Orienteering 44:00 [4] 5.5 km (8:00 / km) +225m 6:38 / km

The weather was cold and rainy. The woods were thoroughly soaked, and so was I quickly after starting.

The course was an interesting training exercise put together by Western Connecticut OC. There were nine large circles drawn on the map, each with two controls inside. You had to go to each of the nine larger circles consecutively, but you could go to either of the two controls in the circle first. This was an interesting exercise since you always had a long leg and then a short leg.

I felt very good running in the rain. The woods were fairly thick in places, but nothing that was unpleasent. Much of the woods was fast open running, but I did not really run full speed. I did not make any big mistakes, but I was not very clean at all. I lost quite a bit of time because I was not executing my route choices cleanly and I zig-zagged too much. Since it was raining so hard I had to put my control card in my map case, so I lost about fifteen seconds at each control unfolding my map, punching, and folding it back up.

Overall my time seemed to be decent, but nothing terribly good. It felt good to be out on a map again and even if I wasn't in top shape I was happy with my run.
