Jog to Te Awanga surf beach and back in the darkness with Simon. Not too bad a run - no shoulder pain or tiredness, perfect temperature for not inducing cast-sweat...

The beginnings of my epic gym session. Cadence 90-100, at level 4 resistance. Annoying seat that I kept sliding forwards off, but there was music and soccer to watch so I wasn't too upset.

This was actually a 10 on one machine, which started squeaking, then 20 on another one. Stride length on these things is way too short...

Warm down on the bike again. Felt quite good towards the end of this session, and am actually looking forward to going back. Don't know if this was because the 30bike/30 cross trainer was actually too easy (was supposed to be subthreshold, don't know if I really got there because I couldn't seem to get my heart rate over 150), or if it was just that I haven't done anything even vaguely this long for a while.

Run from Haumoana along the track to the start of the domain in Te Awanga and back. Shoulders both a bit sore by the end - the right one from 4 hours of one handed driving yesterday... First day of my last three months of med school - the end is near:)

Same as yesterday, two minutes faster - I must be getting fit! Was mildly worried by the fact it started trying to rain a few times...

Got a few pretty funny looks on this run. Just went up through the school, round the lake twice (top track, middle track), and home. Discovered that the effort of putting in contacts one handed would have been worth it to be able to see better and not have to be so careful about tripping over, but other than that a good run. Left shoulder mildly sore by the end from holding the cast up.

Bike at the physio gym again - level 5 at just under 90rpm. So hot in there! Felt so good though.

Elliptical trainer at the end. Not too jarring, so maybe see how running goes soon:) Followed by good stretching.

First real exercise, apart from walking, for a while... At the physio gym after getting my new cast - it was really hot in there, which was not ideal. Just went constant on power 5. Good stretching session afterwards, but somewhat hampered by my inability to grip anything.

Still sore. At least its the left one I suppose. Wondering if they might let me do Tough Guy on the 20th with my arm in plaster, or if I could get a waterproof one so I can still do some running, because its driving me nuts not being able to do anything and its only been two days...

Very bad news: woke up at 5am with an extremely painful, swollen wrist that I couldn't move at all, spent the morning getting it xrayed and now I get probably 6 weeks in plaster with a broken scaphoid. What fun. Plaster of paris backslab for 10 days, which I can't run with at all because it will melt if I sweat too much, re-xray and proper cast in 10 days - unless the fracture has magically disappeared, which is what I'm hoping for...

Hills run with Harriers. Felt tired but somehow it felt easier this time, but still struggled on the last hill. Did well on the other hills though.

Other Sport (Indoor netball) 30:00 [3]

Won 44-22! Played 3/4 at centre, straight from running, so was pretty exhausted! Managed to fall over and land pretty hard on my left wrist, which is now really sore, but hopefully thats temporary...

Orienteering 3:15:00 [3]

Rogaine at Kereru Station. Dragged Simon along and we won, so that was pretty good. Tried to get all four 150 point controls, which would have been fine if we hadn't mucked up 23 and lost about 5 mins there, then lost a bit of time in the river getting 9, 12, 7, 13 and 17. Finally got to 28 with 4 mins to go, so I knew we would be late, but unfortunately had to run straight past 2, 5, and 3 on the way back. It was 10 points per minute back late so lost all the points we got for 28. Managed to get electrocuted a few times, which was annoying, and kicked something right near the end which has bruised the whole top of my foot.

10 min warm up, 10 warm down - from the Tauroa Rd end to near the lookout on the way to the redwoods. Really wasn't feeling it today.

From near the lookout, through the redwoods, up the goat track to the Peak, down the mountain bike track, through the redwoods, and along the higher track back towards the lookout. Wasn't really feeling motivated today - seeing a patient I was friends with as a kid who now has major psych problems made the day a pretty tough one. In some ways this was good as I think I managed to get the pace about right - fastish but not pushing too hard. Felt way better once I'd finished though.

Down the beach to the surf beach and back along the cycle track with Simon again. Less hard work on the beach this time because the tide was lower, but felt tireder than last time, but then it turns out yesterdays run was probably a bit faster than I should have done, and I've still got a bit of a cold that won't go away.

10 mins warm up from Helen's through the trees to the start of the bridge lead-up. 13 mins warm down from halfway across the bridge round through the mud flats and across the close bridge back to Helen's.

Tempo run 40:07 [3]

Two and a bit laps of Pandora Pond, total of just under 8km I think. Started at the bridge leadup, so ran across the bridge, mudflats, close bridge, past Helen's, and then through the trees to the bridge again. Laps of 19.14, 19.10, then 1.42 extra, which got me almost halfway across the bridge (its really long). Felt a bit tired to start off with, but once I got into a rhythm it was better. Sunny warm day for it too.

Run to the surf beach in Te Awanga and back with my flatmate Simon. Ran along the beach dodging the waves most of the way there, which was hard work, but I had to test him out to see if I will beat him in tough guy, and therefore how much to bet on me winning (so far we are at a snowboarding lesson if I win and KFC and beer if he wins...). I'm not overly hopeful given that he has that annoying natural fitness that most guys seem to have, despite his choice of post-run drinks, but you never know...
