Cross-Training (Volleyball) 2:00:00 [1]

Up at 6:30 for a volleyball tournament at Fairfield University in Connecticut. We played 4 games and it was pretty intense. We were all pretty exhausted by the time the fourth game came around.

Cross-Training (Basketball) 2:00:00 [2]

Got back from the volleyball tournament about 10 minutes before my intramural basketball game at 7. I hadn't really recovered at all and my legs were still very tired.

I played three games and played pretty hard in all of them even though I was exhausted. I was just in the zone and kept pushing hard even though my legs were beat. My quads started to hurt a bit in the third game which I imagine was due to the lactic acid buildup from being so active for so many hours. It was a pretty tough day, and my legs will definitely need a day or two off from running in order to recover.

Cross-Training (Standing Bike) 1:05:00 [1] 23.5 mi (2:46 / mi)
ahr:135

Spun the standing bike for an hour and then another 5 minutes while I was waiting for a treadmill to open up. My legs felt a little tired from yesterday's run, so I just set it to hold my HR at 135.

I wonder how to compare HR between biking and running. I feel like I am working a lot harder at a lower HR when on the bike. For example, it really starts to burn in the 140s, and that is such a low HR when running that I would barely be working. I have been logging the intensity of my bike workouts based on my HR as if it were a running workout, but I don't think that they are equivalent. I will have to see if I can figure out a new chart to define intensity based on HR when I am on the bike.

Stretching/Warmup (Stretching) 10:00 [1]

Did about 10 minutes of stretching while I was waiting for a treadmill to open up.

Treadmill 30:00 [2] 3.75 mi (8:00 / mi)
ahr:157 max:167 shoes: Asics GT-2100 (2006)

Ran for a half-hour after biking. I had considered going for an hour, but my legs were pretty heavy after the bike and I ran out of time anyway because I had to wait so long for a treadmill to open up.

Trail Run long 1:16:40 [1] 9.0 mi (8:31 / mi)
ahr:151 shoes: Asics GT-2100 (2006)

Drove out to coach's house with T-Mac and Caleb and then ran out to the course (2 miles) ran the course (5 miles) and then ran back. It was freezing cold and extremely windy. My legs felt great though.

Treadmill hills 1:00:00 [2] 7.6 mi (7:54 / mi)
ahr:162 max:177 shoes: Asics GT-2100 (2006)

Put the treadmill on the hill setting at 12 intensity for an hour. I ran at 7.5 mph for most of it, but upped it to 8.5 for about 10 minutes towards the end since it was feeling way too easy. I felt pretty awesome.

Road Run 25:07 [1] 3.25 mi (7:44 / mi)
ahr:150 max:168 shoes: Asics GT-2100 (2006)

Warm-up run to a nearby hill to do some hill intervals. I had to stop at Dunkin Donuts for a shit-and-run, so I missed the first interval. Feeling pretty good though and my foot didn't bother me a bit.

Interval Training intervals 10:52 [4]
ahr:164 max:179

Did some short intervals on a neary hill. It wasn't very steep, but it had a lip at the end that was really hard to get up. I missed the first interval with the guys, then ran 5 with them. I felt really good and had no problem staying out front with each one, but my lungs did feel like they were holding me back as my legs never really felt tired throughout the intervals. It could just be that I haven't done much running in the last week and so my legs are really fresh.

Anyway, here are my splits with average and max heart rate:

1.) 0:46 - 167 - 176
r.) 1:37 - 165 - 177
2.) 0:47 - 165 - 178
r.) 1:39 - 166 - 179
3.) 0:51 - 164 - 177
r.) 1:40 - 164 - 177
4.) 0:54 - 162 - 174
r.) 1:45 - 160 - 174
5.) 0:50 - 161 - 174

It's strange that my HR was so low for these intervals because I felt like I was pushing really hard. I really felt like I was up in the 180s, but I never broke 179... And the max of 174 at the end is really depressing. I'll have to figure out how to take better note of this when I am doing the actual intervals so that I can push harder.

Road Run 23:50 [2] 3.25 mi (7:20 / mi)
ahr:154 max:167 shoes: Asics GT-2100 (2006)

T-Mac and Steve picked up the pace a bit on the way back, and we were about a minute and a half faster than on the way out. It felt really fast though after running the intervals.

Cross-Training (Basketball) 40:00 [2]

I had an intramural basketball game at night. I played almost the whole game and felt great.
