then out of the forest.

Saturday Mar 6, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Into Pukepuke, put out 6 controls (I got the closest ones) then back out again. Not feeling too alive at the beginning after our flatwarming last night. Beautiful forest soon woke me up though.

Friday Mar 5, 2010 #

Orienteering 27:00 [3]

Afterwork O at ONslow. Wicked course set by Nick Hann, just a shame they let the first 5 of us start before he'd finished putting out the controls, so we had to wait at a few of them, which was annoying. Good use of the map - a bit of a cross between a really technical sprint and a middle - had to think a lot on almost every leg.

Thursday Mar 4, 2010 #

6 PM

Long Run 20:00 [3]

Warm up and down (up on the hilly route round the track and zoo with the others, carrying my drinkbottle cos I was slightly late, and feeling like a gump, down barefoot on the grass, then home).

Intervals 27:00 [3]

6x 3 mins on, 1.5mins off at the track at 1.44 400m pace. Around the same as Sarah, Jula, and Penny, but never quite the same. Way harder with such short rests, and they were jogging as I had to get back to the start line. Took a few to get used to the right pace, but then got it sorted. I love intervals:)
8 PM

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 30:00 [3]

We won again - closer this time though, and I didn't score any goals. Leith was filling in for Tane and proved to be surprisingly good, which was handy.

Wednesday Mar 3, 2010 #

5 PM

Orienteering 39:57 [3]

Afterwork orienteering from Newlands College - lost 5 mins on a bad route choice (I was going to go the good way, but thought I couldn't get through a massive field of gorse to get there, which apparently you could). Nice run at a faster pace, especially after a long day doing the interview for my long psychiatric case!

Tuesday Mar 2, 2010 #

5 PM

Long Run 31:00 [3]

Opposite direction of my last short run, so: over to the track, round the zoo, up Mt Albert, and back along the hockey side of the hill and past the basketball courts. Had that awkward situation where you come across someone running the same direction and same pace as you - I made polite conversation, then ended up just running along silently together...I was once again amused at the shopping trolley at the top of Mt Albert - it must have been a determined effort to get it there!

Monday Mar 1, 2010 #

6 PM

Long Run 50:00 [3]

I might have the time wrong - we started at 6.40, but I forgot to check my watch when we got back, so feel free to correct me. Run from Sarah's up a new track past some clowns, then back down past the clowns again, and up another track to the edge of the sanctuary and a nice way back down that had cool views out over the harbour. Past the clowns again, who were now doing a show of some kind. Heaps of the gang turned up - Sarah, Lizzie, Todd, Magnus, Lisa, Laura, John, Paul J, Hamish, and Bryn and Piret for dinner. The run was supposed to be recovery, but we were pushing pretty hard up some of the hills at times (or the person in the lead was, and we all followed...).
