Saturday Apr 7

Event: NEOC: Rocky Woods

Orienteering race 1:00:31 [4]7.25 km (8:21 / km)
slept:9.0 shoes: Integrators 2005
An awesome middle-distance style course at Rocky Woods. Definitely one of the nicest areas I have run in in the Boston area. It was quite technical, and the woods were just thick enough to make it tough but not annoying.

I had a decent race, although I didn't go into it focused enough to be really solid in my route choices in the beginning. It was great to run a course that really required full focus the entire time, and I felt like I was almost back in the groove. I need to run a couple more like this before the trials.

Friday Apr 6

Road Run long 58:54 [1]8.3 mi (7:06 / mi)
slept:0.0 shoes: Asics (02/07)
Nice and easy run through the bowels of Worcester. Felt great despite lack of sleep. It was cool to run through some new areas.

Wednesday Apr 4

Trail Run long 1:38:42 [2]12.3 mi (8:01 / mi)
slept:12.0 shoes: Asics (12/06)
A nice brisk run out at the rail trail in freezing rain. The trails were actually quite nice with a fresh, thin layer of icy snow and were only muddy in a few places. The freezing rain sucked though and had to be the worst conditions I have run all year.

Legs felt great again though. I hope this doesn't mean I am peaking early after all that rest last week...

On a side note, the terrain west of Route 31 is some of the nicest terrain I have seen in the whole Northeast. It is a fairly flat area with tons of little hills and depressions. There are quite a few trails running through the area, but they are more confusing than helpful in many cases. The woods are mostly open and runnable, although definitely a little slow. There are patches of mountain laurel, but not enough to make it one big fight. It could make for some really awesome middle distance terrain.

Tuesday Apr 3

Road Run warm up/down 18:31 [1]2.18 mi (8:30 / mi)
slept:6.5 shoes: Asics (02/07)
Easy warmup to the Holy Cross track. Feeling quite good.
Track tempo 35:29 [3]6.0 mi (5:54 / mi)
shoes: Asics (02/07)
Did Tom Cruise Intervals on the track: 6 mile repeats at 6 minute pace with just over a minute rest. Ended up doing all of them consistently at 5:55. Felt absolutely awesome as any good threshold workout should.

Road Run warm up/down 14:08 [1]2.18 mi (6:29 / mi)
shoes: Asics (02/07)
Easy jog back to campus. Feeling pretty awesome, although a little tired from the workout.

Monday Apr 2

Road Run long 1:13:22 [2]10.0 mi (7:20 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics (02/07)
A brisk morning run. Feeling much better. Almost regretting skipping yesterday's race, but still sure I made the right decision. It's more important to be able to train well right now then it was to race yesterday.

Sunday Apr 1

Trail Run 28:18 [1]
slept:10.0 (sick) (rest day) shoes: Integrators 2005
Still feeling really crappy so decided to skip the race today. Went for an easy jog around the event center instead.
