Note
(rest day)

Dad's cousins' unveiling:( Even sadder when two of them are at the same time.

Monday Jan 30, 2012 #

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 40:00 [3]

Our team vs our other team:) My side won 19-11.

Sunday Jan 29, 2012 #

Long Run 1:15:00 [3]

Cold and rainy - how did that happen? From home, up Milton Rd, left and over to Sturm's Gully/Bluff Hill lookout and did that little loop twice, then over past Rita's to NGHS, then back over and along Napier Tce to the Botanic Gardens (will have to explore them some time), then just back along Napier Tce and down Milton Rd back home. Started off a bit cold but then got into a steady but not overly fast pace and really enjoyed it - I don't think I've been for a decent run for a while and won't get to over the weekend because of work:( Not as sore as I expected to be from kayaking either.

5 PM

Long Run 12:00 [3]

6 mins warm up, 6 mins warm down - not ideal, but had to squeeze this in between work and my flatmate's birthday drinks. Really hot!

Intervals 10:00 [3]

4x 75s flat intervals at Alexandra Park. Hard work, especially the last 20s of each. Recoveries were 75-90s each time. Tried to focus on running form during them as well.
8 PM

Other Sport 55:00 [3]

Kayaking on Pandora Pond with Rory. There were heaps of fish jumping, which was cool - the combination of highish tide and dusk probably meant there were quite a few around. Paddled over to the far side and around the shoreline a bit, then coming back was quite hard because of the end of the tide coming in and the wind direction. Water was really warm because its quite shallow and had had the sun shining on it all day.

Long Run 20:00 [3]

From home to the pond and back, with Chris. Beautiful sunshine. Raced back home, which made me realise I should probably have done intervals today, but had fallen asleep on the couch when I got home from work and only managed to drag myself out at the offer of a swim.

Swimming 10:00 [3]

From the edge of the pond to the spit. I suck at swimming, but felt significantly safer knowing that I was swimming with a lifeguard...even though he did spend most of the time laughing at my gammy swimming...

Tuesday Jan 24, 2012 #

Other Sport (Indoor netball) 40:00 [3]

Won 31-15, which was an appropriate scoreline since it was my birthday;) Followed by amazing dinner and cake.

Monday Jan 23, 2012 #

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 1:20:00 [3]

Two games of soccer - won the first one 22-19, lost the second one to the Angry Birds 30-22, which was disappointing because it was only because it was our second game and we beat them last time.

Sunday Jan 22, 2012 #

Walk 1:00:00 [3]

Was actually 1.30, but logging that much feels like cheating. Up Te Mata Peak with my brother, and down the goat track, post birthday party.

Saturday Jan 21, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Day used up by a four hour lunch at Blackbarn and my and my flatmates combined birthday/flatwarming. The perils of living in Hawkes Bay.

Friday Jan 20, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Just didn't happen, which was a bit lame.

Thursday Jan 19, 2012 #

Intervals 31:00 [3]

30x 30s intervals. Undulating around the lower parts of Te Mata Peak, managed to escape during the day for a while before long day again.

Long Run 30:00 [3]

Warm up 10mins, warm down 20mins at Te Mata Peak - nice day and I had the time, so had a good warm down and then stretching.

Wednesday Jan 18, 2012 #

Bike 1:40:00 [3]

A whole day off! So went for a ride from home out along Prebensen Drive, round the back of Park Island, and up to Poriati, where I explored most of the dead end roads. Pretty hot, fairly low intensity, as I had to stop a few times to get stones off my tires - the tar was all melting and sticky. Came back via the supermarket.

Tuesday Jan 17, 2012 #

Long Run 50:00 [3]

Escaped from work at 9am by virtue of having no patients until next Tuesday, so ran from home up around the expensive parts of Bluff Hill, found Sturm's Valley, back to the top again, then down and back up the steps on Shakespeare Rd and around and down Milton Rd. Got relatively lost a few times, feeling right hamstring and achilles a little bit towards the end. Only bad bit about today was having to go back to work at 4pm for the 4-11pm bit:(

Monday Jan 16, 2012 #

Bike 30:00 [3]

Seems ridiculous to log this as four separate rides, so: from my place to soccer, soccer to Helen's, Helen's back to soccer, then home from soccer with my bike and Rory's - quite challenging, especially cornering on the way home, so that trip took about twice as long as usual, but the first three trips were at quite a good pace.
7 PM

Other Sport (Indoor soccer) 35:00 [3]

Game one: won 30-6, played most of the game - only one sub. Fun times.
9 PM

Other Sport (Indoor soccer) 35:00 [3]

Game two: post lasagne, and we got smashed 32-7. Fun game though, up until Rory tore his calf muscle right near the end.

Sunday Jan 15, 2012 #

Walk 4:00:00 [3]

From Panekire Hut down the bluff to Waiopaoa Hut, stopped for a few minutes, then on to Korokoro. Swim in the "refreshing" lake and lunch, then up to the falls and back. Water taxi back to Onepoto:)

Saturday Jan 14, 2012 #

Walk 4:00:00 [3]

Waikaremoana! From Onepoto up the bluff to Panekire Hut. Pretty windy but awesome views:)

Friday Jan 13, 2012 #

Bike 42:00 [3]

Bike to work. Faster than I thought, so got there a bit early. Not too much traffic at 6.30am on the expressway...

Bike 1:00:00 [3]

Bike home - Pakowhai Rd to Clive, then Marine Parade. More traffic, further, windier, and more fertiliser to inhale.

Thursday Jan 12, 2012 #

Note

Worked long day yesterday and was really tired today so no training (not so bad since I managed to sneak away for a run when it was quiet yesterday. So unless you count Jenga, nothing today.

Wednesday Jan 11, 2012 #

Long Run 40:00 [3]

Slower, less intense run around the lower parts of Te Mata Peak, with 10mins of stretching (not included in the time) in the middle, as right hamstring sore, and right achilles started hurting about 10 mins in.

Tuesday Jan 10, 2012 #

Other Sport (Indoor Netball) 40:00 [3]

Really hot and muggy, played the whole game at centre. Won 31-29 after a pretty intense game:)

Bike 40:00 [3]

Out to Bay View and back in the mid afternoon heat and humidity. New cycling top to try out...

Monday Jan 9, 2012 #

Other Sport (Indoor Soccer) 30:00 [3]

Two games, way too many subs so only played 3/4 in 80 mins. Won both games:)

Sunday Jan 8, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Heading back to Hawkes Bay.

Saturday Jan 7, 2012 #

Long Run 30:00 [3]

Run at Wilton Bush with Lizzie before Magnus and Lisa's wedding.

Thursday Jan 5, 2012 #

Long Run 32:00 [3]

Two laps of the lake again.

Wednesday Jan 4, 2012 #

Long Run 32:00 [3]

From home up to the lake, one lap of the top track, one middle track, then back through the school again. Feet feeling a bit tight, and arms a bit sore from golf - demonstrating my absolute lack of upper body strength.

Tuesday Jan 3, 2012 #

Other Sport (Golf) 2:30:00 [3]

At Waimarino golf course with Jamie, Lizzie, and Brent. Safest activity of the weekend:) I need to play more often...

Monday Jan 2, 2012 #

Long Run 4:20:00 [3]

O Gang Adventure 3: Running the first part of the Tongariro Crossing, climbing Mt Ngaurahoe, then back down the shingle and running back down the crossing track to the road end again. This time includes breaks, so I'm not sure what it actually was. Passed on the Mt Tongariro ascent as I was really tired from yesterday and my shoes were falling to pieces (had to re-tape them together twice already today). Sore right fifth metatarsal head, probably due to shoe destruction, but not keen to make it worse.

Sunday Jan 1, 2012 #

Long Run 6:07:32 [3]

O Gang Adventure 2: The Goat. Abandoned due to almost getting struck by lightening at 1 hour 10mins, turned back only to find that we were trapped between flash-flooded rivers. They had only taken 10 mins to go from knee-deep, easily crossable to chest-deep, completely uncrossable. Cue 2 hours spent shivering under survival blankets in the rain until the river went down enough to cross. Arrived at the road end just as SAR was about to tramp in to rescue us. Slightly more adventurous than planned...
