Orienteering (collecting) 1:00:00 [3]***
17c shoes: Integrator Silver Fox
Thankfully, the best was saved till last with some lovely terrain at Proklest. Parts of this were beautiful and I was pleased to be on a 1:15 map which seemed to reduce the info overload a bit. Enjoyed this, especially knowing I wouldn't have to hang any tricky controls soon! Well until I go to Norway that is... Ewan did a great job hanging on sites like tree in forest, group of trees in forest, 5cm wide/deep pit in overgrown flat forest, rootstock amongst fallen trees etc etc

A nice post run swim.

Event: MTB-O Championships

Orienteering (hanging/collecting) 30:00 [3]***

Bit of sprint hanging/collecting at a different part of Prostejov. Good fun sunning in the park watching everyone run round the wee control pick loop.

Collecting the middle session at Pteni. Thought this was the biggest grotfest yet with a lot of the veg really high/thick/minging.

Running 20:00 [3]
shoes: Integrator Silver Fox
Long run up to the start point of the Mrtvy Muz training with Oli. For a while we had thought it was going to be 500m climb so it was a relief to find it wasn't....

After getting into things nicely yesterday, things went a bit pear-shaped today. By an embarassing parallel error, found 10 before 9. This of course made finding 10 "interesting". Finally worked out what I had done. Oh how I laughed. Then made another parallel error to 11 and ended up in a vague hillside for ages. And then ran in the wrong direction to 12 and for a bit had absolutely no idea where I was. Absolutely no idea. Got it together after this.

It was a bit like that period at Lossie where I collected in the control I was supposed to leave out, left out the one I was supposed to collect and completely missed one altogether. It's not that it was particularly difficult and I wasn't going fast.

Nice rock formations though, like I was expecting from Czech.
Orienteering race (middle) 1:03:29 [5]***** 5.8 km (10:57 / km) +175m 9:31 / km

Finnish middle distance test race, Zd'arsky Potok.

This was a really tough rough race and totally different from the other (already quite diverse) terrain we had been on so far. And another foreign race, another last position for me. Which is pretty depressing, although small encouragement can be taken from that fact that most of my splits are not slowest, I just happened to have a couple of big mistakes, including one massive one on a tiny wee leg.

5 confused by vegetation, not confident about running on bearing, +1.5 mins.
9 risky route thru grot, bottled it after finding girls' control faffed about in nice white section for a bit +3mins
11 crap bearing ran to wrong clump of green +1min
14 hesitant in dodgy veg +1min
15 lazy lack of strategy - very short leg +6.5mins!

So 13 minutes lost. But that's still 11 minutes down on running time! Time for a new sport? Also now owe Dave P a beer.

Orienteering (collecting) 55:00 [3]***

More collecting for the middle distance posse on Helisova. The green and rough open were disgusting but the rest was lovely including a fabulous long leg through some white forest.
Swimming 20:00 [2]
Lazing about by the lake. Some good storm damage viewing on return.

Orienteering (Control Collecting) 1:20:00 [3]*****
19c shoes: Integrator Silver Fox
My first foray into Czech terrain at Boskovice. Thankfully we decided that the best way to do things would be for Ewan to hang and me to run round after everyone collecting. I pretended that I was actually hanging and took it steady and in control, trying to gain some confidence. Superficially, the terrain looks easy but the Czech mappers put the tiniest things on the map and that makes it really bl**dy hard. Also some really minging bits with lots of vegetation. Spent a long time at nasty number 11 but it transpired that Ewan had put it in the wrong place....

Hanging/collecting for the sprint training at Prostejov. Was nice to have nice definite features and be able to hang with confidence. Hot hot hot.
Orienteering race (star relay) 12:00 [4]
shoes: Merrells
A map memory star relay. I was the designated "girl" for the control hangers' team. I am a modern man, so was not offended. We took our rightful place, last, for most of the race (after all, we are not in the WOC squad), but then jumped up into 4th right at the end. Obviously we cheated.

Running 35:00 [3]
shoes: Innov8s
In a moment of weakness I had thought it would be a good idea to go to the middle of nowhere in the middle of eastern europe with a bunch of people I barely knew and have them all rely on me as I run around forests at and beyond my technical capability. As a holiday.

So I found myself running with the WOC team boys round the woods next to our accom at Suchy. Some bits were really nice. Thankfully I could keep up.
