Saturday Nov 25

Event: WCOC Ansonia Nature Center meet

Orienteering race 41:00 [4]6.2 km (6:37 / km) +175m 5:48 / km
spiked:11/13c slept:7.0 shoes: Integrators 2005
A nice course at Ansonia. Legs feeling great, but lungs already feeling out of shape. Couldn't push too hard anyway though because the terrain was so technical and the footing was tough. Was very solid technically. Only really lost about 30 seconds on the first one going up the wrong reentrant on the way there. Wasn't too bad though as I was able to correct before I got too far off the line.

A georgeous day for running.
Trail Run warm up/down 5:00 [1]
shoes: Integrators 2005
Trying to loosen up the legs again after a brief break.
Orienteering race (Sprint) 27:00 [4]*** 2.9 km (9:19 / km) +115m 7:46 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: Integrators 2005
A very tough and long "sprint". More like a nice middle. I was feeling pretty brain dead though so had a couple misses going into the control. Otherwise wasn't too bad though. Just not really there mentally enough to be aggressive.

Sunday Nov 19

Event: NEOC: Blue Hills Traverse

Orienteering race 1:58:22 [3]13.3 km (8:54 / km)
slept:5.0 shoes: Integrators 2005
Blue Hills Traverse! Not much of a field this year, but Ross and I made sure to keep it interesting anyway, bumbling around the first half of the course with a couple old guys constantly catching up to us. I felt particularly weak for some reason and that slowed me down quite a bit. There were times when I was having trouble running away from Ernst Linder. I know he's a rediculously fast old man, but somehow I think I should have been moving faster.

I had forgotten how bad the map is but I realized it again pretty quickly and slowed down a bit to be more careful too. Fortunately Ross was making a lot of mistakes because he kept running away from me, but I finally managed to lose him on one route choice towards the end and only saw him once on a dog-leg coming out of control 20 after that.

Anyway, it was a great course and a beautiful day. Can't beat that.
